Caedre weapons are not free...I wish they were. They are 15pts for any character with a chainsword. So far the Meter Hammer is the best, +2S and +1I is worth the cost. I still believe paying for something that we can get for free is a waste. Having bolters, pistols, and Chainsword on one unit is over kill. For less points (counting a transport to carry 20 tacs) you can get an assault squad.- 2322 replies

Yes, the only limitations after a Fury attack is no overwatch the current turn or shooting the following turn. But you cannot shoot boltguns and assault, you would be using pistols. Which is why I suggest dropping boltgun for the free CCW for the free +1A. 40 shots before charge and 3A (57 normal and 3-4 for the sgt) which WILL murder things. That's 100 dice rolls against one unit in one turn. Fury is not cheese, there are enough limitations to make it balanced. The biggest being not able to move in the movement phase. This makes it a primarily defensive ability, but if used right can be used on the attack. On the note of Bolters, you get to shoot twice...which means that if you are in rapid fire range you get 4 shots per dude. Yes...80 bolter shots within 12"...scary.- 2322 replies

Yet Apothecaries cannot be in every squad...and cannot take jump packs. So if you want a (very scary) 20 man assault squad to have FNP, Primus is the only option. Additionally, FNP is not the only thing the Primus brings to the table. More wounds, better gear, and ++ save...Having a very durable and still lethal character that gives FNP for around 100 points (with Jump pack) is nice. Remember, for 15 points you can give him a Meteor Hammer (+2 S, +1I).- 2322 replies

40 shots is not enough to kill anything, more so if the target is kited out to take those hits. Do despoilers and for 5 more points get a apothicary., which is a greater combat multiplier the the extra 12" range. That you maybe able to use once a game. This is all learned from 8-9 30k players that played nearly every week trying every manner of build from pure fluff to WAAC. I'm not saying that this is the only way, but this is pretty much the standard for anyone running Tacs for CC in my group.- 2322 replies

Well, your first problem is running 10 man squads. 30k is all about the big squads. They are needed for the lack of ATSKNF. As far as which troop, depends on how you are running the army. If you are footslogging, then you are limited on number of vehicles. If you are jumppacking it, they you have vehicle room for support and non-dedicated transports for the less mobile units. When you are talking about units that cost from 250 to 450 points each, 40 points is quite a bit. That's two upgraded sergeants or most of an apothecary, which are both a better use of points.- 2322 replies

40 points is a large chunk of points, that's 4 sets or artificer armor. As far as the shorter range, if you are hanging them back you're not being a true WE. WE are all about CC. In CC attacks rule. Anything that's gets you an extra attack for free is a no brainer. More so when you can still Fury...and do it before a charge. the following turn you should be locked combat or running after eating face while your Fury recharges. I do it all the time.- 2322 replies

This is general, but key...ALWAYS take artificer armor for your sergeants. That 2+ matrix style shot blocking and challenge durability is great for only 10 points. Drop entire squads if to must to pay for this upgrade.- 2322 replies

Red Butchers may drop their combi-bolter to gain an extra Power Axe for free. it's really the only way they should be run. The combi-bolter is worthless in their hands with BS2. The extra 40 pts for the CCW on despoilers is not worth it in my option, when you can get the same result for free. If you want ranged shots; run a support squad, you can get more powerful shots. Angron has stats...he's one of the (if not best) CC primarch in the game so far!- 2322 replies

Yes, despoilers are just Tac squads that have dropped their bolter for the extra CCW. I would never take an additional CCW, dropping both ranged weapons just means you lose out on the Fury shots. Always take the free extra power axe. BS2 makes the stormbolters worthless, but the extra attack is needed. Dual chainfists give some can open in power to get at the meaty center.- 2322 replies

As far as how to build a force, it's always the same. Find a RoW you like and build from there. I liked the idea of Angel's Wraith, so went with an all jump pack force. Once you have a RoW (even if you don't/can't use it fromt he start) you have a direction in the hundreds of options. Then get a HQ and troops you like. Fill out as needed for points and unit size. And the RoW gives me Hit and Run, which is nice to shift out units to help assaults that are not going as planned. I am in full support of full squads. I believe anyone that only runs 10 man troops has no real concept of what 30k is all about. My force Has Khârn, a praetor, Master of Signal, Primus Medicae, 2 full assault squads, 2 squads of rampagers, 1 squad of destroyers, two 7 man squads of butchers, 1 squad of breachers (beginning of the Triarii). I have a full despoiler squad that will be Khârn's retinue. Then I have the Iron Warrior support slowly growing, they will be the vehicles, heavy weapons, and scouts. The praetor runs with a rampager squad, the medicae runs with an assault squad, and the MoS runs with the destoyers...BS5 destoyers with ML's is a fun unit. Khârn runs with butchers and has dropped two knights so far. This force is a super fluff bat, but while not an insta-win--people respect it. 70+ pissed off jump pack marines hitting a small part of the line is hard to deal with. The only tactic I have issue with is the castled army. But I still spearhead and wreak shop. My future plans are to put the butchers in assault rams...nothing like crashing an airplane into things and murder jumping out. I will also fill out the Triarii with a second breacher squad and some termies. If you are not upgrading to chainaxes...you should go play another legion. When the 30k IG hit they will not stand a chance and chainaxes look bitchin'. On my praetor I have found that Paragon blade and Charnabal is the best load out so far; but i'm looking at dropping one of the WE weapons, just have not settled on one yet. Butchers- great for creating a small area of pain. They are pretty durable against most units and believe one of if not the best Legion termite's in the game. I've gone toe to toe (with a 7 man squad) with a full squad of firedrakes and there were only two of them left when the dust settled. Rampagers - good when you kit them with the various WE weapons. The up 'S' and up 'I' make them great at handling most of anything unit. I use them as the blunt force unit, using Hit n Run to bounce them where needed. Destroyers- Love them. the assaulting Missile launchers are great to knock out dug in units. And the 18 pistol shots at BS5 (with MoS) soften up a unit before the assault. The MoS can also drop his orbital shot when needed. despoilers- drop the bolt gun for the chainaxe. Still get to Fury with the pistols but get an extra attack in CC. Very fluffy and effective.- 2322 replies
