How do you keep track of active/one use abilities?

As people have mentioned there is currently no universally accepted way of doing this. Some players just remember in their heads, most, especially newer players, id recommend using tokens. With the way hidden works in 11th now too, id recommend having tokens for that too. Lots of ways you can get/make tokens: 1. I have enough dice from various games that I can use those for tokens - e.g. the titanicus dice make great tokens for marking up which units in my admech army get which haloscreed override protocols each turn (the dice give me 6 'icons' to choose from) 2. For my space wolves i went a different route. I had some spare bases and loads of spare transfer sheets. Quick base paint layer on the base to match your army colour scheme (in my case snowy/white) - add a relevant transfer....you have quick and easy (and personisable) tokens. I went one step further using some slightly bigger bases, adding texture paint with gaps in it for 2 dice (the texture around where the dice go stop them falling off the base) - and use those as wound markers. 3. Super simple - buy plain plastic circle tokens and write on them. My mate has loads of these for his guard orders/tsons powers 4. Buy third party tokens, or wait for GW to release ones this edition. However after seeing the quality of the 'tokens' in legio imperialis, I wouldnt hold out on them being great quality. Cardboard tokens just dont tend to hold up well in tabletop wargaming from my experience (whereas something like a boardgame they are more applicable) -

I should be having my first learn to play 11th games down our club this weekend. Initial plan is running 30 GH, just as I have the models and theyre deserving a run out. Going to use the first 20 to split into 4x5 and then use 1 squad of 10 with the battle leader and shooty enhancement as a late game ingress option. Not sure the 10 is worth it but I had success with them last edition as a late game reserve once the battlefield is cleared a bit. Fillin out the rest of the list with headtakers, 2x scouts and maybe even a bloodclaw unit to have some early adv+charge threat....but definately wary that sending anything up early is going to probably end up with them dead haha.

I would read it as that too for the time being. No ingressing and then doing any other movement shenanigans that turn. For me the datasheet ability (in the speeder example) would have to have some sort of 'even if this unit made an ingress move this turn' addition to it to override the main ruling in Ingress (otherwise as you say Tigirius, that part of the Ingress rule would be pointless) At least we have access to some Adv+charge. Headtakers with Ragnar or Great Wolf strat (or bloodclaws) - with ven dread support, and the turn of rerolling adv+charges would still make this sort of length charge doable. No idea how you hide the vendread this edition but my (bad) maths here says on average its an 8" rerollable charge on average (IF everything aligns, which is a big IF). Great Wolf for all the extra movement stuff does seem like it might be the better take than beastslayer initially however. Doubling down on Logan for T1 drop terminator brick Although I still believe that you are right that this is a shooty edition still (from the practice games mates have been having, they are rarely getting past T2-3 because its even killier than before), I think we have to wait to see the points costs before making the final judgement. Ie in the WHC article yesterday they say any vehicles able to 'open up fire lanes by toeing into terrain' will be going up in points. They do also say that 'fast combat' is going up in pts too though...so who knows! But right now, playing 11th with 10th points seems to be seriously broken for some matchups.

Yeah i was happy for my space wolves as all ours were (quite rightly) 2 DP My admech though, urgh. Why is haloscreed/eradication 3DP (eradication has zero play data afaik) whilst hunter cohort (which won the world championship) is 2. And the priest 1DP is banned from joining the priest detachment. All i wanted was to have a silly gun enhancement in haloscreed, was it too much to ask! :D

Good to know, ive still not really looked into the dispositions yet, but my worry is that with certain detachments being tied to certain dispositions, were just going to see people playing the one 'good matchup' disposition and little else. Ie we just end up with a load of purge vs purge matches. But I guess if that happens we'll just see balance tweaks to how those dispositions score VP. yeah this will certainly be the last piece of the puzzle. 2 mates of mine who run our local gaming group had an initial match of 11th last night, tsons vs guard, using current points. Tsons had tabled guard by the end of turn 2. Hidden seemed to do very little and he could basically just see/kill every guard unit on the table if they were on objectives. So seems like significant points changes are definitely needed for some armies!

If oath goes I guess something like gladius could just change to you being able to have different units in different doctrines, or abilities to reuse doctrines easier etc. Would also have big implications for how the divergent chapters work, especially if their codexes aren't released shortly after CSM (ie would be weird if the divergent chapters kept oath and it was removed for CSM for example) Hopefully it means we see divergent chapters get their own unique army rules back (ie back in the day wolves had counter attack built in, or had +1 to hit on the charge - blood angels would get their +1S built in etc etc - and then detachments would have to be updated to further play around these) Would love to see oath removed though - also from my admech pov, please stop basing the army effectiveness on having cawl in every list GW!

All aircraft now just ingress in on T2, they dont move 20" or whatever on anymore, they just appear on a board edge...shoot...then go back into reserves end of your opponents turn. This would mean a transport 'aircraft' could only ever drop troop units off the edge they arrive on. Also the rules state that non-fly units cant charge aircraft anymore and you ignore it for moving through etc as its meant to be way up in the sky - so it would make no sense if that aircraft was able to drop people off and then not be charged. There is no switching between hover and flying etc anymore. Also, being an aircraft doesnt make you any harder to shoot down (afaik), so an aircraft and a hover unit are both equally as easy to shoot. So yeah, its a bit silly that a stormraven doesnt have the 'aircraft' keyword, but it would have made it useless as a transport if it did have it, and isnt any easier to kill for not having aircraft (again, afaik - im mainly going of this goonhammer article - https://www.goonhammer.com/11th-edition-40k-rules-deep-dive-special-unit-types/).

Hopefully thats the case, i also noticed that unlike the SM one, which lists a load of characters that now have support instead of leader, ours has nothing on this (youd thing the battle leader at least would get support as its our lieutenant essentially). But im slighlty confused as to where this stuff would go. Surely stuff saying 'you also get access to these units/these units can attach to terminators (for example), would be in the datapack? Grey Hunter detachment...i think 'absolute crap' is a bit of an overstatement. Really depends on how important actions become with the new mission sets. For someone who refuses to include intercessors in a SW army, it looks fine to me to boost the hunters I was taking anyway. 100% agree it should've been a datasheet fix, but multiple 5 man units at 15OC each running around doing actions whilst still doing other stuff seems not too bad. The enhancement actually makes their bolters fun on a big unit of them, despite it not really synergising with the combat squadding - 30 shots, ig cover, -1AP, reroll 1s/all hits from oath, sustained, potentially lethal (Beastslayer), and rerolling wounds against obj stuff. The TDA one id say looks the best on paper though as up/down +1 charge terminators are hard to sneeze at when combined with great wolf or beastslayer. But im not sure how useful the +1T enhancement actually is unless your facing hordes of heavy bolter equivalents.

Yep, all Space Wolves detachments confirmed as 2DP on warcom. Great stuff as none of them feel powerful now, (or had any real win data behind them) and leaves us with some flexible options for adding the new 1DP ones in. Very pleased with this (and that stormlance and gladius are 3DP). Hopefully we now see wolves lists actually using wolves detachments in 11th

THE reason I got so into 40k initially in the 90s. Nothing hit me so hard as the weird, dark, chaotic, dirty, sometimes comedic, often confusing but always world building art that John produced and that filled the early rulebooks and codex of my teen years. GRIM. DARK. A very sad day indeed. Thoughts go out to his friends and family. -
yeah id say not getting access to the 3DP ones at 1k isnt that much of a biggie. Competitions dont run at 1000pts usually (not without some house ruling), and if everyone is similarly restricted then you are just all playing with your army rule and 1/2DP. Outside of getting started games my group doesnt tend to play at 1k a lot, and a simpler 1k (not mixing layers of rules), is better for newer players. We tend to houserule stuff in anyway at 1k (ie a cap on toughness for some units), otherwise it can be really 1 sided, so some extra homebrewing to allow that new player to run a 3DP detachment at 1k in a friendly game really wouldnt be out the question.

The thing is beastslayer is arguably nowhere near as powerful as gladius or stormlance - AFAIK it has almost zero successful (ie actually winning) usage at tournament level, with most if not all of the SW win data coming from Stormlance, Gladius, and occasionally great wolf (the last of which hasn't been confirmed if we're even getting to keep). The new 1DP detachments may actually make us good (not great, just good) if combined with actual SW detachments. So if were unable to use them together with our codex detachments that will be a massive turnoff. I don't see a world where us having either combat squadding GH, +1 to charge terminators, or multiple uses of heroic intervention (which we still have to pay CP for), when combined with beastslayer, would be in any way broken. Its going to suck if our access to them is based on win rates that aren't coming from SW detachments. I've seen discussion about CS being 3DP because the way terrain interaction works and changes to heavy (you can move 3") making this much stronger in 11th than it is in 10th. ie You are going to be in terrain a lot more so anything that boosts off that is going to be way more effective. So im hoping they're doing better playtesting that just 'this is broad so its 3DP, this is narrow so its 2'. I was chatting to my mate who plays TSons yesterday and he was saying that Grand Coven had been confirmed at 2DP, which is both a broad set of rules, and competitively powerful right now.

So stormlance or gladius for us then , leaving all our SW specific ones as 2DP (one can dream right? )
