Nice shoes!!

Final group shot of all 10 Dead Assault Marines.

So all I have left to do now are 1 Devastator Squad, 2 Tactical Squads, 2 wounded Space Marines and 2 metal dead Space Marines from GW. I've already started on one of the Tactical Squad - the flames are done, as well as the metallics. Just need to paint their helmets, weapons and add the blood!!

Brother Morgan.

Some more dead/wounded Legion of the Dead Space Marines:

gallery_28844_5325_736062.jpg

This poor marine has been butchered! Guts spilt, brain exposed and right hand gone!

gallery_28844_5325_358365.jpg

I think I need to gloss the blood some more so it looks really fresh and bright.

gallery_28844_5325_511242.jpg

"Man down! Man down!"

gallery_28844_5325_44310.jpg

Who put the banana skin there?

gallery_28844_5325_41450.jpg

"One shot, one kill". This has a small amount of work left to finish. Just the backpack to be painted with a splattering of milliput added at the top to represent brain matter and blood. I tried to model this marine as though he had just been shot, with the body just realising what has happened - His arms have dropped to the side. In a fraction of a second, he will drop his bolter and crumple to the ground. I had planned on making a small diorama out of this model. I wanted to have him standing next to a wall, with blood splattered on the wall at exactly the right height (over the top of his back pack). I was planning on making a cross hair sight and making it part of the diorama. This would allow the viewers to pretend they were the sniper.

Perhaps, I'll come back to this in the future.

gallery_28844_5325_41852.jpg

Small entrance wound, huge exit!

I have a few more to finish off, which I'll post over the next few days.

Regards,

Brother Morgan.

Some more WIP shots:

Minefield casualty. Just need to put some snow flock on the base to complete this one.

gallery_28844_5325_69108.jpg

gallery_28844_5325_182895.jpg

That damn sniper is good! His brains have been splattered out the back of his head. If I had less shaky hands, I would apply a bit of purple underneath his eyes to make him look more undead. I don't want to ruin what I've done so far, so I may leave it alone.

gallery_28844_5325_186569.jpg

Here's a close up of the contents of his head!

gallery_28844_5325_12030.jpg

Rear view

gallery_28844_5325_212522.jpg

Must have used dum dums!

Just the base to finish this one with his dropped bolter next to him, then I will move back to my Spartan Land Raider.

Just absolutely awesome!

I've wanted to do this myself, but haven't had the time or money.

Cool to see someone actually do it!

It made me think of tactics though. I can just see a company of Space Marines advancing across a snowy field, and the enemy, whether they be traitor guard, Tau or some other squishy enemy, using fallen Space Marine bodies as cover. After all, those bodies still wear the toughest armour around. Nice to hide behind. Would be interesting to play a game where that was actually possible.

Finished my head shot SM:

gallery_28844_5325_400758.jpg

The blood and gloss varnish is drying on the 2 other casualties.

I have far too many projects on the go at the same time:

1) I've started to paint the Heavy Assault Land Raider on my other blog.

2) I have a squad of dead Devastators that need to be completed, as well as 2 Tactical squads and special weapons.

3) Parts for my Spartan have arrived and I want to continue building as well.

4) My 10cm Large Scale SM running with a double handed chain axe needs to be undercoated and painted.

5) My 10cm Large scale kneeling SM needs to be completed and then painted.

These are just the top 5 projects that I want to get completed the quickest. I then have plenty of more plans.

For future projects, I am in the process of purchasing/already own parts for:

3 Storm Ravens. I want to extend 1 (Probably use the Chapterhouse Kit for this), convert 1 to become a Storm Eagle and see if I can make the last 1 come in size between the Thunderhawk and Storm Hawk.

Large Fortress of Redemption based outpost ( to go with my existing skull outpost). Rather than having just 1 kit, I want to get 2/3 and convert them to fit into one large square fortress with some form of gatehouse with the Reaper tower in the middle of the fort.

I have enough parts for 2 Baneblades/Stormblade etc. Not sure what to do with these as of yet.

Make a Dreadnought Drop Pod.

Make a titan size plasma gun mounted Land Raider - just missed out on buying one of these on ebay - damn!!!!!

Too many ideas, not enough time!

Regards, Brother Morgan.

Apologies for the Threadomancy but I finally got around to converting some dead Terminators from Assault on Black Reach that I had not built to go with the Tactical, Heavy Support, Assault and Scouts I've previously made:

http://images.dakkadakka.com/gallery/2014/8/4/635575_sm-Dead%20Terminator%20WIP%20Group.JPG

I had some fun chopping the back/front off torso's and moving legs and arms. I used a bit of milliput to hide any obvious cuts. The Terminator in the top left hand corner is supposed to be on the way down after being shot and not laying flat.

http://images.dakkadakka.com/gallery/2014/8/4/635574_sm-Dead%20Terminator%20WIP%20Group%20shot%20plan.JPG

Here's a plan shot.

http://images.dakkadakka.com/gallery/2014/8/4/635571_sm-Dead%20Terminator%20WIP%203.JPG

This Sergeant has been psychically killed with no signs of wounds. Bending the leather tassles dangling between his legs were a nightmare!

http://images.dakkadakka.com/gallery/2014/8/4/635570_sm-Dead%20Terminator%20WIP%202.JPG

Lascannon shot to the primary heart.

http://images.dakkadakka.com/gallery/2014/8/4/635572_sm-Dead%20Terminator%20WIP%204.JPG

Though it's difficult to see, I added a plastic skull into his mask.

http://images.dakkadakka.com/gallery/2014/8/4/635573_sm-Dead%20Terminator%20WIP%205.JPG

This head shot has just knocked him off his feet.

http://images.dakkadakka.com/gallery/2014/8/4/635569_sm-Dead%20Terminator%20WIP%201.JPG

Face down in the dirt!

http://images.dakkadakka.com/gallery/2014/8/4/635576_sm-Dead%20Space%20Marine%20Biker.JPG

and finally, a dead biker.

It'll probably be a while before I get some paint on these boys! Till next time, Brother Morgan

LoL loved the head shot. It reminded me of the writer Mickey Spillane (sp) on why his characters always carried .45's.

He said "they go in the size of a dime and come out the size of the cash register".

Lots of really fun stuff here which is what the hobby should be about when it's all said and done.

Not quite dead Space Marines this time but some dead Chaos Renegade Imperial Guard I've made for scenery/objective markers:

http://images.dakkadakka.com/gallery/2014/8/25/642026_sm-Dead%20Chaos%20Renegade%20Sgt%20WIP.JPG

I've used the FW Chaos Renegade kit as a base. This is the "Sgt" of the squad. His back was sawn and filed smooth to ensure he lay completely spread eagle. Like good soldiers, he died clutching his weapons!!

http://images.dakkadakka.com/gallery/2014/8/25/642030_sm-Dead%20Chaos%20Renegade%204.JPG

I love this model! Apologies for the slight blurring on this photo. I scooped out some resin and then added some Warhammer Zombie intestines to give the impression he has literally just been cut in half as he was about to use a grenade!

http://images.dakkadakka.com/gallery/2014/8/25/642029_sm-Dead%20Chaos%20Renegade%203.JPG

This one involved a lot of cutting of Cadian legs to look like he had just dropped dead "naturally". Milliput was used to smooth the gaps.

http://images.dakkadakka.com/gallery/2014/8/25/642027_sm-Dead%20Chaos%20Renegade%201.JPG

Lots of cutting, sanding and milliput was used converting these Cadian legs. If I had my time again, I would try and straighten his right toes rather than leave them with the stock bent toes look. For a change, I used a Catachan right arm that is uncovered to give a more "Chaos" feel.

http://images.dakkadakka.com/gallery/2014/8/25/642028_sm-Dead%20Chaos%20Renegade%202.JPG

And finally, this dead cultist/renegade had his legs heavily converted. These were fun to make and I plan on making a few more in the future. Paint will follow in a couple of months when I get the huge back log of Space Marine vehicles out of the way!!

Till next time, Brother Morgan.

Had the painting bug over the Christmas hols and decided to paint up as many different projects as I could. Talking of which...

http://images.dakkadakka.com/gallery/2016/1/2/767999_sm-Dead%20Terminator%201.JPG

I was hand painting and mixing/blending the flames on a couple of different projects as I tend to batch paint. I remembered these models that I made a couple of years ago and thought I could tick another squad off my "to paint" list!

http://images.dakkadakka.com/gallery/2016/1/2/768000_sm-Dead%20Terminator%202.JPG

This terminator died of a head shot. I'm really pleased with how the flames turned out on this one.

http://images.dakkadakka.com/gallery/2016/1/2/768001_sm-Dead%20Terminator%203.JPG

Rather than the usual face looking up, I went with a face plant on this one! This was an easy one to convert - all I needed to do was not add the front chest and head piece and a small amount of sanding of the crotch to make him lay completely flat on the floor.

http://images.dakkadakka.com/gallery/2016/1/2/768004_sm-Dead%20Terminator%204.JPG

Still WIP on these two - Bolter, Gold Bits and flames are done on the front one. I just need to add some white to the helmet and skulls and a quick sponging of gun metal and he'll be finished. The Sgt has a bit more work before he is finished.

http://images.dakkadakka.com/gallery/2016/1/2/768005_sm-Dead%20Terminator%205.JPG

and the final terminator who's just been head shot.

http://images.dakkadakka.com/gallery/2016/1/2/768006_sm-Dead%20Biker.JPG

The bike is finished (bar the mud behind the front wheel). The biker needs his helmet painting and some weathering.

http://images.dakkadakka.com/gallery/2016/1/2/768003_sm-Dead%20Destroyer%20Squad%202.JPG

and finally, I wanted some dead Mk IV marines after reading so much Horus Heresy material. I had a few Destroyer bits left and made these.

Back to work on Monday, so progress should revert back to snail pace!!

i love these, i found a bunch of saved pictures of these while trying to organize my inspiration folder and cursed myself for not knowing where i got them.

thanks!

You're welcome! I have a similar folder of conversions I've seen others do and store it for future projects myself.

Threadomancy time!!!!

Dead Devastator Squad

Here's the group shot of all the dead Devastator squad I completed today:

912529_sm-Dead%20Devastator%20Squad%20To

912528_sm-Dead%20Devastator%20Squad.JPG

Individual shots:

912522_sm-Dead%20Devastator%20Sergeant%2

912518_sm-Dead%20Heavy%20Plasma%20Space%

912523_sm-Dead%20Las%20cannon%20Space%20

912526_sm-Dead%20Missile%20Launcher%20Sp

912073_sm-Dead%20Heavy%20Bolter%20Space%

I used milliput to ensure I sculpted grips on the feet of all of the Space Marines.

Dead Heretics

Here's a shot of some 40mm bases I've recently finished:

912517_sm-Dead%20Heretics%2040mm%20bases

912513_sm-Dead%20Heretics%2040mm%20base%

912514_sm-Dead%20Heretics%2040mm%20base%

912515_sm-Dead%20Heretics%2040mm%20base%

912516_sm-Dead%20Heretics%2040mm%20base%

I had great fun making these from a mixture of Dark Vengeance, FW resin renegades, GW Cadian and Catachan parts and lots of milliput. My plan is (when I decide which model is going to be standing on the base) to dremel out where their feet will be placed to look like they have crushed the dead heretics underfoot!!!!

I also finished making a couple of dead heretics to be strewn on other bases:

912538_sm-Dead%20Heretics.JPG

912536_sm-Dead%20Heretic%207.JPG

I particularly like the entrails on these heretics! Let me know if you want any further shots.

Dead Tyranids

Some road kill I've completed over the past 2 years:

Hope you enjoy!!

Thought I'd share a few bases I've been working on recently:

952355_sm-Orgy%20of%20death%20base%21%20
I have recently read a lot of Siege of Vraks and I wanted to see if I could show a battlefield littered with dead bodies. I chose a large flyer base and after making numerous copies of different bodies, legs etc, I created this.....
The lone surviving Cadian is in the top left hand corner looking forlornly at all death he is surrounded by and praising the Emperor for letting him survive! I enjoy little things for example the lone boot on the flag and the Cadian that has been baynotted to death in the foreground.

952352_sm-Orgy%20of%20death%20base%21%20
I'm really looking to House Cawdor for Necromunda as they look perfect for Chaos renegades - more scum to be trampled upon on future bases!
952354_sm-Orgy%20of%20death%20base%21%20
952353_sm-Orgy%20of%20death%20base%21%20
This should be a lot of fun painting up using similar colour scheme to my landspeeder base:
941692_sm-Landspeeder%20base%202.JPG
941693_sm-Landspeeder%20base%203.JPG
941691_sm-Landspeeder%20base%201.JPG
I'll post some more pictures in the near future.

My personal favourite, this legionnaire has just been killed and has ploughed straight into the ground. This shows the moment just after impact. I'm not sure or not to add some more snow to the base to give the impression he has gone further into the ground. What does anybody else think?

Comment and critiques welcome as always.

Regards, Brother Morgan

while these particular models of yours are already finished(so you can't really change anything), my first thought upon seeing this guy was this:

This is fun stuff! I've been meaning to do something similar (though not on quite such a grand scale) but it's another project I just haven't gotten around to. Apart from the Tau casualties I built about a million years ago.

I have to disagree with all the "too much time/money" comments from the beginning of this. Touches like these are a way of making a game better, as opposed to just bigger. GW used to even make and sell casualty models. I'm not sure how many different ones they produced, but they were making them as late as 3rd ed with the Praetorian/Mordian casualties.

I've seen some pretty flagrant LOS abuse in the past, but this takes the MODELING FOR ADVANTAGE grand prize.

Not sure if you're serious on not Commodus, but these bases are used to represent battlefield attrition and are used after a unit is killed, NOT as active game units....

Thank you all for your comments. Just to confirm that if I were to play 40k, then these would be used to represent space marine casualties. I would replace killed troopers with corresponding “dead” models. I would then argue that these would then represent a form of cover - how many books/films do you see where they use dead bodies as shields from bullets/shrapnel?

I have been a Space Marine modeller for over 30 years and in that time, I have never played a game. Modelling, converting and more recently, painting I find more appealing.

With regards to the other races (tyranids, chaos heretics) these are a modelling challenge and would be used on a gaming table to give it more colour and make my bases look better e.g.

941824_sm-Deathwatch%20Veteran%20Front%2

941798_sm-Emperors%27%20Shield%20Deathwa

941782_sm-Metamarine%20Deathwatch%20Vete

941805_sm-Nightwatch%20Deathwatch%20Vete

Right, back to my next project ......

952366_sm-Crashed%20Lander%20WIP%201.JPG

More in the near future.

Regards, Brother Morgan.
