  1. They're this big! http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v429/BulldogUK/Odininshop2506094.jpg Hehe, sorry Castellan I simply couldn't resist it! Good work so far btw, I recommend you buy 3 Reavers then you can have a Venatarii Reaver Titan Maniple (3 Reavers + 3 hounds) silly to do things by half ;)
  2. That's a good approach. I use the same principle, my mantra is 'why paint one when you can paint 50'! Shouldn't really take you long once you get started either, I managed to collect, build and paint 38,000 pts in less than two years and still the forces grow bigger <rolls eyes> in fact my biggest limiting factor has been space, the constant re-arrangement of my shelves has become a fine art form and possibly an Olympic disipline! Need to approach this number of pieces like a machine, choose your pieces then run through them one stage at a time, a conveyor belt of one as it were. Try not to think, it only makes things worse  With a force of this size base colours with strong lining will work well and as you say just a little extra work on the character peices as you see fit. Let's be honest a bazillion ultramarine symbols on all those shoulder pads is gonna make the best of us go cross eyed anyhow, we won't notice much else :D Try and do some infantry then alternate it with vehicles to limit the monotony indeed it would probably help (if your intending to play) to plan a small average force size to paint first and get some decent games in, I found it has really re-charged my batteries and injected a little more enthusiasm where it had started to wilt a little! Most important thing enjoy yourself! Look forward to the updates :D Bully
  3. I'd offer to paint too, but then I wouldn't have anything to do after Xmas :cuss Seriously though as the other chaps said you really need to start painting things now if you want to get any use out of them before the rest of the 40k fraternity get bored and move onto some other gaming system, fickle devoted followers that we are. Impressive as that collection is I personally wouldn't allow a single figure on my table that wasnt painted...but then I guess I am just fussy ^_^ Run over 'em with the good old airbrush you could finish it all within 6 months, probably less with pretty reasonable gaming standards on par with my Crimsons. Which reminds me, I better buy my paints before you deplete the world stocks.......Have fun!
  4. This is looking funky mate, keep up the good work. Recently dusted off my collection and took the opportunity to add things up. In an open roster, what you see is what you get force I could field the following forces Crimson Ultrawings - 11,845 pts Battlegroup Ragnarok - 19,780 Deamonhunters - 6450 Total - 38,075 (all painted and ready for duty)! I would estimate over 90% of this is scratchbuilt or bought second hand and re-painted so bear in mind epic forces can be done on the cheap! I will have to knock up a few more Warlords to even it out and we can get together for a truly Apoc battle sometime! :P
  5. Ilnar has posted the two links to the Gabriel based card plans, this makes quite a nice paladin style class, while some might say its a little too big for a knight style engine you could always either scale the plans down a little before printing or approach it using my mantra. Forget about scale and adopt the 'cool is the rule' approach, I find it always works well in 40k :D Of course the other advantages are the plans are free and also the card if you opt to canabalise cereal boxes etc. Double bonus! FC, just spotted your post. Are you looking for rules for the knight classes? If so the Lords of battle rule sheets cover all classes, they can be found over at bell of lost souls as a free download, hope this helps
  6. Hi Firenze, much cheaper and easier method would be the way I approached things. My knight was based on the card plans of the Gabriel by armorbimbo. You can scale them to any size you require before you print too, which is a bonus, just a matter of scratching up your own desired weapon loadout and your away! The plans to download and a few build pics can be found here Iron Duke Paladin Knight The model shown was a straight print from the supplied plans with a little detail added, some might say a little big but I like my 40k to be substantial and chunky  http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v429/BulldogUK/TexnDuke5.jpg http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v429/BulldogUK/TexnDuke2.jpg http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v429/BulldogUK/Gabriel1.jpg http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v429/BulldogUK/ImperialpaladinKnight15.jpg
