Death Guard army project

Fullbrook

Recommended Posts

Ok so I'm starting a new CSM army but due to some issues with my attention span (mostly my complete lack of) I have decided to keep me on track i would post my progress on here, so feel free to give any advice or criticism (constructive) also this is purely a painting project so more concerned about being fluffy than codex compliant, thanks

Oooh that looks very cool. Understated corruption with subtly dribbling blood and pus. The slack, stumbling gait of the miniature is superb as well.

Thanks a lot, not too sure about the bolter maybe too much rust (if that's possible for a plague marine) think maybe i'll re-paint the casing green to match the shoulder pads.

heres some more just completed.

Very characterful poses. I like all the effort you put into your minis before painting them, and the paint really brings all that effort to life. My only gripe is the skin-tone blends in a bit well with the armor, on that helmetless marine... not sure what could be done about it aside from some contrasting highlights, maybe. Very minor complaint, and most plaguemarines use very complimentary colors anyhow.

Too much rust on the bolter? That's the one major complaint I hear from critics of the plague god: those weapons would never fire. I'm sure many a guardsman thought the same thing just before they felt their ribcage exploding outwards.

I can definitely see your point I wanted the skin tone to be pale almost dead looking so i added some grey into the mix for the skin this has pretty much made it the same colour as the white armour after i gave it its washes.

I was thinking maybe a very light purple wash on the flesh. my only worry is that I'm not planning on using purple in any other context across my other mini's :/

Yeah, maybe give him so white (or white mixed with rotting flesh or whatever the new version of that paint is called now) and wash with purple. Also, throwing some rust onto his face mask/breather apparatus might help to pop out his face skin a bit more, to contrast the skin. I dunno, just throwing out ideas. I have the same problem with mine: hard to tell where the skin ends and the power armor begins.

Great stuff, man! Speaking of the rust -- how did you do it? I'd imagine that a bit of metal chipping at the edges would break it up a bit, as if the rust was mainly on the surface and chipped off by heavy use. But I wouldn't say it's too much rust. There can't be too much.

Cheers, JT

You know, I was just looking at these again and thinking 'these would make great examples of 'The Cleaved'' with their leaky, oily joints and armor. Never was sure how to pull that off, but these are really growing on me. If you haven't decided on a warband yet, I rarely see those guys, and they are canon!

^Yours look much better.

Thank you for all the positive feedback guys really appreciate it, hope to get the last three from this squad finished today before work will post as soon as finished.

For the rust i used calthan brown with a heavy drybrush of snakebite leather followed by a light drybrush of fiery orange then a light wash of devlan mud. (not sure what these are called now or if they even still exist)

For the leaking pus/blood i literally just used a pin vice to make a tiny pock mark and when i came to paint just put a dot of chestnut ink (again not sure what that is now) in the indent and with a fine detail brush just carefully pull the ink directly downwards.

I'm thinking that the metal chipped idea is the way to go will test it out on the next three.

I like how you pulled off the classic Death Guard color scheme, but filthed it up. That's basically what I do for my army (I never liked the solid green scheme), but damn ... your guys are way dirtier. Must be crawling around some swamp planet :D

Thankfully Necrosius just arrived and I'm very happy with the cast no imperfections, I have just completed the conversion work on the last three Terminators I also found an old Landraider I had from an old (uncompleted) project which i have decided will serve the master of decay as Necrosius personal transport.

I just took a vow to paint 1XNecrosius 6X Terminators and 1X Landraider by the 15th ;)

Pics to follow shortly.

Also I really appreciate all the comments please keep them coming as they're really helping me to stay motivated.
