Its a salvage project, old second or third hand models in bad shape, meant to become a 10 man crusader squad
-
thing is won't that squad be a point sink? I don't have the books nearby but a custodes squad in a land raider woul be very limiting for the rest of the army (points and structure wise).

Thanks - on the Deathwing, I just couldn't decide on the blade - light blue seemed daunting, too big for metallic, maybe obsidian blade? Apart from that, just needs decals and base touching up. But what usually freezes me mid-paint job is the realisation that the finish is not going to live up to my original conception. I have become a better converter over the years, but a worse painter. On the Chaplain - many issues - but here proof I picked up the paintbrush! My aim was to go for Standard Word bearer, but with the main torso plate black. Even scab red seemed too bright, so I toned it down. I think I've overdone it - hardly 'Crimson' as I believe Dembski-Bowden describes it. Also I was worried about too much gold, so created a kind of brass for the trim on the legs. I like the colour, but looks more 40k than 30k for some reason, and so I have decided to change this to gold - will also tie it back to the shoulder-guard gold. But my gold paint is really struggling. Crozius looks awful. And when I looked at Kurtha Sedd, his crozius seems to be made of marble?! Marble might be a bridge too far, but I might change it to some kind of stone. Will reduce the amout of gold and solve some of the coverage issues. Not sure if I can really 'sell' it though. On the deathwing for the sword I would probably go for the classic black and green glow. Looking good on the chaplain, its easier to paint gold if you give it an undercoat of brown then paint the gold, git it a brown(ish) wash and finally some light drybrush highlights. pretty much the formula given by GreyRavenC -

I managet to get a cheap one in a sale like that and a baneblade for the price of a rhino. Best deal ever!!!! On topic, I've always used the chaplain in TDA to lead the Assault terminators. As for shootinators I've always been a sucker for assault cannons, blame the schwaznegger movies if you want, but I just love picturing the damage an assault cannon would do to infantry. -

I haven't played a game in 8th yet, to be honest haven't played in a long time. Back in the day I used to field: 2x Preds Autocannon + las sponsons 2x Land Speeders typhoon LRC in larger games now I would probably still field the predators and add dakka dreads

Some rumours concerning both GK and chaos, it might give some insight on some of the questions that have poped up https://spikeybits.com/2017/08/rumor-grey-knight-rules.html I must say that, if these rumours are true, chaos is getting a complete face lift and each legion is becoming unique in its own way while following the fluff.

Minimum Squad size is actually 5 and Maximum Squad size is 20 currently. This may change with the new codex. Hope that helps. At least we've picked squads that have the same model count range xD Anyways, here's my squad: http://imgur.com/a/EmrpR some random marines I got in a trade some years back, never bothered to work on them, might as well seize this opportunity to do so and make them useful. (that gold marine though....) xD -

I, Drac0, accept the challenge set to me by Sagentus, and step into the Arena, where we shall build, paint and base a infantry unit. I shall bring forth a 10 man crusader squad before the deadline of August 31st, 2017. If they complete their challenge, eternal glory will be theirs. If they fail, they shall wear the badge of shame until the end of 018M02. -

Not really into online retailers with higher prices than FLGS and they can't order them anymore, I guess I'll wait and treat myself to a Titan instead. Similar price range xD Which titan are you thinking of getting? Know, only store that I know to have stock it's ebay, don't trust their "new and boxed" stuff. Titan was probably misleading but I'll get an Imperial Knight with Thermal Cannon, Stormspear pod and of course a Chainsword to fit a 2k list. Then I'll still take the 2nd LRC and an Interceptor, list done and see how it works haha. Yeah, it was misleading, at first I tought you meant a Knight, but I wasn't sure xD

Not part of the challenge but might as well use this thread to post updates to my crusade rather than create a new one. so here it is the update on the squad that will follow chaplain [insert name] into the fires of battle: Still wip, experimenting on the danger stripes and leaving the base to dry overnight. http://imgur.com/a/tEdo7 http://imgur.com/a/uluvA

Solid paint job there LameBeard. Only thing I would point out is the glow on the sword, other than that great tabletop standard. Don't let the lazyness get the best of you, grab them paints and brushes and get cracking ;) -

The Emperor's Children can still strike before charging units. The rule says: "Units with this trait always fight first in the Fight phase even if they didn’t charge. If the enemy has units that have charged, or that have a similar ability, then alternate choosing units to fight with, starting with the player whose turn it is taking place." So if you charge the Emperor's Children then you get to choose the first unit to fight with (because it is your turn), but after that it alternates for any other units that have charged, and finally, the Emperor's Children get to fight first in any ongoing combats. Exactly. Can one charge on the opponent turn? Well, as far as I can tell no, so as written you charge, you go first. The bonus will only apply on the turns you didn't charge, which one can work around, like Marshal_Roujakis pointed out by beating the living daemons out of them on the charge. On a side note, I haven't had a proper look at the chaos index, but...aren't the pink kids trademark troop equiped mainly with sonic weapons? I know they can gear some units to CC, but not to the same degree as World Eaters. I'm with Firepower on this one, it would be way worse if Bezerkers had this rule. Did you miss the part about "alternate choosing units to fight with"? If you charge with multiple units you get to choose one of those units to fight first (because the player who's turn it is always chooses the first unit to fight with), then the Emperor's Children player can choose a unit to fight with (even before your other units that charged this turn), then you choose the next unit to fight with etc. It alternates until all of the charging units have fought, then in any ongoing combats the Emperor's Children fight first. No, I didn't miss it. And not really that badm could be worse, they could fight first 100% of the time. Just make sure you pick the right fights and swing first where it matters the most.
