WIP Deathguard Daemon Prince

Doghouse

Thanks guys! :)

Now the big question has to be do I convert this Landraider I've been working on for my Dark Angels into a mobile chaos shrine/fortress? It's just a matter of taking off the Imperial icons and adding nurgle/chaos emblems and stuff. Or should I use something else for heavy support like converted Defilers?

Rice: I know what you mean but I want to keep their heraldry Imperial looking as it's a symbol of their chapter's identity and shows their roots.

Technically, Manticores have a humanish face (though with a huge amount of scary teeth), with the mane and body of a lion, and the tail of a scorpion (variantions like the GW fantasy version also have wings).

Just thought I'd add that tidbit for your Chapter Symbol work...

Btw what's the Daemon Prince's profile? (what Daemon gifts etc does he have, what is his statline like?)

Oh and on the Landraider issue, the Defiler is more common place amongst the original Traitor Legions, and probably would be rare in newer Traitor forces (I'd think you'd have to be an ally of Abaddon or an ally of one of his allies to have access/be able to make one). So the Landraider may be a better choice for your Traitor forces than a Defiler from a fluff perspective.

Nooooooooooo......... ;)

That land raider is a classic, it'd be a shame to lose it to chaos.

What about a new creation instead? Perhaps something tracked, maybe a roller on the front or perhaps something like the FW battlewagon:( http://www.forgeworld.co.uk/acatalog/QUATE...RE_ORKS_21.html ), the shape not the actual model BTW. Maybe have a recess in the middle for a goo tank/store or something? maybe have it power a chaosy gun of some kind, you could use all manner of clear piping and painting techniques for it, maybe even use that water effect stuff with a green/brown wash on top? call it a LR ot even a tracked defiler tank thing.

Perhaps have a look at the WFB and old epic 40,000 (if you have the books) artwork/rules for big chaos stuff, that could be fitted to the standard DG rules to be land raiders.

FireHawk: Ok I'll use the landraider as a last resort before turning it into a plague tower. I'm thinking about using just walkers now so I'll wait till then.

Not to sure about this idea so I thought I'd run it past you guys and see what you think. I've been working on the gifts for this guy and the idea of daemonic flight for this model is just too tempting to pass up.

I thought about adding wings but it'd mean I have to spend more money than I originally intended (the only new purchase I've made so far for this army is the giant and I hope to keep it that way). So I've knocked together a jump pack out of bits, I'll nurglefy it later but is it too much?

Since I'm doing this army as a traitor chapter now I don't need to worry about the technology restrictions of the old Legions or doing them over the top nurgle style but not sure if it works.

Wow all i have to say is that looks killer. I would go with the jump pack the thing is huge and it would put a nasty image in your opponents head to see that monstrosity come flying! there way. i say go with it i looks sweet. If you can try and model some flames comming out of it. If it doesnt look to bad with the flames that is :P

i like the dreadnought especialy the front gs work

whats the things on the dreadnoughts back from i never seen it before

i like the prince it is an amazing idea, i love it :devil: , he looks cool

the jump pack i think looks nice but i think it looks a bit plain compaired to the legs

the only thing the jump pack needs is some marks and stuff like that to it so the jump pack looks similar to the legs

i cant wait to see it fully painted and finished

Demonc flight on that monster just seems ... unnecessary? With those defiler legs, he's already ideally set up to have Demonic Speed, which is equally good. But hey, it is a nifty looking jump pack... I could see picnhing the idea to use on a smaller model w/ d flight.

The Deamon Prince stats almost seem insufucient for the guy;s massiveness. Have you got the rules for the Giant Spined Chaos Beast? Those might work pretty well for him!

I'm with Lord Humongous on this. Not saying the jump pack don't look cool...coz it does. Just saying maybe he doesn't need it? I dunno, its your model anyway, if you like it, use it!

Not sold on the idea of the mobile shrine, I thought it looked better with your Dark Angels which you seem to have forgotten :(

That Dread is one of the best I've seen, I just cant get over your GS-fu, its amazing!! I would love to see more of this beast, (I think its better than the Deamon :blink: )

Keep it up, and get them painted!!

Cheers guys!

I think the jump pack is a love it or hate it kind of thing. I will add more to the base of the main tube to make it look more chaos and add some chaos bits and pieces as well. I picture him jumping across the battlefield like a giant flea, it's a pure psychological piece of work and a chance to let my imagination run riot..

Trouble with the cavalry upgrade is that he is then subject to fleet of foot which is a little more random than I'd like. The jump pack gives him a chance to close on the enemy and unleash his frightening amount of attacks...Manreaper backed up by Nurgle's rot is nasty stuff. Gives me nightmares and I'm going to be the one using him. :)

Just started basecoating this guy.

Quick update...

I'm working the green up to a more catachan green colour and have some neat tricks lined up for the eyeball and rust on the armour. Still ahve to darken the rotted areas of the armour yet.

Lord Humongous: Yeah I can see where you are coming from but with the daemonic gifts he's something like strength six, toughness six, four wounds with a two plus save. I'm thinking about giving him some chaos hounds to boost his close combat ability even further.

captain Raiun: I will be returning to the DA sometime soon hopefully. :)

Personally, not a big fan of the jump pack on the demon prince, and I even think that speed may be better for him.

Speed can be as fast, and even sometimes faster than a jump pack, and with those legs...

Other than that, great job on everything! I really like the models, and the paint jobs are great.

Ok, now im convinced, that Dreads miles better than the DP (to me anyway)!!

How did you do the scratches/wounds/cuts/whatever they are? I suspect some kind of heat something, but not sure. It looks good. :devil:

Glad to hear you're going back to the DA soon, whats going on with the mobile shrine thingumy then?

cheers

I'm guessing this is your idea of a setup

WS = 6

BS = 3

S = 6

T = 6 (5 for instant death purposes according to the rules of Resilience)

W = 4

I = 5

A = 3

Ld = 10

Sv = 3

Stature

Essence

Resilience

Strength

Flight

Armour

= 90pts

(flight instead of speed means he loses the chance to take Rune which would of made him immune to instant death).

Manreaper

Mark of Nurgle

Nurgle's Rot

= 40pts

Total = 190pts

Unfortunetly you can't afford the two hounds, you can afford one but not two (you could have two with speed rather than flight).

The problem I see with this setup, is the fact that a strength ten weapon would turn your DP to mush (remember resilience doesn't count for instant death perposes).

I would of personally went with either Rune or Aura to prevent against that (Rune while expensive is the best choice though it does limit you, while aura gives you at least a chance not to go squish like a giant flea...).

Now I know this is the modeling forum not the rules one, but the points above point out why from a rule prespective Flight, and or armour may not be the best choice modelwise when referenced to gameplay.
