Winters Advance - Wolf Guard Battle Leader

Motorbike Mike

Recommended Posts

Good evening all,

This is the work in progress thread for my Winters Advance vow.

I vowed to paint a Wolf Guard Battle Leader on a Bike, I’ve just finished building him.

He’s not for any army, it’s just a display piece.

Comments, criticism and opinions are welcomed as always.

Thanks,

Mike.

Love this model. Where does the bone 'iron halo' thing come from?

Thanks!

It came from the Forge World Space Wolf Venerable Dreadnought, it didn't sit on the model properly and looked odd, so I just slung it in my bits box until now.

Evening all,

An update on my vow is here, I've painted the blue/grey armour for the model.

I've gone for heavy chipping and wear as I think it suits the rugged nature of the Space Wolves, in oposition to having him look like he's just ridden from the showroom.

I'll use dry pigments on him for dirt at the very end of the painting, because dirt happens to all surfaces at once.

Any C&C is more than welcome.

Thanks,
Mike.

  • 2 weeks later...

Good evening all,

Quite a big update today for my Battle Leader.

I've finished painting all of the gold, I tried a new technique on it and I'm really pleased with the results.

The bare metal is also finished, I went for a slightly rusty visage to it as Bikes are notoriously bad at coping with adverse weather conditions.
I looked at my own motorbike for inspiration, its in much better condition than this guys, but its old and has been ridden through many winters and has a few small sweet spots of rust.
So I just expanded on this.

I was hoping for a little input into what colour I should paint the eyes and the wolf pelt on the shoulder?
I did consider the eyes yellow, but then I also though a cold blue would look excellent too.

Thanks,
Mike.

(Apologies for the naff pictures, when things are uploaded to the web, the quality always suffers.)

Verry nice and some nice conversion idea's i might steal borrow

Thanks, it was mostly just a bit of a kit bash from my bits box. I've had it built for ages, but never got around to painting it.

I just wanted in on Winters Advance and I thought this would be a nice vow to take.

It's a stunningly beautiful paintjob, but that is one hella dark-blue Wolf. I thought he was an Ultramarine at first.

Yeah I can see what you mean. It looks more grey/blue than this in person, under different lighting it appears slightly different, I'm not sure why it looks so blue in photos, might be the white balance of the camera. I used a Shadow Grey base coat, with a half and half Asurmen Blue/Nuln Oil wash. I tried to copy the colour scheme from the cover of the Space Wolves saga books.
