To add to the contemptor fest........ I've been building this on and off since christmas. Getting him a twin buddy soon :) Not the best pics ever but you get the idea. http://i1091.photobucket.com/albums/i388/jimmimellows/20120729_173407.jpg http://i1091.photobucket.com/albums/i388/jimmimellows/20120729_173321.jpg http://i1091.photobucket.com/albums/i388/jimmimellows/20120729_173340.jpg http://i1091.photobucket.com/albums/i388/jimmimellows/20120729_173236.jpg http://i1091.photobucket.com/albums/i388/jimmimellows/20120729_173321.jpg May add a few more pics from a lower angle to give more detail of the legs. You can follow the link in my signature to see WIP sculpting etc. Love Kizzdougs IW contemptor a lot, very nice. Thanks

Awesome as usual. That land raider trim really is something else. Love your moulds too, that brick sized one is very well done....nice colour too. Really glad to see how symetrical and crisp your castings are coming out. Looks like you managed to sort out your shrinkage issue. Now i know you've designed all of your stuff based on black legion. The question on my lips is when are you doing a World eaters set. In all seriousness, i can see people buying lots of these. I'm tempted myself. As ever, i really look forward to seeing what else you can conjure up. My Worldeaters are grinding to a halt at the min and progress is as ever slow, so its nice to see someone progressing to such a high standard week by week. cheers, Jimmi

I can't believe that i didnt spot this sooner. I wish I had, as i've been converting a a chaos contemptor myself and had the same problem with beads. I ended up getting several sizes of craft type micro beads, i think 1mm and 0.5mm, from a lady on ebay. It looks like you got sorted in the end and the result is looking sweet. Nice trim sculpt too, painful and tedious to do but well worth it. The head fits really nicely too. Looking forward to seeing the paintjob and base, keep up the high standard.- 527 replies

I have to say i'm not a afan of the normal defiler based kitbashes i.e defiler converted into brass scorpion. You , however, have nailed the titan, its absolutely wicked and truly inspirational. You can't really spot the individual parts as you can on most other things of this type. I think its because you've picked and used the parts so well that its such an effective conversion. As subtle discord says, its chaos personified. I too am tempted with my own version, although the FW one is been the apple of my eye for some time. I'd be nterested and grateful if, once you get the torso and arms done, you could post a list of the parts you've used and rough cost for comparison with the FW one. I suspect a few people may be asking the same thing soon. No worries if you don't want to relay that info, no harm in asking :) Seriously awsome stuff here, i'll be watching this avidly as i'm a Worldeater myself!!!

Not got enough time to do a proper post as i'm busy at work, however........... Sorry i've been AWOL for a while.......real life and all that. Its all looking sweet as is the norm, you've made loads of progress. Its really interesting to see how you cut rivets, that multibladed razor is such a good idea, consider it a borrowed technique! As for what the previous posters said about bits and a shop, i wholeheartedly concur that you could pull it off. Have you had anymore luck with the 3D computer drawings? Just in case i missed it, are you planning on getting those models 3D printed? Im currently also dabbling in 3D modelling as we finally got Solidworks at work. Its amazing but making my head hurt!!! Its also a main reason for my inactivity on the forum. Anyway, must dash but as always, awesome stuff.

Hi there, Sorry, i meant to comment on this a bit sooner. Your 3D models are looking very nice it must be helping to visualise how to break flat parts down more easily........not that you seemed to struggle before. Lovely combibolter concept. Hope you get to the bottom of your shrinkage issues, i guess once you figure out the percentage you can upscale any drawings etc to take it into account. I just grabbed our caster as i walked past and asked him about the new resins i mentioned in the PM. Apparently it is not the Forgeworld stuff however, he has used 2 new resins which may be useful for you to investigate in small batches. Both are 2 part liquids that you mix 50/50 to start the catalyst reaction. Both can also be pigmented and painted. Not sure about shrinkage but he seemed to think they didnt shrink by much. I said you had a pressure caster and he thinks you'll have very few bubbles etc using either of these 2 types........anyway, hope that helps a bit. They are as follows - Rencast FC52 and Smooth-On task 2

Well, thats all looking fantastic as is the norm. The pred is really really nice. I like the wide bevel on the green stuff joint, it fits nicely and looks much more aesthtic than a crisp 90 degree edge. Particularly like the ammo clips, i hate ammo belts for the same reason as you do. They look like they were quite fiddly so bravo for that. Prince jump pack is also coming along nicely, the tubes should look sweet. Im debating how much trim i could get away with on my Diemos rhino without overpowering the FW kit, i feel like i need more than just some snazzy doors! Anyway, i've sent you a somewhat belated PM, Jim

Spot on stuff again, only just spotted the update. Glad to see you're getting the results you wanted from your moulds, the castings are looking sweet and it sounds like you are enjoying yourself. I should have mentioned a pressure caster before but we rarely need to use one with larger scale things we do at work, so it didnt even cross my mind. Im sure that will eliminate pretty much all your bubbling issues. Glad the talc helped too. Prince is looking sweet, i like the sound of what you have planned and cant wait to see it. I'm halfway through writing a somewhat lengthy PM to you. I had to hit save so i can go to sainsburys and get some tea but i'll hopefully finish it tonight. Im really sorry its taken so long, i cant begin to describe how busy ive been both in and out of work. I've hit my major deadline today so hopefully my hobbying and forum lurking can pick up again.

Hi there brother. That launcher is looking very nice. You have the mouldmaking nailed by the look of it. You've built your mould the way our mouldmakers do them at work, including the little reliefs to lock both parts together. You get a knack for adding vents to the right places eventually, although it looks like your doing well so far. The damned artificer was spot on with the talc suggestion too, mould release can be a pain unless its a very large mould so that may help with the bubbles. A trick we use is to build our moulds into a box with an open top and a small hole in the bottom (so you can push the mould back out of the box with a pencil or something similar). We double sided tape the box to something that vibrates (so it can't fall off the vibrating object) once the mould is poured to encourage bubbles to the surface. We use a bobbin sander and sit our moulds on that for an hour whilst they cure, but a washing machine or similar may work just as well. Ive been exploring the lasercutting and im still looking for alternatives to styrene, im going to ask one of our suppliers about it tomorrow, although it may be that we are limited to just acrylic. This is still fine for flat designs and to build up patterns for a mould to cast rhino sides etc, using the technique you have already, or even a simpler open topped mould if the sides are really thin. You can also, to some extent, bend the acrylic around curves a reasonable amount before it will snap. Hopefully i can demonstarte this on something soon. I'll send you a more detailed PM soon, i promise. I have some pretty imminent deadlines at work for the next few weeks so my modelling is slowing down a lot (if thats even possible the rate i work at), ive only had a few hours to spare on here but dont give up on me. Ill keep tuning in to this at every opportunity. Well done and keep at it, you just keep getting even better. jimmi

I cant argue with your technique, im quite lucky to have access to the equipment i do. I'm going to experiment with some styrene in the lasercutter, as we normally mainly cut acrylics. That triple lascannon looks awesome by the way. @alex567 - someone mentioned that the heads are quite different but with the amount of sculpting ill be doing to the contemptor torso, i may end up dremelling out the head rebate in order to take a larger head. I'll compare it better once i have the model, im just crossing my fingers for now. Thanks for the heads up.

I've just stumbled upon this and i have to say im really impressed. I'm planning on doing some pretty major "chaosification" of a contemptor dreadnought and the new pre heresy rhino from forgeworld for my world eaters army. By coincidence im doing the same thing as you but with a mixture of some brass etch and (cheating somewhat) i have access to a laser cutter and CNC machine at work. I'll do a lot of preplanning in autoCAD and cut it via machine. Utmost respect to you for cutting all that by hand, you've done it so well that it actually looks as crisp as machine cut plastic. Really well done. Needless to say, i've been inspired by this thread and ill be watching it intently now i've found it. I also have the black legion forgeworld dreadnought from my old black legion army, but i like the head so much that ive pulled it off the dreadnought to use on my contemptor once it arrives. I must say yours is very well painted, i love that you dont go mad with the black highlights, the metalics really speak for themselves. Awesome stuff *edit* i skimmed the prince jump pack text and ive just re read it and realised that you actually made that from plasticard!! I thought it was resin and have now come to the conclusion that you are both a genius and mad! (not in a bad way)

Somehow ive not seen this thread before! Some really nice stuff in here, im loving pretty much all of it. I think i'll subsrcibe to this. I wish i could give you some constructive criticism but i dont see how you could improve. Black is really hard to do and i was never really truely happy with my old black legion, you however, have hammered it big time. Well done old chap. -

Really amazing stuff hear. That Dark apostle is very good but i must say, your oblits are the best ive ever seen. Can i pinch your idea? The hideous standard models have prevented me ever using oblits and ive never seen a nice way to convert them before. Your conversion is what the original sculpt should have been like. Your Night lord is also extremely inspirational. The conversion is again very good but your paint job makes me want to quit my worldeaters and start nightlords. Your blue is menacing and individual and the lightning and glowing eyes are excellent. Never seen the glowing red done effectively before.- 527 replies

Very nice indeed. I'm aiming for the same kind of thing myself, halfway through painting the FW kit at the minute. Your mate should be very proud, he's done the bloodgod justice.
