A preliminary update.

Between work and everything else, I am way off schedule. With the (American) holiday weekend coming up, I hope to make up for lost time.

Every project begins with materials. I managed to get the "Tide of Spawn" box at Gen-Con for $100 (!)

And here is the lord, assembled from Forge World and Games Workshop parts, Nurgled up a bit. Yes, He's a special weapons specialist since (wait for it) it's something special we can do. ;)

And yes, this fellow signals a slight deviation from my original plan to keep The Deprecators "undivided". I intend to run a mix of unmarked units, and Nurgle-marked ones. Clearly, a deeper expression of death worship is taking root among my already grim and ghoulish warband.

NOVEMBER UPDATE 1

At long last, after finishing another project, I am actually rolling on my Call of Chaos!

Here we see my Nurgle Specialist Weapons Specialist with his (barely dry) basecoat!

Deprecators? Do they take to the field and hurl insults like the French in Holy Grail? ;)

Cool conversion so far though.

It happens that way more often than I'd like:

HAAARR! SPARE NONE OF THE DOGS OF THE CORPSE EMPEROR!!

(Cough) GRAAAH SPARE NONE OF THE THINBLOODS!!!

THOSE OF YOU THAT ARE LEFT (Cough Wheeze) WE HAVE THEM NOW!!!

**etc..**

NOVEMBER UPDATE 2

Here we have our Nurgle Lord. The paint is 99% done, and then basing. I plan on doing a rocky/ snow kind of thing.

And here we have ... well, ten bases with rubble and stuff, and ten spawn bodies, ready for super-limbification.

Ta da!

DECEMBER UPDATE 1

Ahh winter, the time to open all the windows in the house, get a nice glass of iced tea and read a book on the porch, listening to the sounds of the birds....

...Yeah, it's a strange winter so far in the Midwest US.

Anyway, here is how my Nurgle Terminator Lord's basing turned out:

gallery_60727_7283_37626.jpg

I think I got the right image of wreckage amid dry grass and snow. I plan on varying the amount of snow so that the "front line" elements of my army (namely the chaos spawn) have more snow, and units that would be further back (say, some Havocs) will have melted the snow with weapons fire, and trampled the earth into mud. We'll see how it works out.

Speaking of Chaos Spawn, here are my beasties assembled and primed:

And here they are about half way painted:

gallery_60727_7283_51482.jpg

As you can see I have them segregated into units by color, and also by the presence or absence of a tail. This will help out if they wind up in the same melee.

And so, Dear Reader, if you have made it this far, I'd like to ask for some input. As I paint the extremities and details of these spawn, should I go for a "stained with old blood and new entrails" look, or simply pick out the limbs in some range of colors that make sense for each unit, or the ever popular "little bit of column A, little bit of column B"? keep in mind that the bases will be most white snow.

Thanks for looking!

(edit - spelling)

DECEMBER UPDATE 2

Chaos Spawn!

I stuck mostly with the cold colors, and steered away from the gore. I like how my snow bases are coming out, but under the unflinching gaze of the macro lens, I see I have some loose "snow" pieces.

Madness is coming your way!

With the completion of my initial vow, I find myself with room for 2 more units and about a month to paint! And so, without further ado...

DECEMBER UPDATE 3

I have finished the two Vindicators that represent the Fourth and Fifth units in my Call of Chaos vow.

Here they are!

I hope you like them as much as I do.

I can't wait to use these to bring some Strength 10 RUIN to an opposing army!

(Edit - I can't count)

The fuzziness of the pics and dark palette hide it well, but on close inspection I have concluded that you, sir, got skillz. ;)

My one critique would be that all the damage on the Vindis seems to be circular. That sort of uniformity tends to hinder the battle damage look.
