Night Lords 2000 Pts WIP

Welcome to my WIP thread.

So a little bit of background-
I have just returned from a deployment, and thankfully during that time I was able to set aside money that would finally allow me to build the army that I wanted. I had been caught between Blood Angels and Chaos Space Marines, and I had been out of the hobby for a little while. So when 6th Ed came out, I jumped in feet first, and went with the Chaos Codex.

Why Night Lords?
I'm a fan of the A-D-B novels and pretty much all Night Lord fluff, I like Batman, and I like the bat helms.

So the breakout of the army will look something like this;
x1 Raptor Lord (Assembled)
x18 Raptors (Assembled)
x20 CCW CSM w/ Metla Guns (Assembled)
x20 CSM w/ Plasma Guns (Assembled)

x15 Havocs w/ x12 Forge World Autocannons (Assembled)
x1 Aegis Siege Line (Ordered)
x10 Bikers (80%)

Here's a shot of all the crap I have so far (I'm just missing the Bikers and Siege Line, and I'm currently waiting on my Forge World order)

You may have noticed a copy of Realm of Chaos and 3rd edition codex. I couldn't resist getting them, and they were pretty cheap on amazon. Still waiting on my copy of Rouge Trader and Codex: Chaos.

So, the idea behind the army is to get me back into the game, modeling, painting, and hopefully a bit into custom conversion. The reason for this WIP thread is to get me involved in the community, and get motivated to finish the army, and try things I haven't yet.
Unfortunately I got back a little late to take place in the Call to Chaos, but I'll see what I can manage.

"Gods of the Warp! I have never prayed to you before. I have no tongue for it. No one, not even you, will remember if we were good men or bad. Why we fought, or why we died. All that matters is that today, I stood against a great task. That's what's important! Blood pleases you, Khorne; so grant me this one request. Grant me completion! And if you do not listen, then to hell with you!"

My goal is to update the thread with models twice a week, and monitor it constantly for any input you guys have.

That's a nice objective.

Looks like you have everything for a good start.

I will keep my eye on this thread, as proud owner of Night Lords' force.

Welcome to our ranks and I wish you luck :) hope to see next update soon.

I think I like this quote. Hope you don't mind if I sig it.

And I guess this is my official welcoming you to the forum.

Damn, Dude - that's a lot of boxes...

You sound like my wife! ;)

Thanks! And welcome back to you as well.

Yes for boxes of Raptors! What an amazing box set. I does have a few draw backs that I haven't seen on the forum yet. Nothing major, but if your building models and don't have any green stuff (like me) it can be a little bit of a bummer.

The jump packs don't use the standard, 'power pack' set up. I think that would be the best way to put it. So unless your prepared to do some cutting and green stuffing, it restricts you to using the backs out of the box, not a terribly big deal. The backs out of the box are just slightly off from the standard CSM chests. The CSM chests also have longer pegs, but you just cut them off and they fit fine.

Those bitz are going all over the army. Ill have tons of extra heads and shoulder pads, thanks to my metal Night Lord upgrades.

I'm flattered, but in good conscious I can't have you not know that my words were inspired by my main man Conan the Barbarian.

Anyways, as a general update, I've opened up most of the boxes and have looked at all the bitzy goodness. This is going to fun.

I've constructed 3 raptors so far, as well as attempted to make my raptor lord, but I need some green stuff to make it work. When I get some more raptors done, ill post some pictures.

Okay fair enough. It just caught my eye and just happened to fit with exactly how I view the Night Lords. I'll remove it then. -_-

On the note of the Raptor back packs, I haven't put them on the regular CSM yet, but I did put one on the Aspiring Champion model that goes by itself. It actually doesn't fit as bad as you would think. There are pictures on my WIP thread that can be seen HERE. It was similar but not exact. No greenstuff was used and nothing was shaved or filed, although the AC is missing the little bulb that is on the back of the regular CSM. So I think if you just get rid of that, you should be set. But it looks like you've already dipped into it a bit and used greenstuff so there is every chance I am wrong. :)

Anyway, good luck with the updates!

Ha you didn't have to change it, just didn't want to take all of the credit for it.

Thanks for the link.

EDIT: Also, right after I posted, the post man came and delivered me a package from Forge World. All the autocannons, its amazing. Along with command squad upgrades and a fire team in Mk2 and Mk4.

I think pictures will be up tomorrow!

Time for a beer.

Firstly: Welcome back from deployment, and thank you. Which branch?

Secondly: Looks like your gonna have a fairly epic Night Lords army! Cant wait to see some built marines... :whistling:

One question: What is that Chaos book on the right side of the picture. I don't recognize the art work on the front cover.

Thanks. I'm a U.S. Marine.

I can't wait to get some pictures up. I'll post some tomorrow when I get a few more models ready, and get my hands on some proper super glue.

The book in question is the First Chaos Codex from 3rd edition, if I am not mistaken. Also while building the army, I'm gonna try and get my hands a lot of the old fluff and rules, just for the fun of it.

Should have guessed that given your location in Cal and NC, :)

MEPS willing, Ill be there with ya.

That explains why I didn't recognize it. I started playing after the revised edition came out. (the one with the black legion artwork)

Okay guys, so here are my first 5 models.

My Raptor Lord, 2 Raptor Champs, 1 Raptor, and then an Aspiring Champ that my wife helped me build (she picked the pieces).

I'm going for a very mis/matched armor pattern with a few complete/mostly complete older marks. Based off the idea that they have been warring across the stars for a few millenia. Pretty much any standardized marking other then the Skull of Nostramo has gone out the window. Some of the standard Marine models, I want to give them the feel that these were kids that were just abducted and have really no clue about the Heresy, and haven't earned the right to wear the Wings or the Skull yet.

Lots a Space Wolf bits, as well as some from Black Templar and the standard Tac Marine box. Though I hardly have the patience to put more than 2 or 3 together a day, I find it very exciting to get back into things. I think that the fact I have such a big pile of bits to use doesn't make things much easier for me though.

Pics aren't the best quality, they came from the iPhone.

For the most part, I'm trying to keep the army from being to heavily modified with green stuff, but one of my CCW Squads I plan to add cloaks and hoods to, but that's later on down the road.

As you can see, no paint. The idea is to get them table ready by January, and the hopefully completely painted by March. A few of the models still have flash on them, mostly do to the fact that I was drinking while I assembled them, but the final quality check before painting should catch all of this.

In other news, got my Crusade of Fire book today, I look forward to reading it later.

Cheers,

Thanks for all the input and support.

Time for my first update of the week. I have finally finished my first 9 man Raptor squad with 2 melta guns.

http://i1338.photobucket.com/albums/o699/patrick_murray1/11111.jpg

I'm having a little difficultly sitting down and making more than one model at a time.

I think that it's just the fact that I've been gone for a little while and there is just so much to catch up on. That I really don't find myself wanting to spend more than 30 minutes or so at time making models. I do enjoy it while I am doing it though.

I'm starting to put a few forge world pieces into the mix. I'm mostly saving those pieces for the Havocs. 8 more Raptors and I'll probably begin on the Havocs.

Cheers.

Ave Dominus Nox Brother,

Nice to see someone else going from 0 to 2000 with Night Lords in one big push. I like what you've done with the Lord, I think the stock the stock GW model looks far too static and dumpy but the warp talon parts have really got the job done, I'll def be keeping an eye on the thread.

Regards,

Cleal.

I'm not too keen on the wolf headed champ it doesn't really say Night Lords to me but will be keeping tabs on this thread...

Well that whole thing kinda came from Here, it's going to come into play a little while later with my tactical squads.

Taking a little play from the ADB playbook and having a few traitors that retain some of there old legion/chapter traditions/markings or something.

So whats next? will you be painting or converting more stuff?

I a little hesitant to try painting before the whole army is assembled. I think it would just bog me down. I'm trying to get the army game ready before I make them very pretty. I'm probably also just gonna paint a lot of random bits before I try painting an entire guy.

The last claw of Raptors. 9 in total with 2 melta guns.

http://i1338.photobucket.com/albums/o699/patrick_murray1/photo2_zps4309379a.jpg

All 19 of my Raptors including the Lord.

Made from CSM, SM, SW, BT, Raptor, Mk2 and Mk4 armor kits from FW.

Don't really know how long it took as far a work hours but it was about 12 days to complete 19 of them. A little over 1 a day. I'll be moving on to my Autocannon Havocs next, they should take a little bit less time. I've decided that I'm going to assemble all of my models before I paint them. I'm kinda using the 'Quantity has a Quality all it's own' thread as a bit of guide.

Anyways,

Thanks for following along so far, and thanks for the input.

Since arterialsplash mentioned it, here are a few close up of my more interesting models.

I have some gaps to fill in at his feet, but over all I like how this guy generally came out. It took a little too much super glue though.

I don't like the one with the horns to be honest. Not sure what I was thinking, but he's staying.

Only regret with this guy is that it seems he's doing business with the pistol instead of the awesome chain glaive/lance I modeled him with. I'll probably model a tactical squad champ with a similar weapon, to try and get it right.

This guy is probably my favorite. His weapon is a club with a large spike. I add the SW helm (not that you can really tell its a SW helm) to make it seem all the more clubby.

These guys make the cut because of the older mk leg armor patterns.
