Iron Talons

Geneseed: Imperial records list the Iron Talons as an Ultramarines successor, but the Iron Talons correctly venerate Ferrus Mannus as their Primarch. This was caused by the Fabricator-General of Mars secretly ordering a change in the geneseed, as not to alert other Imperial organizations.; It is uncertain how the Iron Talons received this information
I'm not sure the Chapter needs to know about it's true heritage. What does it add to the Chapter? Suspicion that they aren't of Guilliman's geneseed might enhance the story more, I always find uncertainty adds a little spice. In fact I'm not sure that anyone ought to know, perhaps consider a reqrite where you hint at their IH-ness without saying it straight out.

If they know why would they keep it a secret? When did they find out? What happened when they found out? Was there any internal hassle or was everyone just cool with it? Are they indebted in some way to the AM, is that why they hide their true origins? Are they ashamed? Afraid of the Inquisition? Also the name is a bit of a giveaway, Iron (Iron Hands) Talon (Red Talons) and no way to associate the Chapter with such a name in it's formative years. If the Chapter knows perhaps the name was changed as a subtle sign of their changed allegiance...

Homeworld

The Iron Talons are as cold and relentless as the winds of their homeworld

To tell you the truth, I'm not sure why I wrote it like that originally; and now that I think about it, venerating the wrong Primarch is a nice little twist.

That is a very interesting idea! I wonder if it would turn any heads within the Inquisition.

I think Iron Talons is alright for an apparent Ultramarines successor, especially one of such a late founding, those Imperial bureaucrats run out of fresh ideas you know . As long as they are not named Sons of Ferrus, I think they'll be fine .

Where do they recruit from? How do they recruit? Who are the recruits? I think this is fairly important as the nature of the recruits will often influence the nature of the Chapter...
Considering the nature of their homeworld, they'll have to recruit from abroad like the DA, IF, BT, etc.

I have always had trouble with the recruiting process, mostly what a chapter does to test aspirants

Share a disdain with whom? Might wish to clarify if this is an internal Chapter matter or if their philosophy runs parallel to another Chapter or Imperial group...

Probably the Imperial Guard.... and Tau.... I think I'll rewrite it as an individual chapter thing, there aren't any GW chapters I can think of who share that specific trait. (seige/shooting specialist sure, but none that don't enjoy a little hack'n'slash once in a while.)

Why are they met with hostility? If their disdain is kept private where is the problem? Are they arrogant? Do they constantly berate others for wastefulness? Are they unapproachable, refusing to concede that others may have a valid view or effective tactics?
I think I wrote the line in question incorrectly, I'll get it when I rewrite.
The idea of a large Librarium and a large Forge seems a little OTT. Psykers might be a powerful aid to the Chapter but I think the focus ought to be on one or the other and logically the focus should be on the Forge.

I don't mean to say the Librarium is excessively large, strong, or even a major focus of the chapter. The chapter's ideology just generally follows the same principles of the Librarium, so it's recieved a little more support than some chapters. I think the 'small' ideological change that sees them as useful, instead of guarded trust is significant. This should have been clarified originally though.

Why cut Chaplains out? Why not have them specialise in the study of battle rather than faith? Why not alter the role of Chaplain to that of a walking library of battleplans and strategies?

I'm pretty sure that's the role of captains and commanders though. Chaplains have an important role within the chapter, assuring the spiritual health of their brethren, but I don't think it makes them optimal battlefield commanders (they are leaders of a sort, but commanding takes a different sort of skill). It can be looked at another way, if Chaplains do not command as such they can attend to their other duties more fully. I think I'm going make them more solemn 'steel the resolve', rather than getting the troops all fired up (which the Iron Talons wouldn't be prone to doing anyways).

Much thanks SCC! I hope to have a more fleshed out version in a few days (with additional help from the B+C ;p)
