In early 2003 I had just finished an army of a certain xenos race that shall not be named on this forum. The said army was numberous and greenskinned and in the end I was somewhat frustrated with the fact that I had to paint below my level in order to complete the army in time. Then I statred wondering how well I could actually paint an army without any time limits. So I decided to try. I would let each model take as long as I felt it needed and use my other armies to play on tournaments in the meantime.
At the time, NMM was something new and cool and I decided I wanted to try it on the army... Not a good idea. I learned a lot from it but one thing was that NMM on an entire army is way too time-consuming. The army took about two years to finish, but I am very pleased with the end reslut. And it won "Best painted" on all the major torunaments in Sweden in 2005, something never before accomplished by any other army, so I guess other people liked it as well. And now I thought I would share it with the people on B&C! Since I feel that the army require quite a lot of pictures for each unit I will not post all at once, but rather a few each week in order to conserve and control my bandwidth usage somewhat. I hope this is OK and doesn't break any forum rules. So, lets start with... PART I - HQ AND ELITES First a bit of background. The moment I opened the 2nd ed rulebook and saw a picture of the original Noise marine model (the one with an electric guitar with an underslung bolter) I though "Wow! That's so cool!". Time passed and I collected and painted a few armies. GW released two editions of new noise marines and with each edition the guitar image moved further away. Í had to do something about. I needed to bring the guitars and the heavy metal back in the Noise marines! Eddie - Daemon prince of Slaanesh ![]() That Eddie should lead the army was obvious. What could be more iconic? People tend to ask quite a lot about the parts it is made of so I guess I'll tell it before you ask. The legs are from one of the Albion giants, the torso and the arms are from a Keeper of secrets (allthough most of the torso is covered with green stuff) and the wings are from the old zombie dragon. The head is entirely scratch built and the jeans are made with green stuff. The Kings of metal - Chosen of Slaanesh ![]() I wanted to include a unit of chosen so that I could model a unit of highly individual characters. In game terms it is not cost-effective at all, but I like it. ![]() A doom siren and a champion. ![]() Two "normal" chosen marines. ![]() A sorcerer and a resurrected spirit of a Chaos hound. ![]() The icon bearer. The banner is painted to look like the cover of the Manowar album "The Triumph of Steel". The text on the back of the banner is a quote from the song "Hail and kill" and says "Power and dominion are taken by the will, by divine right hail and kill!" Rhino tour bus ![]() Rhino tour bus with Warp amp, Daemonic rune (bonus points to the one who can identify the rune), extra armour and smoke. ![]() The top hatch of the rhino. The best freehand I had ever painted at the time (and possibly still). A slightly modified version of the cover of the Manowar album "Kings of metal". ![]() The sides of the rhino. Since this unit is quite Manowar-inspired I decided to draw a Noise marine-version of their logo. And of course the tour name, the "Imperatice universe tour M41". And tour dates. ![]() The interior of the rhino. Not the best picture but you get the point... Next week I'll post some of the troops. And I promise more Iron maiden and less Manowar... |

YESSS! That's the coolest! Great idea and great execution! I like both Maiden and Manowar, so no problem with that. Looking forward to see the maiden-troops. is there any chance for a "trooper"-style trooper? Or a "fear of the dark" -sorcerer? Whatabout a "lost in time"-champion?

Very nice!
Slaanesh is happy. -------------------- Who is Refuse? Refuse is a MODERATI CEDO. He helped run the original B&C AoD, and other AoDs. He ran the Chaos AoD and the Space Hulk AoD. All this in addition to creating the EC.net (image to the left). ![]() QUOTE (Lord_Caerolion on why many chaos players dislike the "soul" of the 4.0 Chaos codex.) Seriously, if you tried telling Space Wolves, or any of the other Loyalist Chapters that they can still have an army if they lose their codex, they just have to paint them that way, you'd be hanged. The sole root of the problem for many of us is that now are are just a paint scheme, when before we were so much more. |
