LPC - Word Bearers

The Prophet

Recommended Posts

I, the Prophet of the Chaos Ascendant, vow on the honour of my Legion to paint and present at least 5 CSM Word Bearers, 5 Raptors, 1 Raptor Lord and a Contemptor Pattern Dreadnought on or before the 31st of March, 2012. I promise to provide at least two WIP updates, preferably with pictures, in that time. I vow that if I should fail, I will provide the Librarium with an article and wear the Signature of Shame until my penitence period is done.

My promise here should be very easy to accomplish, but since I am always slower than I think I am, it will probably me more than enough. This is the plan:

January - 5 CSM and Lord

February - 5 Raptors

March - Contemptor Pattern Dreadnought

All will be Word Bearers of course! This is how far I've come with the CSM. I'm on the arms now, trying to get them done before the week is over.

These are looking great. The lighting is a little dark to see all the details, but as the battle-brother above mentioned, the parchments that you did are fantastic looking. They look very weathered as opposed to the more traditional "clean" purity seal parchment that you typically see on loyalists. That's a very good thing for a Chaos Marine army! I'll be watching this one for sure, and good luck on your vow!

The red is lovely and smooth - I'll be following this thread with interest!

How did you paint the flames? They look great and I'm struggling painting them on my Salamanders...

Thanks guys! I'm struggling with an old raptor lord right now, I will try to get some pictures up soon.

I start to paint them white (because I use a black undercoat) then apply blood red which I take to blazing orange and further on to sunburst yellow.

It's a rather old conversion that I previously gave up on due to

1. The left shoulder pad came out OK (far from good), but I could not bear the thought of having it different from the rest of my marines in power armour.

2. The arm looks a bit misplaced.

3. It ain't sexy walking around with bird feet.

But I think I'll just paint him up and try to forget about all this. What I do like is his pose, the wings and the awesome mace.

Great stuff! Am in awe of your red armour and highlights! :D How did you get them so smooth? Just well thinned?

I'm not sure, but I do paint with patience most of the time. I screw up sometimes but go back for repaint.

Seldom is the Chaos Lord considered a no-brainer these days, but this one must be if you think of the amount of cables that has to fit inside his wicked skull.

The idea behind this fellow was to give him the mark of chaos ascendant, why you have the nurgled pointing arm, the slaaneshi drugs in his brain, the changing feet and wings of tzeentch and the khornate smash-your-face-in attitude. Though I didn't like the outcome and already have plans for a successor when the new codex arrives, I was quite happy to see the result considering the flaws of the build - much better than having him crushed back to bitsbox material. I can at least use him this year.

The head and the mace are probably my favorite parts of the model, thats pretty intense. Are those cables custom work, or were they part of the metal figure he's based off of?

The cables were mostly there already, but I have prolonged them into his backpack.
