Thanks mate! - The base is going to be a big snow covered hill/rock thing, with Cassius standing in the centre on the over hang. The rest of the squad will be coming how the two sides to meet a Hormagaunt hoard below. This is all subject to change, but thats the rough outline I have in my head! Sorry for my absence, I've been sick for the past few weeks, nothing serious, but with that combined with work, I've had little to no time. That said, I have completed this guy: http://i.imgur.com/6N3M7Rd.jpg Not my strongest work, so he may not make it onto the dio. I've started work on another one too, but failed to get a picture haha Thanks for looking! ~Replica- 87 replies

Cheers! I am trying to make him look decent, but this one has proved the most challenging so far. Yeah, he might look decent when there's some more colour to distract from the poor cast! I think that is a tyranid skull symbol thing, its a sword hilt and not a grenade. Here you go I just recieved mine thursday they look GREAT. https://www.shapeways.com/shops/plokoone-s-bits Thanks DeathSpecter, that is exactly where they are from. The choice is insane! I've been sick for the last week or so, so apologies for the lateness of this update. I've been working on this finecast vet, and have decided he will be placed on low priority, and ill keep building plastic marines and decide at the end who makes the cut. http://i.imgur.com/RvuopW8.jpg Here is the next plastic chap I've thrown together - I, once again, forgot to get a pic of him all together, but he will be simply firing a bolter. http://i.imgur.com/BYu7AJx.jpg And I have also made a start on the base, its just cardboard layers and masking tape at this point, then ill add plaster cast rocks, and a layer of filler before spraying, painting and adding snow: http://i.imgur.com/DKvsQJx.jpg Thanks for taking a look, all C&C welcome! ~Replica- 87 replies

Sagentus, on 20 Jul 2017 - 5:27 PM, said: Wow that heavy flamer looks ace! Cheers mare! Widowmaker, on 21 Jul 2017 - 03:09 AM, said: Great work Replica! The shoulder pads are a great addition (you may have convinced me to pick some up!). Love the battle damage! Very subtle, and perfectly executed! Look forward to seeing more! Cheers! Widowmaker Thanks Widowmaker, I can highly recommend the pads, there is a really insane level of choice too, just about any chapter you've heard of! Vairocanum, on 21 Jul 2017 - 5:40 PM, said: Oh man that Heavy Flamer guy is fantastic! Great richness of color as usual! Thanks mate! Much appreciated! I've started work on an official TW vet and this one is not off to a great start. This is my first attempt at painting a 'finecast' model, and now i can really see why this line received the backlash it did. I can deal with the annoying level of prep these models require, sanding, shaving and clipping those near-microscopic braces they put on every overhang. The thing that has made this model a real nightmare is this ugly texture all over it: http://i.imgur.com/SyvIm0a.jpg I paint using lots of glazes to try to control the blending, so lots of extremely thin coats means this texture shows through on the piece. And thats even after I've put almost twice the number of coats to try to get to a smooth blend. The texture causes tiny pools to form, making the blend very ugly. I have also tried to use the battle damage to cover up particularly badly textured areas, but this has resulted in there being a little more damage on him than I'd have liked. I'm very tempted to bin this one, and stick with plastics for the whole squad - but, I will finish him. I might learn some way of making it work. http://i.imgur.com/Oa7Fe9F.jpg http://i.imgur.com/So4c8ey.jpg http://i.imgur.com/PDiK6Ke.jpg I'm rather embarrassed to show these, but I would really appreciate some opinions. Am I overreacting, or do they look as bad to you as the do to me? Thanks for looking! ~Replica- 87 replies

Thanks mate! Yeah, definitely going to have to put in another Shapeways order! It does have a slight texture, as you can see in the image, so I think I'll experiment with coating it in thinned down vallejo plastic putty. I'll make a push mould of the logo too so i can try to put it on other Mk pads. Heavy flamer guy is complete, and I'm pretty pleased with the results: http://i.imgur.com/TUgwdh2.jpg http://i.imgur.com/b7F3qHY.jpg http://i.imgur.com/qTEJ2i8.jpg http://i.imgur.com/5nACVf7.jpg All comments and criticism welcome! Next up I'll be doing a guy from the boxed set, I was saving them for "when I'm good enough" but, being my own worst critic, I figure I'd better take the plunge! I'll be doing this guy, but with a power sword instead of the combat knife: https://vignette2.wikia.nocookie.net/warhammer40k/images/7/7b/Tyrannic_War_Vet_3.jpg/revision/latest/scale-to-width-down/200?cb=20140123164935 Thanks for taking the time to have a look! ~Replica- 87 replies

Thanks mate! I wasnt really thinking about the vent being a vent, more looking at is as a snow catching shelf, but i will have to be a bit more mindful. You are 100% right about the shoulder pads! I've taken your advice and ordered some 3D printed pads from Shapeways! Thanks mate, much appreciated!! On to the newt guy! This guy is gonna have a heavy flamer. I wanted there to be a little movement in the pose, and found these legs in the assault squad kit and thought they looked like they were taking a slow step forward - more akin to re-positioning as opposed to rushing forward. http://i.imgur.com/rNQFSuH.jpg http://i.imgur.com/hTjFavP.jpg http://i.imgur.com/t02F0Y0.jpg The torso and shoulder pads arent too interesting yet, haha. I will be changing the crux terminatus pad out with a Tyrannic War vets shoulder pad from Shapeways. http://i.imgur.com/ki7gAoy.jpg And the heavy flamer backpack: http://i.imgur.com/8OfYiFS.jpg Thanks for taking the time to have a look, all C&C welcome! ~Steve- 87 replies

This dude is done! http://i.imgur.com/yZLBHhV.jpg http://i.imgur.com/GZGN3KP.jpg http://i.imgur.com/PDBgFxt.jpg http://i.imgur.com/FldDClG.jpg http://i.imgur.com/brtPNaI.jpg I added some yellow lines on the flamer as they have appeared on the chainswords of the other members and i wanted to keep some uniformity. I also painted some red on the flamer, it was looking too flat and boring being all black. All comments and criticism welcome! ~Replica- 87 replies

A little more progress on this chap - I tried doing the 'burnt steel' look on the tip of the flamer. I had done it before over metallics and found the metallic paint muted the colours, but when doing it over NMM they looked far too bright. I had to go back over them with a cold grey glaze to bring them back down so that they were noticeable, but more subtle. http://i.imgur.com/pziPn32.jpg I have also finished up the blue on the Mk3 backpack. I hadn't realised just how different this design was from the normal backpacks, until i started the shading and highlighting process. http://i.imgur.com/VVs3dzx.jpg Thanks for looking, all comments and criticism welcome!! ~Replica- 87 replies

Thanks mate! Legs are done - these legs were a real challenge for me, the shapes of the armour is quite different from the normal legs, so i tried to get the shading and highlights correct to really emphasise the shapes. http://i.imgur.com/y8UvWKD.jpg http://i.imgur.com/xIYOuTe.jpg http://i.imgur.com/0BmkRl7.jpg Thanks for looking, all C&C welcome! ~Replica- 87 replies

Sorry for the double post - time for number 4! The 4 GW models all have bolters and close combat weapons, so I wanted the squad to have 4 bolters, 4 close combat marines, 1 special weapon and 1 heavy weapon as well as Cassius and possibly a standard bearer (but probably not?) For the special weapon, I thought what I'd want if i was fighting nids- flamer. This one is from the Mk3 or Mk4 kits: http://i.imgur.com/4mcKwoD.jpg http://i.imgur.com/Wk4H3HS.jpg I also wanted this dude to have some close combat option, cause unlike the nids, flamer fuel runs out: http://i.imgur.com/6bplfBw.jpg I used the legs from the Deathwatch kit, and the chest is a Mk5 with the UM icon from the upgrade kit slapped on the front. I wasnt sure if it was going to work but was pleased with the outcome. All C&C Welcome! ~Steve- 87 replies

Cheers mate! On the newest guy I did the scratches with a dark blue instead of black. I also chips along some of the edges, like on the feet which were just dots of dark blue that i brought the edge highlight under. I hope that made sense haha! This dude is done! http://i.imgur.com/9XVJifM.jpg http://i.imgur.com/0IRbNgy.jpg http://i.imgur.com/xDDnbvP.jpg http://i.imgur.com/Tg1DoWO.jpg http://i.imgur.com/cx4X9PA.jpg I am by far my own worst critic and tend to focus on the imperfections and overlook the things that worked well. So I always try to find something i like for everything i dont like. For this one, I like the weathering and the NMM - but I think the white on the helmet, and the black on the bolt pistol are let downs. I also took the opportunity to get a group shot to check the uniformity within the squad: http://i.imgur.com/1eS61Ny.jpg Thanks for looking - all C&C welcome! ~ Replcia- 87 replies

Thanks mate! couple more days on this guy, then on to the next one! Cheers mate! Its time consuming, but its loads of fun when it works out! The colours areall Vallejo - model color Prussian blue, with magic blue and electric blue highlights, then an extreme highlight of sky blue and some reflections in pure white.- 87 replies
