Recommended Posts

My complete vow for the DA challenge is:

ten man scout squad

ten man scout squad

five man scout squad

five man scout squad

five man scout squad

five man scout squad

cassius

lysander

drop pod

drop pod

for those unfamiliar my new project its a further adaption of my MK2 scouts (i call them MK3, catchy name i know :P ) the idea is to use the SOB dex to reprisent the ultramarines tenth company

my increasing number of scout 'sisters'

http://i708.photobucket.com/albums/ww87/greatcrusade08/007-14.jpg

i have over 30 more scout legs incoming and have the PA bodies waiting for them, it shouldnt take long to patch them up and greenstuff them all

heres my bases, i ordered 80 from back-2-bas-ix in australia, great company, great product (ok thats enough im not getting paid enough to advertise)

in the process of being stripped and cleaned

here the adeptus battlegrey basecoat goes on the 'rock' area

another update on my bases

http://i708.photobucket.com/albums/ww87/greatcrusade08/003-19.jpg

i used astronomicon grey, painted all sides of the base and drybrushed the 'rocky' area

just need to flock, but before i can do that i have to paint the flock areas white first, otherwise the snow will appear anemic

An impressive commitment GC08, and a good start to it too. Pity your representing the ULtras. I wish more of the Liber showed your kind of passion.

Oh and I forgot to say, interesting idea on using the SoB codex for an all scout army. Look forward to seeing more on this.

ok chaps, bases are finally complete

http://i708.photobucket.com/albums/ww87/greatcrusade08/0022.jpg

thats 80 bases which should more than complete my projects.

ive also added some things to my vow, firstly are two drop pods which arrived this morning.

http://i708.photobucket.com/albums/ww87/greatcrusade08/003-20.jpg

secondly is a mini thats been hanging around without a purpose, my little brother had it made by some american chap a few years ago for his DA army (counts as belial or something).

apart from overly large feet something has been nagging me about the model, and then it came to me, hes not an ultramarine... so im going to change that.

http://i708.photobucket.com/albums/ww87/greatcrusade08/0012-2.jpg

i figured its fitting for the nature of this challenge to destroy the DA and leave an ultramarine in its place ;)

its going to be a total repaint, but im going to avoid stripping it if i can

anyhoo in other news ive made further progress with my infantry, im missing some arms but ive got all the infantry needed to complete the vow put together, i hope to basecoat them today

pics later if possible

Looks great....keep it up! Can't wait to see what you do with the angel.

thanks mate, i plan to put some studs on the shield to replace those awful divets, i expect to do alot of freehand on this chap, really make him pop.

i think im going to make him agemmon.

anyhoo another update

http://i708.photobucket.com/albums/ww87/greatcrusade08/0013.jpg

first drop pod assembled and undercoated, im going to paint the internal stuff before assembling the struts, should pove easier (i hope)

the second one is on my 'to do' list for this evening.

as for my infantry

http://i708.photobucket.com/albums/ww87/greatcrusade08/0022-1.jpg

of the two halves, the left one has three five man dominions squads with dual melta, sergeants with BP/CCW, and a five man retributor squad with four HB and a storm bolter.

on the right are two 10 man battle sister squads with dual flamer and sergeants with BP/CCW.

this is the entirety of the infantry to complete the vow..

tomorow i intend to base them on the new resins (now completed) and once ive finsihed with my drop pods (time sensitive) i can start painting them up

so making good progress IMHO

C+C always welcome.

Pretty cool looking. Keep it up. I wasn't aware sisters could take drop pods...

no the drop pods arent for the 'sisters' army, im using them for my other scout army on the 2nd/3rd june at GWHQ.. figured since ive got to get them painted, i may aswell add them to my vow

Well this looks very impressive GC08! I do have a soft spot for the 10th - I'm known as Master of Recruits in certain Circles- so I'm following this with great interest. Bases look fantastic, can't wait to see the whole thing developing. Keep it up and good luck!

at last a drop pod update, ive been working on this puppy for about 4 days straight, ive still got about a days work on cleaning up and highlighting the external panels and fins.

the internal stuff is all done and im pretty pleased with it.

only leaves me one week to finish the second one.. i know it wont take as long as the first, but its still going to be a close shave

<_<

Excellent Drop pod there Greatcrudade8!!! Are you going for metalic fins? or just leave them black with some highlight??

thanks man, im going to paint the tips of the pod in blue like the rest, at the moment im using those parts to handle the pod whilst painting, they will get done last.

im going for a black and blue mix to match my scouts land speeder storms, im not adding anymore metallics that arent already on the pod...

Hmmm... with 2000pts to paint I suppose I should get started on my vow too, huh.

Oh and should say I love that drop pod. Especially like the way you have done the ramp/shell bits. And I am gonna have to check out that base company too.

the points value of these things is a littkle weird, at 35 points this thing has taken dozens of hours already, yet for the same time i could have painted two or three character modles for about 400-500 points.

oh well, one of those things.

good luck with your own 2000pt vow

have finally finished my first drop pod, learned a few things along the way too

http://i708.photobucket.com/albums/ww87/greatcrusade08/003-22.jpg

http://i708.photobucket.com/albums/ww87/greatcrusade08/005-18.jpg

its really awkward trying to paint a fully assembled drop pod, the doors keep flying open, its like trying to feed an unco-operative baby..

anyhoo i figured with my second one im going to try and paint it in sections and assemble it at the end.

http://i708.photobucket.com/albums/ww87/greatcrusade08/006-17.jpg

im off to a decent start, im really not sure it will be ready for the weekend, but its useable as is just incase i dont make it.

Great looking scouts GC08.

Can I just say that your 10th Company Tacticia is one of the reasons I finally decided to go with Raptors . Having heard so many negative things about scouts I was wondering about the worth of doing a fluffy Raptors force, but seeing what you did confirmed I would go down that path. So thanks for that

Anyway back to those ace scouts, the choice of blue combined with the grey white body suits looks superb and add to that your choice of basing and you have an A+ army.

Keep up the good work and good luck with your painting vow. I know the Raptors and the Ultra's have not always had an easy working relationship, but lets show those traitorous Dark Angels what Marines can do when they work together!!!

Cheers

PS: Another area I have to thank you for is giving me the idea to convert special characters into scouts. Check out my entry in Maverike Primes 8th Conversion challenge to see what you made me do!

Thanks man, much apreciated.

its funny how things work out, this saturday past i was at my LGS with a couple of guys, using my SOB army and we were half discussing scouts when a new member walked up and was like "scout armies can be really good if you know how to use them"

we nodded and just agreed, i think he though we were being funny/ironic he kept insisiting they were great.

its like the time i was at nottingham and another chap approached me when i had my tenth army out and he said i should check out some guy online who wrote a tactica about them. ;)

Your helmeted scouts are top notch... I really am adopting this when I go about paint some scouts...

So who's leading them? Tenth Captain? Do you have a mini painted yet? (I know I'm doing mine in Termie armour!)

Unfortunately he wont see paint for a while due to this man ^^ and his dark Angels painting challenge! Ive opted to paint some power armoured troops first as they will be quicker and I have not chosen the camo scheme I will be doing on the soft armour yet.

Looking forward to seeing more of your scouts painted up. Quick question: What is your recipe for the white chest eagles? They look fantastic.

Cheers

in my actual tenth co army, i have multiple HQs inc. Vulkan, shrike and khan (mounted and on foot).

as this is a counts as SOB my army will be led by uriah jacobus and celestine.. for my counts as celestine im using cassius with a jump pack

i use a basecoat of foundation paint adeptus battlegrey.., i then carefully pick our the individual 'fronds' using foundation colour astronomicon grey.

lastly i use white to highlight the edges of each frond (both inner and outer rings)

cassius is complete

http://i708.photobucket.com/albums/ww87/greatcrusade08/0012-5.jpg

i decided to shave off the tyranid by his feet, as i wouldnt be able to use my scenic base otherwise. It meant having to resculpt a large part of his right foot though which was somewhat labour intensive.

still a shiny new coat of paint and hes ready to fly.

my photography seems to let my painting down a bit though
