Thanks for the replies. I'm not the best painter, but I like putting little touches into my armies to make them unique. For example, the brother captain is hoisting up a bloodthirster head - since this is the 7th brotherhood, he is Darig Tegvar, a survivor of Armageddon. Gamewise he gets the Cuirass of Sacrifice to represent his longevity amd ability to survive. I also gave him one of the original 1st ed Grey Knight nemesis swords. Another thing I did was magnetise my doomglaive so it fits underneath my raven;

I've just finished updating my army for 8th edition. It's supposed to represent the 7th Brotherhood, and includes a GM (in DK harness), a captain, champion and brotherhood ancient. The whole thing is exactly 150 power; Battalion: Draigo GMDK Captain Brotherhood Ancient 5 Termies 10 strikes (halberds) 5 strikes (swords) 5 strikes (falchions) DK Raven Vanguard; Champion Apothecary 3 Paladins Doomglaive Vanguard; Malleus Inquisitor 6 x 1 Henchmen As you can see its not the most competitive list, but it is fun to play and I think is a fluffy representation of a brotherhood (with the remainder of the brotherhood split up across the galaxy). Vehicles aside, everything is metal, converted and has a cinematic effect pinned to their gun and a resin base. The whole army; Driago; Grand Master Dreadknight; Malleus Inquisitor & henchmen; Strike Cruiser (used as objective in games to represent a teleport pickup point or exterminatus beacon or something);

I've updated this army for 8th edition. I added Draigo, a grandmaster dreadknight, a doomglaive, brother champ, a bunch of strike squads and the storm raven. Its now sitting at 2500pts. The whole army; Driago; Grand Master Dreadknight; Malleus Inquisitor & henchmen; Strike Cruiser (used as objective in games to represent a teleport pickup point or exterminatus beacon or something);

For what its worth, i only field a single gmdk in a game, simply because there is only one in a company, and my gk are the 7th company.
-
If I have the following list; Patrol detachment; Malleus Inquisitor: PL5 Brother Champion: PL6 Ven dreadnought: PL9 10 Strikes:PL14 Stormraven: PL15 Total - 50 power Can I use Grey Knight strategems (and inquisition ones when they come out), or do I need a Grey Knight only detachment?

Grey Knights taking on Custodes (the 'other' special guys)
skarn replied to Prot's topic in + GREY KNIGHTS +
The CC phase is interesting, the custodes will murder anything they charge aside from draigo and gmdk, but charging gk are a real threat to custodes too. Ive played custodes 3 times now and in each game the gk have punched well above their points value in CC. I'd go as far to say that gk vs ac games will usually be centred around who can facilitate the best charges.- 7 replies

I have cadians, but the idea of a vanguard with marbo (dutch), platoon commander (Dillon), Harker (blain), platoon command (hawkins, poncho, mac and billy) and a Valkyrie (with a bluetooth speaker inside blaring Long Tall Sally) is super tempting.....

What about an army wide rule for gk only detachments, prognosis: every time your opponent uses a strategem, on a 5+, the gk player may use a gk strategem with the same CP cost in the following turn for free.

All of this is good, but gw isnt going to rerelease the gk codex so soon, nor are they going to pyt 3 pages of errata for a single army in an faq. What they may do however is change a single rule;ie, get rid of the single wound smite. All units have access to full smite, including d6 wounds if they roll high enough. Damage vs daemons that is less than 3 counts as 3. Bro captains double the range out to 36", making them a legit choice. That single change would go a tremendously long way to making us viable as an army.
-
I think perhaps that GW knows full well that GK aren't good, and that they aren't supposed to be. GK primaris are only a matter of time, and GW doesn't want people hanging onto the old models when the new ones are good to go.
-
Hurricane bolters are 10pts each for both us and SM. Surely we all knew CA was always going to be a way for GW to make sure the newest toys are the best value. Buzz lightyear marines are over 100pts cheaper per squad!

I really like these batreps you are putting up. As for the new nid book, its becoming more and more clear that GK are the weakest codex by a long shot. If we dont get significant points drops on almost every unit or full smite, we will soon be unplayable without allies - every win I've had since the ig and eldar books is a scrappy hard fought thing, even when I've had really good luck or played a lot better than my opponent. Ive also lost quite a few games by just having expensive models with horrendous efficiency.

The easy fix for gk is to simply get rid of baby smite. With the proliferation of psyker heavy armies about, there is no way that gk units doing smite normally would break the game. It should be d3 damage, 3 vs daemons.
