  1. “And here I stand, again. Thrice blessed by the grandfather. I will see the walls fall again. I will see the sons of the storm fall. And we shall enjoy it. Won’t we Ulceraxis?” Kalgaro Thrice-born. Former seige master of the XIV legion. Struck down at the Lions Gate, and resurrected from the plague soaked ruins of Holy Terra. Now proceeded by his herald, the plague bearer Ulceraxis he stalks the sons of the Khan across the stars. And that’s the Daemon Prince Kalgaro Thrice-born finished. I wanted to go properly grimdark, weathered, and as disgusting as I could with this. He started as a Deredeo dreadnought (thought it’d be appropriate for a siege master) and went crazy from there. Loved playing around with the Villany inks and other special effect stuff for the weathering. What’s everyone think? Disgusting enough?
  2. And my most recent (and mostly complete) character. Kalgaro Thrice-born, former Seige master of the XIV legion, daemon Prince of Nurgle i wanted to imagine what would happen to the twisted soul of Gremus Kalgaro after his “death” at the hands of the White scars at the lions gate spaceport. He would also become not only the first Nurgle miniature id painted but also my first foray into the Grimdark style. he’s about 90% done…
  3. Thirdly are a couple of WIPs first is the Palanite enforcer Prowler class Heavy pursuit vehicle. given the nature of the underhive I felt the Palanites would have a heavier rapid response vehicle that could handle both the hive and the ashwastes.
  4. My second is a duel scene I’ve had ideas about for a while, and this gave me a chance to experiment with weathering and different textures. “You Shall Not Pass” and Underhive juve against a piloted ambot. I wanted the ambiguity of not knowing who was the attacker and who was defending.
  5. There are many times that a big project can be overwhelming and I can feel like I’m either getting bored or burnt out. So, when I feel it’s that time I pick up something different, usually a character conversion, something with a story to it. and now this is where I’m going to post each as I work on them, as well as the ones I’ve completed. firstly a necromunda bounty hunter, Kazarto Van Sharpe, former palanite enforcer and now hunting the criminals of the ashwastes.
  6. still more ideas and units to realise…..got plans for a Lictor, gargoyles, Hive guard and even Deathleaper….
  7. as it’s time for Armies on Parade again I decided to set up the whole Mining Clan for my entry. It’s amazing how far it’s come in 3 years, and what started as a “hmm….i wonder if that’d work?” and is now over 4.5k points.
  8. “The Praefector class command and control suit is used on many of the Starborn Mining Clan’s larger operations. Based on the STC of the Mechanicus Thanatar it was rediscovered during mining operations on Eridani IV in late M39 and passed to the infected forgeworld Forendis who quickly adapted it and began production. Equipped with a powerful comms array complete with high level Mechanicus command and override codes, the Primus piloting has an unparalleled overview and control of any field the suit is deployed in.” And with that the Swarmlord for the Starborn mining clan is finished. Initial experiments with clear resin for the cockpit failed (badly!) so I ended up using some very thin plastic (and I’m quite happy with how the glue fumes have made it looked scratched and worn to go with the rest of the look)
  9. WIP update. The Swarmlord now has some paint on him. unfortunately the resin experiments failed (the dome acted like a magnifying lens rather than a screen) so I built a roll cage for the primus. just waiting for an Invictor Warsuit flamer to arrive so I can swap out the melta barrels.
  10. The Toxotide pattern Arvus is a fire fighting variant of the classic Arvus Lighter. The crew compartment is replaced with a tank for the fire suppression system, and a chin turret with 2 dispersion nozzles added. There are also wing extensions that improve the manoeuvrability of the aircraft allowing it to tackle fires both outside and inside the main structure of the Hive. This unit (Designated Dragon C-17) was supplied to the Departmento Munitorium of Talmtes Secundus in late 977m38 and was reported downed in action along with 3 other units during the uprising of St. Rochete. It came into the hands of the Starborn Mining Clan shortly after and was refitted for a more “aggresssive” role. The dispersion nozzles were replaced with flame units and the armament was upgraded with a pair of hunter-killer missiles liberated from the Talmtes Secundus PDF garrison. That’s the counts-as Hive Crone finished, and with it the Clan’s airforce. (Though I may still add some gargoyles). yes the right hand skid was slightly skew. I think I must’ve gone slightly bling to it after staring at the kit for so long building it! needless to say it’s much straighter now. next onto some experiments with clear resin for the Swarmlord
  11. Ive also been having some thoughts about a counts as Swarmlord. Some big 4 armed Primus piloted mech leading the clan into battle. then I saw the Thanatar kit….. and well…… Planning to recast the Thanatar’s head dome in clear resin so it fits like an aircraft canopy.
  12. Some more updates. built the counts as Hive Crone from another Arvus. Quite a bit of work to replace the crew compartment with a tank (made from a 150ml coke can), made a chin turret for the heavy flamers, 2 underwing hunter-killer missiles and added a T-tail and wing extensions with plasticard. the thought process was that the Dragonfly class Arvus was a fire fighting vehicle before being appropriated by the Clan and having the fire suppression system modified to represent the Hive Crone’s torrent weapon and Tentaclids.
  13. “Raptor D54 on final approach through waypoint Dervium. Request clearance for pad 9. The Lord Councillor does not like to be kept waiting” And that’s the counts-as Harpy finished. The Talmtes Pattern Arvus, uparmoured and up gunned and used as a VIP transport and armoured courier within the Talmtes System.
  14. Thanks mate. It’s an optical illusion, because if the way they’re mounted to the hull they’re definately parallel!
