  1. I think they should have been left as legendary figures of old, surrounded in mystery and long since forgotten to the majority of the Imperium along with the Heresy. Perhaps only known through ancient statues or busts whose names have long since been forgotten, lost to time amongst the tens of thousand of popular figures that have come and gone since their time. I don't thing their presence or passing should be significant to any but a handful of learned historical scholars or Inquisitors. I think they fall foul of the double edged sword of nostalgia where something is fondly remembered so therefore is potentially profitable as a model which at the end of the day is why GW are here. I don't blame for GW bringing them back as larger than life centrepiece models from a business part of view as to be fair it makes sense but from a previous fan of the lore of the game a little part of me grimaces and smiles politely when a new one is returned. Chaos Primarchs oddly enough I am fine with existing within the Eye of Terror ruling over blighted and twisted realities of their own creation but when they keep bringing the Loyalists back there is no tragic sacrifice of finality to them. My personal take is that the story of their rise and fall from grace should be kept as a mythical hard learnt lesson of the past in my mind. Revealing their flaws as living creatures takes away from that and feel if they are going to release them as models it should be kept confined to the Heresy setting as right now it just blurs the lines between the two. The Heresy shone a spotlight on them to such a meticulous degree, for me personally speaking, that the mythology became more akin to fact and therefore stripped them of interest and intrigue. I have no doubt that moving forwards each Loyalist will return from the dead or otherwise as a centrepiece release for each future edition of 40k.
  2. I do have a ton of models sat in boxes for these guys but I don't think this will coax me into playing around with the idea of an army. There are so many aspects of Custodes that appeal to me but to be honest I personally think they'd work better as an allied contingent.
  3. I think it's fine, it's an addition to their lore and beyond adding maybe some resin bare heads it's not really going to invalidate anyone's armies which is always a good thing.
  4. AD-B suggested female Custodes, I seem to recall the answer being that since there were no female Custodes models it wasn't made a thing at the time. I think it was when he was writing Master of Mankind.
  5. GW grew mostly out of Asgard and Citadel Miniatures with growth driven by a desire from customers to be able to use their models in large scale battles. They did limited runs in the distant past but this wasn't in the same style as modern FOMO limited models as if you missed their scant few marketing pamphlets it could be years before you even knew that the model existed in the first place. They were not collectors models though but more akin to limited production runs of items that may not be popular or be supported extensively. The modern trend seems to be in the very early stages of limited model runs becoming more frequent perhaps even one day replacing the staple boxes of miniatures in the far off future. The game rules were originally to help sell more models, these days it's more about the IP and editions with huge splash releases that come with them.
  6. I think it would be a terrible idea. Any true citizen of the Imperium should be content enough to sit by the glow their Administratum approved single heater unit, listening to their designated Vox chant prayers of holy worship to Him on Terra as we settle down to a nice bowl of Corpse Starch and sip on a small glass of rationed Amasec. We have no need for traitorous propaganda and moving pictures with talk of weaponizing the hobbies of good hard working loyal citizens for personal political advancement of blasphemous unsanctioned ideology. That is the way of the Xenos, the Traitor and the Heretic! Besides GW prices are bad enough as it is without having to pay for a tv license to enjoy the hobby on top of that.
  7. Bought the new Heresy book and four boxes of Solar Auxila elites. I just need some light sentinels then the rest of the year I'm going to see if I can buy nothing hobby related.
  8. I think the issue with the game being so tied to balance is that the game was never intended to be balanced full stop. It was intended to be wargaming which traditionally had roleplay scenario elements and not what it has become which is something more akin to being forced into an e-sport product mentality. I think that there is still room in the form of house rules to allow more creativity for personalised armies but it means finding like minded players that are willing to play in the sandbox that 40k was intended to be rather than stay within the confines of the little box of officialdom that it has become. I can totally appreciate people still find it fun and fair play to them but it deeply saddens me to say that to me personally it's it's become a vapid and soulless superficial product grind. In my day the creativity was the focus where it was making models or house rules to share with others but to me now it's all about leaks, rules, youttube promotion and fomo these days.
  9. It's ok, nothing spectacular. I think they could have just rolled this into the melee sprue release as one kit to be honest, it's the plastic equivalent of a generic forge world upgrade set. I'd rather they had just released a single standard bearer plastic mini because that's the only thing I'd buy that set for.
  10. I personally think it would be fine. While I imagine the Navy is probably fairly uniform each Legion and even region could potentially vary greatly. You have expedition fleets operating alone for decades and it may well be that they outrun their supply chains as the conquests mount up and they begin to incorporate local materials and supplies. You could just say that they sourced the uniforms or crews locally after taking heavy loses if it came down to it.
  11. Blackshields can take many forms from Renegades. Freedom fighters, Mercenaries and so on and can be from all sorts of survivors or separatists. There are options including messing around with their DNA and creating clones and abhorrents from what I have seen so far. It sounds a bit like the old DYI Chapter traits from the old days of 40k. Typically they removed Legion icons but you can do what you want with them tbh, it's more like warbands.
  12. I managed to order the book and four boxes of the Storm Section in the end. I am really looking forward to playing around with the Black Shields and Shattered Legions. It sounds like a lot more heavier in terms of rules and opens up a lot of creativity which is what I have been looking for beyond the basic Legions. I really like the majority rule, the idea of tactically removing members of the majority legion to alter the nature of the unit sounds really interesting and mixed Legions in a single unit sounds like so much fun for conversions. From a modelling perspective it's very exciting and I've been slowly building stuff that I can finally now commit to specific Legions along with Solar Auxilia allies and finally get stuck in. I love the idea of an army of light Sentinels though, that just screams grim dark oddball cavalry army to me.
  13. Well it may have worked as they arrived today.
  14. Typical, the week before payday and they drop every single thing I have been patiently waiting ages for in one go. I'll have to settle for just this book.
  15. It seems that Royal Mail have made a dark pact along with the Mechanicum and are in fact in league with the forces of the dread traitor Horus having prevented my troops from arriving at the designated muster jump point at Sol. Mine were supposed to arrive today but will be Monday now...
