New Edition, or Just Horus Hearsay?

I feel like us old Gen X gamers will have a leg up with the 'your mother's approach that it'll be borderline unfair! -

They could make good recon or seeker marines - perfect for a kitbash -

I'd say that it's definitely a beakie helmet as well - has the shape for the eyes and I think the sensor module on top -

My guess, it looks like the a whirlwind missile tank, similar to the 2nd edition epic version / 2nd edition 40k metal/plastic hybrid. Very nice!! -

Looking for underbarrel grenade launchers
Cloud Runner replied to Jamafore's topic in + GENERAL PCA QUESTIONS +
Alternatively, you could get some Grey Knight teleporter packs, snip off and trim a little the sticky out bits and voila, underslung launchers. they make great sniper barrels too :) -
Agree totally with Carlson793 - zimmermit is really easy to do, and loads of tank modelers add their own textures - google will find you loads of examples and tutorials. For the non slip, I have been toying with the idea of a couple of strips of fine checker plate plasti-card in certain areas to give the idea and let the observers mind fill in the blanks as it were. For tow cables, a really great way to do it is using picture hanging wire - it coils and loops brilliantly, has the texture of the wire 'rope' and you then just need the end loops, which can come from the plastic version. the real bonus is that it's flexible and can be maneuvered into whatever position you need, adding again to the realism as it wraps around the structure.

Whirlwind turrets

The deredeo launcher has a much smaller turret 'pin' than the hole on the razor back top, so you'd need to build up a specific mount purely for it. However, I know that the hole in the razorback turret ring is the exact diameter of a UK 2p piece, so you can use that as a guide on some plasticard or something :D

@Imren - that is just the stock FW launcher on a base plate - pretty certain it's separate to the legs. The Kromlech ones look good, and there's various other options out there too - have a look at the bits suppliers list thread and I'm sure you'll find loads of variations. I will say that Kromlech/Maxmini have fantastic quality in their parts and the shipping is very reasonable - you can get 3 of their whirlwind turrets for that single FW defence platform. Finally, as an alternative to eBay and bits sites, have a look on the various Facebook trading groups - you might be able to snag a bargain - I've had a few good trades from there :)

I use Halfords gloss spray varnish - couple of thin coats from a distance seals the sheet, and makes it useful. I used that back in 2006/07 and the sheet is still fine today (it was army campaign badges, hence not having used massive amounts) It's also good as a gloss coat on mini's, though it does take a but longer to dry (it's designed for cars) but that's not usually an issue for me. EDIT - meant to say that it is an aerosol laquer can - great stuff

As an alternative to the razor saw (which is great, though sometimes heavy) I would suggest a jewellers saw like this https://www.amazon.co.uk/Faithfull-FAIPRS-TB-Piercing-Saw/dp/B000297TEY/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1500900711&sr=8-1&keywords=jewellers+saw Able to get into fine areas, and doesn't obliterate so much detail - takes a little more care to use (the blades can snap very easily) but it's brilliant for getting into hard to reach areas.

[HH1.0] Dark Angels Tactics
Cloud Runner replied to Frostmourne's topic in + WARHAMMER: THE HORUS HERESY +
Given that the open day they announced a HH specific ruleset that's staying largely 7th ed (from what I recall) I think RoW and other such items will remain as is. It's a shame that they won't be any crossover (for one offs or weird warp storm incidents) but I suppose it enables FW to get a set of rules that fits the theme better, than trying to get a theme to fit a set of rules. Also meanes that the books don;t have to be reprinted again, as the black books could be very costly to update, bith from their erspective, and that of gamers. Back to the task - Ironwing is great fun, and I really think it's worth mentioning a stock deredeo - great anti-tank and anti-infantry versatility (especially with the aiolos launcher as well) and they're schmexy to look at to boot :P My current 2,500 lists goes something like this Delegatus w/calibainte blade and some other minor toys Damocles Contemptor - 2 x twin-choom cannons (for fun) sniper Vets - 2 x flamer, p/sword in rhino sniper vets - flamer & acid h/bolt, p/sword in rhino Tac sqd - p/sword in rhino Tac sqd - p/fist in rhino Tac support - 10 volkites in rhino seekers - p/sword in rhino scorpius (great anti-infantry) Deredeo - autocannons & aiolos Sabre squadron - 3 vindicators w/laser destroyers The damocles, scorpius and deredeo hang back, while the rest kinda advance as a wedge, with vet's outflanking The exterminators rule makes all the rapid fire weapons great fun, and the choom is added for flavour. Competitive list? It does ok. Fluffy list? I like to think so Fun to play? absolutely great Also has weight of numbers for countering that awful legion downside -
Anyone used Vallejo Game Color washes?
Cloud Runner replied to Brother-Chaplain Kage's topic in + GENERAL PCA QUESTIONS +
I love the Vallejo washes, inks and whole range. For me, I add a drop of Vallejo matte varnish into the ink washes, just to aid flow a bit and to make it less shiney too! -
