Plastic Myrmidon Destructor Host
StratoKhan replied to Lord Marshal's topic in + NEWS, RUMORS, AND BOARD ANNOUNCEMENTS +
I really like these. Very imposing and I don’t mind the disparity between the size of the head and body, to me it reads as normal baseline humans with normal-sized human heads who have then upgraded themselves with massively augmented exoskeletons, tons of grafted muscles, etc. - a functional approach where the head being enlarged wouldn’t serve a purpose. So that feels Mechanicum to me. Another comment. These are plastic so there will be a lot of potential to kitbash these for those who are so inclined. And the plastic should make it easier. Regarding the poses - the resin models were 3 unique bodies/poses as well, so it’s a net neutral change in that regard. Going further, it doesn’t feel right to deploy the lack of poses as a criticism for these specific models. The new plastic infantry kits are all pose-limited to some degree. It’s just a recurring issue throughout the entire model range. In that, HH design team are at least being consistent. Sadly… -
Whenever I’ve seen the Baneblade etc in Imperial Guard colours it hasn’t convinced me that it could look ‘space marine’ enough but seeing your painted model I might amend my opinion, the new sponson also helps a lot!

Welcome Vamp, there’s some good guides that the community here has produced, which should help you.

About use of MKs in units
StratoKhan replied to Agramar_The_Luna_Wolf's topic in + AGE OF DARKNESS +
I like mixed units, I’m working on a MKII, III, IV and V tactical squad for Death Guard. -
Welcome! Better late than never to smart the hobby :) Sometimes I think about the wealth and breadth of hobby resources that I didn’t have when I started out and I feel pretty good about how newcomers to the hobby get supported. there’s painting tutorial videos, battle reports, fanzines, kickstarters, so much great stuff. Hope you can find some of that support at BnC as well, I also don’t love the Discord communities and find this place more helpful. Discord is fine but too many updates become really overwhelming especially if the community is too big.

Heresy Era is a great channel, good to hear that 3.0 content is coming. Some of the latest videos they’ve put out have better production values than some WH+ stuff! (kind of joking, kind of not) I really miss the30kchannel (btw - although no longer posting, that channel’s archive is huge and still available on YouTube and worth a watch) but Heresy Era is a worthy successor! And the content they put out is a mix of narrative, batrep, but also painting tutorials, which is good for beginners.

Friendly fire in GW´s sci-fi games
StratoKhan replied to Deus_Ex_Machina's topic in + AMICUS AEDES +
These are the kind of cool ideas that nonetheless would add a lot of admin to the game. As 40k and other GW are currently designed, with multiple units of anywhere from 5-20 or even more models, potentially armed with ranged weapons needing to make dice rolls to hit, working out friendly fire on top of that would struggle to offer a return on investment imo (as in, time invested vs. fun outcome) I think at this point developing new game system that incorporates friendly fire into its mechanics would probably be easier than retrofitting a GW game. -
Welcome! Looking forward to seeing your ideas :)

Welcome back, my account was also dormant for a while due to lack of password, and when it was time to come back I was quite impressed by how Tyler and team helped me regain access. It’s a small thing but very helpful. Hope to see some of your work soon, are you doing anything in AT/Imperialis scale?

What if 40K had good guys?
StratoKhan replied to Inquisitor_Lensoven's topic in + AGE OF THE IMPERIUM +
Interesting insight into your thought process and the way you interpret source material, but beyond that, there are a lot of blanks/assumptions you are filling in with your own personal takes. And I think I hadn’t quite appreciated what your exact position was. Gotta say though, I wasn’t expecting you to come out and say in your follow-up that actually the 40k humans are the only ones who are good, and that their genocides and enslavement of enemies are the only justified and morally good ones, vs. those really bad aliens that were just plain evil when they did the same things. PS - part of your response seemed a bit confrontational in style. I’m just reading your other comments and responses and trying to have a discussion on the points that interest me , I’ll try to keep it low-temp and hope you will do the same. -
What if 40K had good guys?
StratoKhan replied to Inquisitor_Lensoven's topic in + AGE OF THE IMPERIUM +
I had this really good cake, and I ate it, it’s gone now. The solution is to never eat cake again. btw considering that from the existing GW sources we have, we know very little about pre-GC human society, and even less about pre-Age of Strife human societies, it’s very hard to draw any clear conclusions - there is a distinct lack of information so saying the alternatives failed is assigning your own values/criteria to this. I would say there is nothing undermining the assumption that the Imperium too, would have failed and splintered if it had existed pre-Age of Strife, and been put through the birth scream of a Chaos God. In our own human history, civilisations have declined or failed due to things like disappearance of water sources, invasion, earthquakes, mass nomadic migration etc. It doesn’t really mean that their particular way of governing society was bad or less good. I would argue it’s just a consequence of no society being able to face the vast and ever changing array of challenges forever. Your argument seems to boil down to the fact that the Imperium is good because they’re the ones in charge now. So whatever new human empire or collection of empires that comes along next to replace it, are going to be the next ‘good guys’. And the Imperium would be the next attempt that ‘fails hard’, to quote from you. It just seems so utilitarian as a position that ironically there’s nothing distinguishing your stance from that of an actual in-40k universe character. -
