    Rubbish, don't look.
  2. The guardsman is just following proper protocol. The sister's bolter is more valuable than the guardsman, so the guardsmen must go first to protect it. That's why guard infantry advances in front of guard armour. And earning armour wouldn't be crazy... By sister standards... I mean they do decide not to wear any when they've been naughty... And swap out the most holy bolter for a big chainsword...
  3. Well, they didn't want to make it too cheap, otherwise who would spam the normal knights?* *Remember all FW stuff is OP, including everything Mechanicus. Can anyone take a picture of a normal knight with a Warhound... I'm just wondering how big this thing is.
  4. Whatever background you choose you can break things up into a few groups. Peasants - Not really trained for war (although they might, I guess it depends on your world). Men At Arms/House Hold Guard - None noble 'warriors' who have some equipment and training. Knights/Samurai People with even fancier titles. Knights had horses, but assuming you don't want to restrict yourself to rough riders... transports could be the horses of the future. So command squads, and maybe veterans could be good choices for 'knights'. Give them carapace armour, they have it because they can afford to buy it. Fire arms may have been frowned on by the Samurai, but bows weren't. So don't worry about 'knights' having ranged weapons. I would also consider using artillery, especially FW stuff (not the models, the rules... you can use the models if you want), to represent seige equipment. Tanks could do this, but artillery is even slower. Krieg engineers could also represent sappers. Cyclopes is a remote-control petard. Commissars also feel like they could make good 'samurai'.
  5. I think it also depends on how you define your warband temporally as well as the nature of the warband itself. For example a Black Legion war band by its own nature is more likely to have cult troopers of Slaanesh and Khorne at the same time than a Khornate war band. Then on the Temporal aspect... when someone is making their war band... are they making the core of the war band with members who have been fighting together for 5,000 years or are they representing the forces in one battle or in a campaign. Maybe the forces represented aren't even of the same war band. If the first is the case then I would say it is very unlikely that Noise Marines would survive in a Khornate warband but it is feasible if they are just working together for various reasons for a shorter period of time. I think part of the problem when you get two groups arguing about 40K and with no side willing to give in is not that one side doesn't understand the b background but that they are interpreting the background from another point of view. The example above for example. If one person is looking at the long term structure of a war band and another at the short term structure... It is understandable that people would come up with two different answers. The same with legions, although this is more difficult. I personally believe that the legions still exist. The problem is I don't believe they exist as they did in 30K which is what everyone seems to assume and then shouts at you for when you say "that isn't very Y-legion-ish". I was going to use X-legion but I didn't want to cause any confusion :P. I believe a few of the legions are still pretty intact. Word Bearers, Iron Warriors and the Black Legion. Now the command structure of all the legions is different. The black legion has been totally rebuilt; they are no longer the Sons of Horus. The other two are different from each other but the issue really is that they don't have their primarchs (They are physically there but they are not leading the legions for a cause at the moment), the Word Bearers do seem to have some sort of central command but individuals Apostles also seem to have a lot of power to do what they want. The Iron warriors are split into at least two major camps and those camps themselves are split again, but they still see themselves as Iron Warriors and a leader who was strong enough could probably bring most of them back into line. The Alpha Legion... Who knows, for a Legion that has been reported destroyed more than once they seem to be doing alright. If they are scattered warband, a coherent body or a mix of the two... I couldn't say. Night Lords, I think these guys were only ever bound by their primarch, without him they have scattered following powerful individuals and their own desires. Thousand Sons... Have at least two major factions... When I say major, even combined they still probably number less than the Black Templars. Death Guard, again at least two factions. Both the World eaters and the Emperor's children are noted as being broken legions, however Angron's path of blood or whatever it was called seems to suggest that strong leader could probably bind them to him as long as he provides them with things to kill. You may have noted I use two factions a lot as you may be thinking "hey that legion is shattered into more parts than that", well I'm talking about major named known factions which often end up being those who follow the primarch and those who don't. There may be other lesser factions and the major factions may themselves be divided (as I mentioned with the Iron warriors). So a lot of this comes down to what the war bands identify themselves as. The Skull-takers are the Skull-takers and are mostly made up of World Eater stock but do they still consider themselves as World Eaters? Some war bands will, some won't. This is often what people refer to when they say my war band is part of the Iron warriors legion. Their war band may be a tiny fraction (also faction) of the legion that once was but then members of the war band still identify themselves as Iron warriors and still chose to do things in the Iron warrior way. You will also get Iron Warrior war bands who no longer consider themselves Iron warriors or even if they do they may have developed a different style of warfare because of their leader, environment or background (a war band descended from an Iron warrior biker company for example). So when someone says that isn't fluffy, maybe they mean "that isn't typical of legion Y, why do you want to play legion Y?", but they are attacking you as it is your game ;)
  6. Under the last Eldar codex the codex (or it may have been 2rd/4th edition rules) the rules for singing spears specifically stated that you could throw the spear in the shooting phase but then you couldn't use it in CC on the same turn (I assume that is player turn but I don't remember now), now I no this has no impact on current RAW, but for those who are trying to read rules one way or another due to GW not possibly meaning 'X' or 'Y'... Well I just wanted to point out this wouldn't be the first time. I am afraid I have no input beyond what has already been said on RAW about special weapons and pistols. Maybe you should all spam GW so that they will put this in the next FAQ.
  7. NEVAH!!!!!!!!!! Down with the Moderatii overlords! I mean grats DG! I'll consider your proposal GM.
  8. I hope that didn't seem like an attack, I could totally understand where you were coming from. I just wanted to clear up some things so my friend doesn't seem like a huge Cheese McBeardson.
  9. That's nice, but if you read what we're talking about, it is a purely UNCONVERTED standard GW Drop Pod, you are talking about modelling for advantage, which is against the rules. Incorrect. 1) It was made before the orks had an official model for such a vehicle. 2) It was made for a different version of the game where this would not be an issue. 2) It was originally built specifically as a bridge layer for a narrative game. So the model gives an advantage but it was not specifically modelled to give an advantage. So it clearly isn't a case of modelling for an advantage. Other examples I can give include... A guy with a chaos lord (marine sized) with huge wings... bigger than what most DPs have and again this was before true LOS but now his chaos lord = epic cover. Finally a guy who converted most of his guard into prone positions which again made no/little difference before true LOS but now causes havok as it can be very hard to see him... On that note he also can't see over anything himself...
  10. Gotta read all the rules there. I know, I am trying to show how badly the rules concerning this are written. And actually as it states in the bold section of your quote, measuring from the hull is used for rules that would normally measure to a models base. No rules for embarkation etc state base, so therefore you don't use the hull. Well my Ork friend with a bridge layer battle wagon will be pleased that he can assault over 30 inches in one turn now!
  11. Assuming that these Minotaurs are an updated version (And this could be a totally different chapter.) of the red and yellow ones (god it took me forever to paint those...) I took the red chevrons as a nudge & a wink in that direction. I am however assuming that they are the same chapter. Now they might have been given some meaning as well I couldn't say but my thoughts would be kill markings, crusade markings or time in service markings.
  12. Also with the old wulfen models and the fluff that suggest that you know... certain giant wolves might actually have been Human natives, Space Wolves or aspirants at one point isn't it a little late to complain about the werewolf thing now... at least you guys don't glitter and you should be thankful that you don't need to use the chaos codex :tu:
  13. I play a 13th company list (One of my Lords is a conversion of the old citadel werewolf...) and I think this guy would be pretty great considering I often take no armoured vehicles...
  14. Hey I like becoming a god! However once I become a god I don't do anything helpful for the rest of the party... Hell I spent 5 years pulling carts in a mine... As for the the Vyper thing... It depends on what kind of weapon load out you want! A double scatter laser load out on one of them is far superior choice when compared with a scatter laser + shuriken catapult vyper. I personally think the Vyper is a bit naff XD I rate land speeders more and they do pretty much the same thing!
  15. Swop out one of those LRs for another Achilles a few other changes and I've played against a 1,500pt list with the same kind of idea... I was also using Eldar and considering the reliance of many Eldar lists on lance and melta for anti-tank... :Z it was tough! I won however due to the fact that he had so little... Once the raiders are gone that is essentially his army gone... It isn't like rhinos where they can die after a turn and they may have done their job. I got fairly lucky with one Achilles I admit! It went poop in the 2nd turn... A squad of Wraithguard :tu: The standard lander raider was just a standard land raider >.< so not a huge problem for the Eldar... The final Achilles I could not destroy :'( I'm not confident I would auto-win against such a list but my Eldar list is prepared for it... Some armies I admit would not... and I think my Dark Eldar list would laugh at such a list :D unless they are immune to haywire grenades. Orks for example would cry... and guard lists that rely on melta-vets to open armour. --Edit-- Both the Achilles and CAR often cited as broken/OTT/OP units might well be OTT but I'm not sure they are OP. They eat a lot of points and often a list that uses them relies on them and in a varied all comers environment that will harm you when facing certain lists. Also if I'm honest a unit that discourages melta-spam and missile/auto-cannon spam is a good thing assuming that armies have other options! Orks for example lack anti-tank options in general... Normally needing to get close... not good if you need to survive the Achilles first or getting stupidly lucky with the Shokk attack gun. Is the Achilles perfectly balanced? Nah... Is it the be all and end all? No... If it was the same price as a normal raider then hell yeahs... or if it could mess up someones game as badly as the Lucius pattern drop pod... Then yeah. However I feel it is a no. I repsect others have their own opinions.
