  1. Lore wise, it's the epicness and over-the-top (the good one, not the "I put gun on my gun next to my gun" one) of the battle of this era that I like, super human fighting each others, Demi gods leaders fighting for entire systems, Titans roaming around in pack, entire Tanks divisions etc. It's a war to the bone, on every spectrum, from skirmish to the planetary system. Nothing is held on, spared or forbidden. every boots are on the grounds, every engine who can runs are, evey stompers stomp and those who can't are actively worked on to do so. It's the fight or die of the human race, no middle ground. 40k just isn't at this level. Rule & game wise: The fact that it's a continuation/refinement (debatable with 2.0 additions) of the 40k's old rules system, that I like more than the newer (8th +) one. The fact that by the narrowed scope of forces present it's more likely to give a "balanced" experience, less subject to powercreep and "shiny new miniature is OP,buyitbuyit" syndroms. Still, Legions are differentiated enough so there is proper identities and gameplay styles to each one of them. Bigger format games are a real thing without any alternative rules. Books and Illustrations are really good, especially the black books of first Ed. I like the slower pace of production, edition. You've time to thing about your army composition, painting your miniatures etc. No need to destroy your nostrils to be able to keep up with the new codex, the new chapter approved, the new unit etc... It's more chill. And community wise: I know this will sound gatekeeping to some, but I liked the reaction of the online community when a part of the more hardcore competitives/dickometer influencers tried to work the new edition hype to come in. It's an approach of the hobby that I don't particularly enjoy and, I think, is responsible, with other things, for the current state/mess that 40k is in now. And the community is accustomed to deal with homerules tweaks, modifying profiles etc, more self sufficient and relaxed on their approach of the hobby, at least in my circle of players. I have concern with the game (hello 2.0, specially tanks and artillery) but knowing that something I can propose changes and balance tries without problem, is nice.
  2. Good day everyone, I've a bit of a problem with the ultramarines 2.0, I keep reading that they're good, really synergise well etc... And... I don't see it. And I've looked at the rules multiples times. The new version of the legion rule archieve the rare success of being a nerf and more pain to deal with, as instead of just putting a marked token to the unit targeted, you now have to have multiple pairs of token to associate the marked unit to the unit who marked it for those 6" auras. And it completly broke the idea of synergized army, as now, front units work for front units and back units for the back units. Logos Lectora is a no go for me, as for every bonus there is an associated penalty. So basically, at every mixed turn (3 to 5) you've to choose if you boost Close combat and F... up your shooting or the opposite. And yes I know: "Guilliman", but Guilliman is a Primarch, not always there. Special units are good yes, but a part from locutarus, they're all elite, an already cramped section, and you've no RoW to move them to other slots. So 1 or 2 and you're done. So I know this sounds like a rant, which it is not. I like ultra, like the lore, the color scheme is really something I'd like to try, but they feels really "subpar" rule wise. It's just I feel like I missing something when reading analysis and threads like here, but at the same time I pretty sure of what I've read in the rules book and my conclusions.
  3. Oh, ok. Maybe, I don't know. Your post made me think there had been an update/FAQ recently, after the book 8.
  4. Hello ! Where have you seen a point increase for the assault cannon ? I've checked the FAQ, but that's still the same from February ? Other question, still working around a mechanized theme blood angel's force, I was looking the armoured breakthrough RoW, and it's quite nice, since we get (back ?) our fast rhino and predator. But my question is Can I upgrade my compulsory troops predator squadrons with TL assault cannon ? The RoW says predator AC and sponsons only but the TL assault are a legion option so...
  5. Hello everyone, As I'm thinking about a non-DoR RoW BA army, themed around motorized infantry, tanks, dreads and only sparkles of jump packs. I've a question about the "Host of Angels" Legion's special Rule wich state: "With the exception of Dedicated Transports, a Blood Angels Detachment may not have more units with the Vehicle type than it has units with the Legiones Astartes (Blood Angels) special rule." So Dedicated transport doesn't count, ok. Spartan for Termis etc. But does the squad still allow another non dedicated vehicle, to be in the list ? I'd say no for the spirit of the rules, but as it's not clearly stated... Second: point I want to be sure I'm understanding correctly (as I'm quite noob) : The rule state a unit for a unit, so a predator/sicaran/whatever squadron count as one ? And dreadnought as 1 either except for talons ? And they don't get the BA special rules as they don't have legiones astartes (blood angels) or i'm missing something ? Thanks for the reading anyway !
  6. Hello All ! I'm here today to submit a lore core base of my DiY chapter (aka Rattlesnakes) to your criticism. Keep in mind that it's just core ideas, the writing and all will help blend things together, but if the core is messed up it won't work. Also, feel free to correct my english So basically: Genese: Istvaan V in ca. 56006. M31, at the end of the dropsite massacre. A pot pourri of surviving loyalists of roughly a hundred and a half plus some mechanicus guys and what manage to follow find their way back to space and try to escape on the least usable and damaged spaceship (maybe a troop transport or something civilian) and initiate a warp jump (Yeah, an iron hand guy calculated the probabilities: 99,99% destruction if you stay in the renegade controlled system on a overloaded, damaged, almost unarmed ship vs 83.89% if you try a warp jump). Then it goes wrong. Nowadays: ca. 999.M41. Eastern Fringe, Jericho reach sector. Following the Black crusade and the destruction of cadia, the black reef and the Hadex anomaly makes a brutal expansion creating a giant warp barrier and cuttting in half an already missknown sector (this part is cannon). The watch station of the cressid death world observe multiple warp eruptions, some of them rejecting hulks and large masses in the "standard" universe. An intermediary sized one is going, flaming and spinning, in the direction of Vathor, a former penal world at the edge of the known sector. It bend, breaks and all before crash landing on the surface of the planet. And here start the rattlesnake story. Now a more point by point part, more a roadbook to be developped: Rattlesnake: -Survivors of the crash. -heresy era material, nothing heavy for the beginning, they fled. -war council chief (one of each chapter survivors + representants of the other: mechanicus etc...) - Codex astarwhat ? -Reasonnable marines: core of raven guard survivors + no supplies + survived not to die now in a last square. -They got a 10 millenias delay, they don't know much about most recent discoveries like tau, wich might be a pity, as they are neighbours. Why new chapter ? -They are dropped on a ground on an almost forgotten part of the imperium only news they got are from the locals (see world part below) -They are a melt of different legions, combat doctrines and way of thinking and for what they know their former legions might be wipped. -They need to regroup, create a unity to survive, and adapt as theirs forces are depleting in front of the new threats they're facing. Chapter name ? - A natural predator they encounter wich is sneaky, scaly and cold minded. fine for everyone (I already have some stories ideas to develop this) World ? - Vathor: a former penal world where prisonners were dropped by one way pods, but drops didn't happens for quite some time now. -Large world so it don't get destroyed by the crash. - An australian/south african themed world. -Locals feet the world theme, they're former prisonners or descendants, still imperials in their way, but no blindness: they were condamned and abandonned. -Some structures still remain: there is a governor like, cities etc but in a bush way of doing it. -War on the planet: marauding bands, a tau scout group with some sepratist cities. maybe the hulks dropped by the warp with the shipwreck will bring something else and maybe some brothers weren't that loyals... Nearbies world ? -There is a watch station nearby, some dead and death worlds from tyrannids attacks, and on longer ways feral and feudal worlds, could be nice to find a way to make space travels again... For now that's the core of what I plan, I'm more than eager to have some advices, criticism and all from you. Thanks for reading !
