  1. Yeah! I feel the best thing about TOW is the models coming back.. I re-read the TOW-rulebook yesterday and the rules are totally okay, not as good as 6th Ed IMHO (too many special rules pushed in because reasons for once thing) - but it gets problematic, subjectively, when you get to Army Selection and how generous it is. For me.. it is a little sad it killed some 6th Ed communities as too many jump to that polished turd because everyone else seems too. Too many sheep. I want to do some 4th Ed 40k armies too. Might get some old buddies to play but totally okay with making a couple of house armies too. That Facebook-group felt very inspirational last time i checked.. Were not many 4th Ed battle reports on You Tube last time i checked, sadly. Would have been fun to be in a situation to start one and get some games going with nice armies and terrain. But sadly, years from being able to do that... I found Rogue Element Gaming when I started to re-paint my O&Gs (a small Mordheim warband at that point) - and it was a huge inspiration.. Would be nice to be a source of inspiration to others like that with 4th Ed content for 40k.. I don´t mind 3rd Ed either but 4th Ed felt a little more.. mature? The early days with Rhino Rushes and sweeping advances through half the army still give me PTSD (and i was playing Blood Angels then and being the culprit!). 4th Ed did fix alot that was - weird. The revisions did too so 3 rd Ed was good at the end iirc.. But the 4th Ed rulebook also felt.. Very nice. It was a massive step-up from the 3rd Ed in inspiration for everything. The Kill Team rules and army displays and counters etc.
  2. 6th Ed is called the King of Editions for a reason.. 7th Ed added some good things but also.. Some bad. The army books are, horrible.. But the move to five models for a rank was just a small start on that massive greed move in 8th Ed that killed the game.. Forcing you to buy much more models. Gav Thorpe seemed to command the 6th Ed, taking over from tuomas excellent work on the rulebook. Along with Alessio they seemed to treat the game with love during the entire period, dropping good books and campaigns. The US Studio´s General´s Compendium being one as well. It´s not just whinging about newer editions for both WHFB and 40k.. GW has always been greedy but it has become worse and more cynical after those. Even MORE driven by nerfing stuff to sell others or just changing for changis sake - ie to sell more. Nah nah! I mean he struggled with his army at the begiining there! Oh I like both the old 40k as well as that WHFB slots system. I did not when it was introduced but I do now. Both have pros and cons 8thinking about percentages here, i don´t know current 4+k stuff) Yeah Horus Heresy seems pretty alright.. Might give it a go.. Atleast they have templates there.. I was about to join up with 8th Ed but the million dice, then some BS re-roll to hit and some other BS to wound and then some other BS to armour saves.. Just made me feel, what is the point? You have a million shots, lemme remove that many models.. Nonsense.. Seems a bit better now but....
  3. Wow, that much? I felt the same and wondered if I had become lazy too.. And I did just scratch the surface of 8th Ed etc.. trying to get into it. Yeah, it is real nice if it is a good one. All is there! One reason i love WHFB 6th Ed. But far from the only reason.. Well, same for 4th Ed 40k really! Yupp - there was a few such things in 3rd Ed. For monsters too iirc? Vradchuk or something? :D Great one too. Fat Bloke really seems like a nice guy. had a bit of a roguh time there but he soldiered on and added! Love that. Mhm! it is needed. And hard caps.. been trying to say that in some The old World groups.. in 6th Ed you could have 2 Gyrocopters at 2000p... That is it! Now, as many as the points allow on 25%.. Rare stuff ain´t rare anymore then.. it just gets silly and all the weirdos min-max som BS not even close to any background.. To me it is just silly. Yeah that stuff with taking this guy and this support unit becomes Troops is dumb.. Too often a no-brainer. No hard choices, take all you want, min Troops and say it is boring with troops, like the "cool" kids.. /Rant..
  4. Were there crap ones?? Yeah, it is ncie to check them now and then.. Very cliche but that first A Tale of Four Gamers really started me on WHFB as well. it worked.. I did not fully commit until 6th Ed dropped but I got some stuff (Wood Elves book and some models) after that.. The battle Reports for 6th Ed WHFB release are probably still my favs. Two, Orcs 6 Goblins, Empire, green mat, Citadell trees.. Well apart from the 2nd Ed 40k ones with Space Wolves. The late RT one that was in the Codex Space Wolves as well as the Blood Angels vs Orks when 2nd Ed dropped -with Tycho.. Need a cup of coffee and check some again..
  5. Yeah. My club had a subscription so read the ones around, the first i remember is WD 156. But it was not until 193 I bought my own as it was then availble in a news agent in my small town.. Did not get them every month but tried to. Soon after a small computer games store stocked GW and then it was easier - and cheaper.. There are still articles i have not read in them..
  6. It is nice to check through the old White Dwarfs, for sure.. Do that quite often, that "era" from 250 to 300 is full of nice stuff. There is great stuff before too but I think that time was extra nice overall with what was going on game-wise, for me. Cursed Founding, that´s the article with those dudes with claws on their arms right?
  7. Yeah.. One of my buddies had a Land Raider in 2nd Ed, he found a couple and restored one and we played soccer with one that had lost all the weapons.. It did not break though. It was not that tough in 2nd Ed.. Hull was AV 22 iirc. Lascannons had 9 plus 3D6 (no glancing). Penning meant bad things.. but it was shooty.. And you had to shoot the closest target (in this case closest vehicle). Carnifex? Ultra tough.. Could upgrade with extra toughness and Inv save iirc, when the Codex dropped. 10 wounds.. Lascannon did 2D6. Multi-melta did 2D12 but had less negative save modifier. We usually spammed Asscannon-fire on it.. D10 wounds per hit that went through and with a couple, it did sooner or later.. It could be dealt with, like tied up - but point being, yeah. Much tougher than Land Raiders IMHO.. 3rd/4th was.. More interesting in many ways though, the expanded background, models, support.. Great times.. I had some "periods". Early with this gang.. Then later during 4th a very active and mature group actually playing every week. Never played so much as then even though I played alot during 2nd Ed.. part of the nostalgia, many memories. but I think it was a good period too.
  8. Yeah, I agree.. I don´t like the feel now and it is not (just) me getting older and grumpier.. There was min-maxing and excessive Meta-search back then. But not as much, thanks to less internet perhaps.. Not sure. I did pretty good lists and played to win (more then than now) - but i also did not compromise much on background (always had full Packs of Grey Hunters from my 2nd Ed days for example). To me, it was a ncier time.. And it is not just nostalgia and that stuff. The game has changed as have the community. It never bothered me too much with vehicles.. I mean it did, but i came from 2nd Ed and it was basically as violent then. But suddenly you could use transports.. In 2nd Ed you screened vehicles with other vehicles 8being closer9, auto-launchers with Blind Grenades, could, help - but many AT-weapons were mobile (I used Land Speeders). It was just different and you got used to it. We also used, alot of terrain, and much of it area like forests. But maybe it is better with wounds? I am curious now - never played with veicles with wounds as I basically left 40k when 5th Ed dropped. Playing.. You absolutely can!
  9. I felt since 3rd Ed that Wraithlords were just superior in survivability over Dreadnoughts, no? Gav Thorpe defended Wraithlord in the Eldar Designer´s note (Wd 236 or so) that a heavy bolter could hurt it on 6s (and it got a save) while Dreadnoughts could not be. But why would you waste precious heavy bolter shots on such low odds? Whatever is best - that period with some "Dreadnoughts" have AV and others wounds was.. Not nice in my humble opinion..
  10. Sounds like some Chaos Space marines/Traitor place? Yeah.. I feel that way about most places, many Discord servers too. Or the internet as a whole..
  11. I think you count if you feel like you count.. That´s a good point, mobile phona compability.. I use my phone to call, and use those Apps I am "forced" to. So kidna forget that.. Sitting by my stationary, huge screen computer.. I am probably ina minority so - totally understand that many others use phones and so on.. makes sense, sadly.
  12. Not recent editions but... My 3rd Ed74th Ed Wolf Guard Bodyguard on Bikes. I made four, two with power fists anb bolt pistol & two with a lightning claw. Expensive and 1W so i expected very little but the models were so cool I had to use them. And they did surprisingly good - having a character along them of course helped. And Runic Charms helped too.. Sometimes used Wolf Tooth Necklaces too. My expectations were that they would be too few and too expensive but they often did decently, hitting like a brick. Was often a hard choice between them and a Wolf Guard Terminator Pack.. (ass cannon, a chain fist, single lightning claws and combi-melta or combi- flamers or combi-plasmas. pretty tooled up too..)
  13. Yeah for me that is not too bad, even four hours. Used to know stats and wargear and probably still does! But nice to double-check to be sure.. Same with the rules really but need more checking up for less commonly used ones. Yeah, nice sum up I think. Nice point about playing decently often it does not matter that much about win or lose. But i have stopped caring alot anyways.. Playing mostly greenskins makes it feel even less important, it is still fun just caising mayhem and adding some ncie little fun happeings to their long and "glorious" history.. yeah. Kinda feel the same. 99% is modelling, painting and writing/reading stuff, or so it feels.. Wish i could play more. But it feels very special and extra fun when it happens....
  14. Yeah, used "correctly", it is really fun. The rules live on, I mean if you don´t actually play them, in Shadow War Armageddon too (Necromunda rules kidna but..). Which is not a bad little skirmish game. Apart from a lackluster campaign maybe. Those complaining it took too long or were too complicated.. I don´t agree. 1500p gave pretty decent forces that took about as long as was fun. I played on weekends, took the afternoon-evening on some sundays and met up with my friends in the local club and set up who met who. Then afterwards, mCD and some coffee and apple pie.. Great times. I want games to feel special too, not play several times a week..
  15. 4th Ed is in my humble opinions the best.. I started when 2nd Ed dropped and had a blast. I would still want to play more of it but it needs.. players to not abuse it. And not too large forces. I had trouble adjusting to 3rd Ed and was not really happy until I got my Codex: Space Wolves but actually enjoyed it alot then and before too. But 4th Ed was a happy time, Peak 40k for me.. More new and ncie players around and regular play. never played as regular as then i think. And the feel, the support in White Dwarf felt real good. Same as for 6th Ed WHFB at the same time for me.. There is a good Facebook group for 4th Ed. Need a link? I am not on FB too often but i check it when i do..
