Hi,

After recently picking up the DV set I've decided it's time to start a new Chaos army, Emeperor's Children to be specific.

I won't bore you with why I chose EC, just I love the fluff and bright pink! :)

I've only finished 2 models thus far, both Chosen from the new set:

http://i155.photobucket.com/albums/s301/mikeymouatt/th_Photo0937.jpg

http://i155.photobucket.com/albums/s301/mikeymouatt/th_Photo0936.jpg

http://i155.photobucket.com/albums/s301/mikeymouatt/th_Photo0934.jpg

I've begun painting another 2 Chosen which are in various stages of having their pink applied, which you can see in this pic:

http://i155.photobucket.com/albums/s301/mikeymouatt/th_Photo0953.jpg

I use the new GW pinks for these, starting with Screamer pink and then moving up all the way to pure white for the very edges on things such as the trims.

It's time-consuming but I think the result is worthy of the time and effort.

My Masses of unpainted models in my really cramped cabinet:

http://i155.photobucket.com/albums/s301/mikeymouatt/th_Photo0951.jpg

This should give you an idea of how slowly I paint and how often I finish units :P .

And finally, we have an armless Chaos lord I used as a Guinea pig for the colour scheme, who I hope to finish soon ( providing I can find him some suitable arms ofcourse!):

http://i155.photobucket.com/albums/s301/mikeymouatt/th_Photo0952.jpg

I've a box of Chaos Marines i'm hoping to convert' kitbash to better represent Fulgrim's minions so if anyone has any ideas on how do just that, then do leave me a comment. You'll earn a cookie for your good deed! ;)

I'll update as regularly as I can which depends on my motivation to paint, which to be fair is quite high lately with the lovely DV models!

Thanks for looking.

Cheers,

Mike.

Hi,

Ok, so I was hoping to have another 2 Chosen finished by tonight but i'm suffering from really strong toothache at the moment and can't really settle down for some painting so I thought I may as well pass the time by showing what i've done so far.

Areas such as the metallics are still unfinished:

http://i155.photobucket.com/albums/s301/mikeymouatt/th_Photo0954.jpg

http://i155.photobucket.com/albums/s301/mikeymouatt/th_Photo0955.jpg

http://i155.photobucket.com/albums/s301/mikeymouatt/th_Photo0956.jpg

http://i155.photobucket.com/albums/s301/mikeymouatt/th_Photo0957.jpg

http://i155.photobucket.com/albums/s301/mikeymouatt/th_Photo0958.jpg

So this time round i've opted for red tabards and piping as I thought the previous green was maybe a bit to garish next to all that pink.

However now i've seen the red version next to the grenn i'm not too sure. I think the green probably works better with it being more contrasting than the red. Oh well, I was planning on making the squad members varied in thier appearance so i'll stick with it for these two and maybe try something else with the remaing two models ( maybe a dark blue??).

Any thoughts on where I should go with the piping would be nice to hear.

I did cobble together 3 Chaos marines today. I'm trying to kitbash/ convert every model in my army bar those from the DV no matter how small a conversion may be.

http://i155.photobucket.com/albums/s301/mikeymouatt/th_Photo0959.jpg

I plan on breaking out the GS and adding some more Slaaneshi features such as leather and adding some Lucius style tortued faces on armour panels.

You may have noticed they are only sporting a shoulder pad each on thier right arms and thats because i'm undecided as to whether I should attempt the Legion Insignia via transfers or order some metal sculpted pads. Does anybody have any decent guides for using the transfers and/or any experiance with the metal shoulder pads??

Hopefully I'll finish the Chosen soon so I can get cracking on the Hellbrute and Cultists. :)

For a bonus, a quick piccie of my very slight conversion on the DA master from the DV set:

Cheers,

Mike.

I really like what you've done with the DV kit, it's inspired me to paint mine in EC colours instead of what i was originally going to do. If you're open to criticism i would say that the red gets somewhat lost around the pink, particularly in regards to the pipes, have you tried painting them in other colours as personally i've found that bright blue and green work really well with pink.

HI,

I agree about the red not being the best choice of coulour and will avoid using it in the future against the pink models.

I did actually paint the pipes green on the first model and it does work alot better.

Cheers for the thoughts. :D

Another minor update today.

Halfway through a tester model for the cultists and the 2 Chosen are near enough complete with just the white highlights, bases and the odd bit here and there that needs doing.

http://i155.photobucket.com/albums/s301/mikeymouatt/th_Photo0966.jpg

http://i155.photobucket.com/albums/s301/mikeymouatt/th_Photo0965.jpg

http://i155.photobucket.com/albums/s301/mikeymouatt/th_Photo0964.jpg

The Cultist has been a pleasure to paint so far and besides time spent waiting for washes to dry has only set me back about 40-45 mins worth of painting time, which is really low for me. :D

His skin and the metal sections are finished leaving just his trousers, belt and wrist bands left to paint. Also that wierd wire on the left side of his chest needs doing but i'm not even sure what its supposed to be yet.

Today also saw me having a go with the greenstuff and reminded me why I usually avoid it as much as possible.

I'm absolutely useless with the stuff to the point where I find it frustrating even filling gaps with it. :(

http://i155.photobucket.com/albums/s301/mikeymouatt/th_Photo0970.jpg

http://i155.photobucket.com/albums/s301/mikeymouatt/th_Photo0968.jpg

http://i155.photobucket.com/albums/s301/mikeymouatt/th_Photo0967.jpg

he first bloke has a really poorly sculpted leather thingie wrapped around his left thigh and Smug marine (why I chose that head, has a right arrogant look on his face!) now has a shoulder pad and gun casing decorated with some nice shrieking tortured souls.

I'm hoping that the painting will make up for my lacklustre GS skills and get across that these are marines devoted to Slaanesh.

Tomorrow I should finally be getting started on the Hellbrute and the Last Chosen (probably not going to bother with the duplicate).

Thanks for reading. B)

Put a few hours in today on my first Hellbrute and he's coming along nicely:

http://i155.photobucket.com/albums/s301/mikeymouatt/th_Photo0972.jpg

So, this is Doris and he's a very bright pink Hellbrute. Which naturally means he's also a rather enraged Hellbrute! :)

The pink is done besides the white highlights and the shading i'll have to apply on his fist ( messed up the layer so i'm just going to blackline it with a purple wash). I'm going to start on his flesh tomorrow which will look somewhat like the mutation on the LC chosens' left shoulder.

Really wishing I had left that Front plate unglued though, going to be a colossal pain to paint. Oh well.

Cheers,

Mike.

P.S. Wish some bloody pics of the new chaos models would hurry up and get leaked on the net!

Nicely done. I like the idea that the reason for the Hellbrutes going mad is not because they're dreadnaughts, but because of other things, such as being painted pink, or an itch they can't quite scratch.

Hi.

DAMN YOU POVERTY!!!!!!!

I know how that feels! :(

Hellbrute. Ugghh, really wish I'd have painted this thing before I glued it! <_<

I have made some significant progress though despite my waning motivation to finish the model.

http://i155.photobucket.com/albums/s301/mikeymouatt/th_Photo0978.jpg

As you can see i've done his flesh and the piping and also begun on the metal areas. I'm not 100% happy with how he's turning out but it isn't too bad.

I still need to shade his power fist and add some gold to the model, probably on the eyes on its chasis and on the chaos star on the fist.

I'm unsure of how i'm going to paint the tentacles protruding from his side so if anyone has any ideas, please do share them. ;)

Think i'll reward myself with something shiny from Games Day for getting through this! ;) ^_^

Cheers,

Mike.

I should really be finishing my Helbrute but this sexy beast is distracting me:

http://i155.photobucket.com/albums/s301/mikeymouatt/th_Photo0983.jpg

The model is absolutley gorgeous! My first FW model and I was pleasantly suprised at just how much better the quality of the resin is in comparison to finecast.

The details and so crisp and some such as the wires are really fine. Angron is quite alot taller than the pictures suggest, not far off twice the height of a marine and he is ofcourse much bulkier.

Really looking forward to painting Angron but I promise i'll finish the Helbrute and the rest of my EC as soon as i'm done! :turned:

Decided it was best to finish the Helbrute before i'm overtaken with Pre-heresy fever:

http://i155.photobucket.com/albums/s301/mikeymouatt/th_Photo0984.jpg

http://i155.photobucket.com/albums/s301/mikeymouatt/th_Photo0986.jpg

http://i155.photobucket.com/albums/s301/mikeymouatt/th_Photo0988.jpg

Quite happy with the finished model and it makes a pretty decent centrepiece for my feldgling force.

I have started Angron however:

http://i155.photobucket.com/albums/s301/mikeymouatt/th_Photo0989.jpg

Not much done but its a start.

I do however need some opinions on how to paint the 3 dead/dying legionaires on his base. Should they all be from the same legion, 2 from one and 1 from another or all 3 different? And which legions?

Cheers,

Mike.

The Helbrute is very nice, I especially like the skin. I'm doing ECs because of this blog. As for Angron's base, you could do a couple pre-heresy ECs and maybe one of his own legion or something.

Have you read the HH book where he went down to the surface and did the thing? I'd paint the other Marines to fit whoever you envisioned him killing the most of.

For me, I'd paint them just as FW did, as that seems to represent the title "Betrayal" quite well, with him cutting down troops of his own legion.

Hi,

More progress with Angron who now has some nice shiny armour and is currently trampling a very early stages loyalist World-eater:

http://i155.photobucket.com/albums/s301/mikeymouatt/th_Photo0996_zps5badb477.jpg

http://i155.photobucket.com/albums/s301/mikeymouatt/th_Photo0995_zpsb2ed17c0.jpg

http://i155.photobucket.com/albums/s301/mikeymouatt/th_Photo0994_zps49f46e93.jpg

http://i155.photobucket.com/albums/s301/mikeymouatt/th_Photo0993_zps19f7498d.jpg

http://i155.photobucket.com/albums/s301/mikeymouatt/th_Photo0992_zps7d7173c4.jpg

I'm pretty happy with how it's turning out and its been a pleasant experience painting the model.

The pictures don't quite capture the depth of colour in the golden armour which has a red tinge to get across that he's a Gladatorial butcher who likely leaves the blood to sink into the grooves of his plate armour. It still needs some silver highlights to finish it of.

His skin is done and I'm quite pleased with his face.

The trampled Legionaire will eventually be a Fallen World Eater but is very WIP (just a white base and wash for shading).

Painting Angron and reading the World Eaters section of HH book 1 is really driving me to collect a Pre-Heresy WE force and I think i'm going to go for it ( at least untill Fulgrim gets a model :) ).

I'll be keeping them as 40K compatible as possible with the aim of using them in my Chaos army and also being usuable in a loyalist space marine army i'm planning.

Cheers,

Mike.

  • 2 weeks later...

Finished Angron today:

http://i155.photobucket.com/albums/s301/mikeymouatt/th_Photo1004.jpg

I want to really finish him by adding some realistic blood to his axes' but i'm going to have to research and practice it first, so for now he's done.

His scenic base will have to wait as i'm really wanting to step up my efforts to get my Chaos army done so I can finally start gaming. :)

Progress on Cultists and Chosen with power Maul (plus better shots of the Hellbrute who was on GW's blod last week :) ):

I'm really skint at the moment so it's looking like it'll be a few weeks before I can buy the new 'Dex and some models but atleast that should give me time to finsh the DV stuff I have left to do. :P

Cheers,

Mike.

http://i155.photobucket.com/albums/s301/mikeymouatt/th_Photo1012.jpg

I have another 2 of those Space Crusade Chaos marines and I reckon they will look quite cool mixed into my Marine squads. :P

Emperors Children in Ull? Right thats it my fists are coming for you Mikey!

Great stuff buddy. Well have to meet up for a game some time, living in the same fair city and all.

Keep up the good work

I'm quaking in my pink, fluffy armoured boots! :P

I don't actually play the game at the moment but i'm planning on starting in the next few weeks ( the GW store is running a beginners night on Wednesdays), so once i've got a decent grasp of the rules i'd love to have a game! ;)

Cheers,

Mike.
