Venemox's 2013 LPC WIP Thread

Recommended Posts

This is my catch all WIP thread for my 2013 LPC Vow.

I, Venemox of the Blood angels, vow on the honour of my Chapter to paint and present at least 1 unit of Sanguinary Guard on or before the 31st of March, 2013. I promise to provide at least two WIP updates, preferably with pictures, in that time. I vow that if I should fail, I will provide the Librarium with an article and wear the Signature of Shame until my penitence period is done.

As I said in the Blood Angels LPC thread, I will be batch painting 2 units of SG with Dante.

Unit Compositions will be:

Commander Dante
Sanguinary Guard, Chapter Banner, 2 x Infernus Pistols, Power Fist
Sanguinary Guard, 2 x Plasma Pistol, Power Fist

The I will be focusing on for the LPC updates on the 2 x Plasma Pistols, 1 Infernus Pistol, one with Angelus Boltgun, and one with power fist models, for a complete unit of 5.

I'm attempting a new technique... Wet Palette! Mine is constructed of a sandwich shaped food storage container, paper towels and parchment paper. So far, it has drastically reduced my painting times, and made applying the base coat far easier. Also, I've had metallic paint in it for 4 days now, and it's still good.

My paint scheme is relatively simple.

Spray everything with Chaos Black Spray

Armor:

1. Base all gold areas with Blathasar Gold. Ideally, multiple thin coats.
2. Layer all gold areas with a thin coat of Gehenna's Gold
3. Drybrush all gold areas with Golden Griffon
3. Wash with either Agraxe Earthshade or Seraphim Sepia.

Sword:

1. Paint with Mithril Silver (I still have a supply because I used it so sparingly). if that runs out, i'll substitute in Runefang Steel
2. Glaze the blade Guilliman Blue
3. Retouch the blade edge with Mithril Silver (Runefang Steel)

Wings:

I'm leaning towards black with grey highlights, but i'm waiting until i see how dark or light the gold is to formulate a paint plan. This is mostly due to my main complement being black power armor with red details. And I already own a red armored, black winged Astorath the Grim.

Details:

Various, but mostly Blood Red on eye lenses and blood drops throughout the unit. Armor joint segments will be touched up to be black again. laurels will be painted green, etc.

My second WIP post.  I delayed taking pictures, and painted more than i intended to between the first and second posts.  I've completed the armor recipe, and began the power weapons.  So far, I am happy with these techniques.

I'm leaning towards black wings, to bring the tone of the models more in line with rest of my legion.  I'm still considering how to break up the wings (so far, I'm think a dark gray drybrush followed by a Nuln Oil wash).

The wet palette has been nothing but a boon to me.  I'm pleased with the tinting achieved via Guilliman Blue on my weapons.

Well, time for some pics!

So, I finished these guys night before last.  i'm pleased with how the blades and eyes came out.  I decided to keep the wings a muted plain black after trying different white techniques on a test model.  I just couldn't find one that fit my armies overall darkness.  Enough talking, PICTURES!

Unfortunately, some of my single images turned out significantly blurrier than i'm willing to post.  Camera work was so much easier through the periscope of a submarine with a digital SLR than with my point and shoot.  >.<
