Cactus' Consecrators

Cactus

Recommended Posts

[EDIT 25/8/12] This thread began life as my entry for the ETL competition and now shows all the Consecrators reinforcements for my Dark Angels collection. The good stuff starts a few posts down. [/EDIT]

An almost assembled contemptor dreadnought, held together with blu-tac.

Ok, so I lied about the updates. Skyrim got in the way. Here is my nameless contemptor dreadnought, recent reinforcements from the Consecrators chapter.

First, being welcomed to the Rock by the Deathwing and to show the scale of the model.

How big is the Kheres assault cannon?!

...and of the second most fiddly chapter badge ever devised by GW.

Magnets!

From a technical point of view this is without a doubt the greatest model kit I've ever assembled. The legs are a pain to get right but the scope for articulation is jaw-dropping. I'd really like to see one modelled doing a flying kick, because it's a perfectly feasible pose with all those ball-and-socket joints. I already have another Kheres assault cannon and a cyclone missile launcher to assemble so I'll have the option to field him as a mortis pattern and/or with some extra firepower.

I realised as I was uploading the photos that I've forgotten to add the tufts of tall grass to the base, but for all intents and purposes he's finished. I want another one.

Nice job on the Relic Contemptor! If I hadn't have needed to make space for the heads on the Contemptor I have up and the next one I am doing, the canopies look great but several of mine won't have them sadly. That and having to remove the Aquilas... lqtm PRe/Heresy style and all :)

When this model first came out I was a hater, after seening so many cool ones like this I must admit I am a convert.

Agreed Stobz - it's a grower rather than love at first sight - over time the 'walking dustbin' is coming good. And it certainly looks great in black and gold :) Congrats on vow completion Cactus.

Thanks guys, I'm glad you like it. I have plans to revisit him some time and add some decorative Dark Angel parts from my bitz box. I actually liked the contemptor model as soon as I saw it, probably because I saw it as a resurrection of the Rogue Trader dreadnoughts and I love that kind of digging about in miniatures history. The original Fury, Chuck and Eddy can be seen here.

I'll be using the same colours on my forthcoming Tartaros terminators. You didn't think I'd let him wander about without an honour guard did you? :cuss

We're suffering a bit of a heatwave here in the eastern UK, which is ideal weather for borrowing my girlfriend's camera, getting out on my balcony and taking some naturally lit photos. Here are some nicer photos of the finished contemptor, now with alternative weapons. Thanks to Burai-Drak'shal and Harleqvin for the ideas that inspired the iron halo for when I'm not using the cyclone missile launcher.

I finished assembling my tartaros pattern terminators last night so I'm re-purposing this thread to show my Consecrators models as they come together. I'm aiming to complete this squad by next Saturday when there'll be a sudden influx of new models to The Rock.

Any ideas what do with the storm shield? I'm thinking of adding a few purity seals and slapping a big Consecrators emblem in the middle but better suggestions are welcome!

I'm looking forward for your take on the Tartaros! I really like your poses - especially the TH guy! The shield definately begs for attention - if you're comfortable with your free-hand skills go ahead with the Consecrators badge. If you want to play safe you can either try a red stripe accross the middle or paint one half differently - say green - or try hazard stripes...

Your Consecrators were part of the inpiration for painting my contemptor the way I did, so I'll try not to disappoint! I tried to get the lightning claws to look like he was stepping forwards, clawing at the enemy's face. The hammer and shield pose was shamelessly pinched from Forge World's website. I'm considering hazard stripes on the power fists.

If you have one of these it would work pretty well.

It's a good idea and I do have some of those but I already did that with my Deathwing command squad. Also, the tartaros storm shield is two flat halves that meet at an angle, so not very suitable to mounting a large flat piece. Thanks anyway.

Really like the contemptor, Those termies are looking really good, I'm not sure about the scale but would one of those etched brass icons from FW be good for the shield?

Hmm, one of the horizontal name plates would fit perfectly, but I'd have to bend it perfectly in the centre and I'm not sure I'm up to that task. It's a possibility though. All the others are either too large or Dark Angel really.

I'd quite like to do a small mural. Something in keeping with the Dark Angel banners and decoration, but that says 'Consecrators'. Maybe an Angel of Death holding a chalice?
