I, Ming, rise to the challenge of From Rage to Salvation and vow to complete one Furioso Dreadnaught and a unit of 10 Death Company Marines on or before November 30th, 2015. Should I bring honour to the Blood Angels 5th Company I will proudly wear the IRATUS DOMINUS badge; should I fail I will display the CARCERES IRA on my chest as a reminder of my shame. Well...this may get me out of my current funk...

I started a few weeks ago with a 8-marine DC unit, now cut back to 6. They have chopped through: Kahn and his bike squad A Chapter Master on a bike A (pre-damaged) knight But I'm still working on them. Its hard to get the tactics just right!

See the CrossRoad games website for details on Standish Standoff #4! Coming soon in November! The website has just a few slots remaining, but more may be added if there is demand for more. Shirt, lunch, swag included in entry fee. There will also be non-40K events as well (different signups). Should be an awesome Maine gaming weekend!

Yes, cruising speed. 12 inch movement. 5+ save (or is it 4+, since it went cruising...gak...need to bring my rulebook to work....) Good part is, as a fast vehicle, a landpeeder deep strikes and can still fire its 2 weapons as if it was at combat speed...since it is a fast vehicle. Some day a drop pod will be classed as ... fast....

Vulkan lists gained alot - twin linked flamers in tac squads are awesome in overwatch, twin linked meltas are great, thunderhammers still awesome. 6th edition has created a few major conundrums for codex SM players that require tactical adjustments: (1) Enemy flyers - there are ways to deal with them (bring your own flyer or an Aegis/quad gun or look to twin link massed high-S fire through some mechanism to increase chance to hit) (2) Infantry cannot charge out of non-assault vehicles (either bring assault vehicles, or weather the one-turn dismount penalty, or bring jump pack assault marines or similar tactical adjustments, or use optimal spacing and cover to go on foot) (3) Horde opponents - the opposite of meched opponents (every anti-tank weapon you bring impacts your ability to pound hordes)

Arjac's Hammer, Singing Spear, and OMG pistols
Ming replied to Seahawk's topic in + WARHAMMER 40,000 GAME +
I still think in the case of Arjac's hammer you are thinking too deeply and ending up with unintended problems. "Some weapons can be used in different ways, representing different power settings or types of ammo. Some weapons can be used in combat as well as shooting. Where this is the case, there will be a separate line in the weapon's profile for each, and you can choose which to use each turn." Take the original quote (I'm assuming it is verbatim from the BRB where you posted it from). To me the bigger issue is the phrase "in combat as well as shooting". When is shooting not combat? In what phase does "combat" occur? Is shooting only at a target range, while "combat" is what you do in "Battle"? Its just crazy. The rule or wording just points out that there are "some" weapons that can be used in both the shooting as well as assault phase. Their rules specific to that weapon will tell you if it is allowable. IIRR Arjac's hammer is a unique throwable weapon that can be used as a thunder hammer-like weapon in assault, as defined in the SW codex. Being unique, it has its own rules. The space wolf codex does not have either/or restrictions IIRR. With special codex rules trumping BRB, I defer to the codex for this one. As for the thread also poking along at pistols, a pistol has the same basic stats in the game as a "chainsword" when it comes to assault. They just lumped everything together. About the only time it might make sense is you may be able to choose in an assault phase to use your pistol instead of, say, a power sword, to try to kill less of your opponent's models (maybe as a tactic to "stay" in assault until his turn). Sidebar - Remember when 6th was being playtested. There was the original concept that pistols would be a weapon in the assault phase, using their weapon S and AP (some of us were excited about using plasma pistols in assaults for that reason, making a PP/CS armed sergeant very sweet, based on rules having as many as 4 PP shot requivs in a player's assault turn), similar to the early days of 40K. In the end, that experimental section was dropped, and of course plasma pistol sales dropped...factories were closed, and munitiorum adepts were reassigned. Some of the wording may be a artifact of those rules experiments.
