R_P_R's Winter Advance Thread

Recommended Posts

This is where I will continue to post updates for the Fang's winter advance. Afterwards, I may move it to my painting arena for additional works as I begin to tackle over twenty additional terminators and grey hunters... Then I have the vehicles left... don't even get me started...

Here is my finished (minus the basing) Rune Priest Rhapsody:

The beginnings of the Howling Terror, Beothan Eruption(Grimnar counts as):

Now all you need to do is to magnetize all their arms....

I am not a fan of that blue, but they look very good. I really like your RPR's axe head on the staff.

I am not sure if you are being sarcastic or not, as I do magnetize all of my terminators arms.

I took an Ork axe blade and GS'ed it to one of the hammer sides of a thunder hammer (which I removed) and stuck the whole thing atop a standard bearers staff. Thanks!! :P

I love the now discontinued color Midnight Blue (which I recently found out is really close to the Necron Abyss foundation paint...) and decided a couple of years ago that I wanted to use that as my base color for my army. I mixed up a batch of my own color using Fortress Grey, Enchanted Blue, Skull White, and the remnants of a pot of Midnight Blue. They do look a lot less blue with out the camera flash lighting them up. But, I can deal with the pokes and jabs about the color, it's my army. Not yours. :)

Thanks for visiting, and have a nice day.

So I have linked this to the Librarium Painting Challenge as well, so as to minimize the confusion I will make clear at the beginning of each post what models belong to what vow.

Winter's Advance/Librarium Painting Challenge:

5 Power Armor Grey Hunters, one with a Plasma Gun (Sub Forum Challenge only)

5 TDAWG, One with SB/PF/CML

Rune Priest Rhapsody in TDA (Sub Forum Challenge only)

And here is the second TDAWG with Wolf Claw:

http://i899.photobucket.com/albums/ac194/Khyron666/DSC03471.jpg

I am finding my own style, f you will in washes and dry brushing. Things have been moving along quite well recently as I have hit my full stride. I see no reason all of the above listed models should not be complete by the end of February.

Whats this blackstuff you have your twc attached to currently? Foam, rubber, resin? looks interesting for larger bases... and where did you get it?

and your TWC are coming along... keep at it :(

Looks like two layers of cork sheeting primed black.

Wilfebane is correct. It's layed cork board that I bought at Michael's (an art supply chain here in the US) for super cheap. Once if based black and then you layer a couple coats of dry brushing, it looks convincingly like stone. I'm really enjoying it.

Thanks for the kind words Brother Mjollner

I have only just started using it a few months back. But it does harden up a bit (not to the point of being brittle) after it's painted and Dule Coted.

Here's my Lone Wolf WIP on the cork:

I will post pictures here as the TWC progress and you can see how it looks on the larger bases as well.

Here is another update for the LPC. This is the last TDAWG:

(the power sword is only there because I was using him last weekend, the finished model will still have the PF)

And for grins, here is my Lone Wolf. What battle hungry wolf bent on the destruction of his foes wouldn't be wearing corpse paint??

Years before I actually started to play 40K a good friend of mine offered to paint up a Rune Priest for me. He showed me the usual armor color for the time (baby space blue) and I didn't like it at all, and I still don't. I did however like Midnight Blue. So he painted the RP up with the Midnight Blue as the base armor color. Ever since then I wanted my army to have that deep blue color to them.

Thanks for the pose props!! It seems to be my strong point at this juncture in my modeling career.

"I am a male model, not a male prostitute!

Modeling just sucks -- they made me take off my top!

I'm not modeling anymore for the two of you!

Well I guess I just had my first taste of the filthy side of this business."

EDIT: Here is the super awesome Logan Grimnar that the above mentioned friend recently painted for me!!

I DID NOT PAINT THIS!! ^^^^^^^^^ ...as if that was not obvious... Enjoy!!

I'll admit the Calgar model is one of my favorites (the new TDA one, or course), but I have no desire to play vanilla when I can play with tooth and claw!! I assure you that Brother Mjollner!!

I spent most of the weekend painting the base color on all of my grey hunters... Good lord did that suck. Now it's done however, and my army is that much closer to being finished!! More updates soon, with fun little pictures.
