The Legion of Taurus - a Chaos Marine army log

Could you share your campaign/rules?

Sure, I linked to the campaign rules booklet in my previous post; but it's a Map based campaign, with players divided in to teams, under-pinned with a strong narrative-driven element.

The design/layout of the booklet was by a chap at our club, Kevin, who just happens to work as a Graphic Designer, creating lay-outs for magazines and publications. We aimed to present the campaign on the same level as how GW would have presented one of theirs, I think Kevin really pulled it off:

Firestorm that is a fantastic looking Campaign! It is really good to be back on the B&C and see some great inspiring stuff from guys like you! I think that it is great that you mentioned doing a codex for the Legion of Taurus, since I have done one myself for my Soul Reapers! Although I am currently in the process of updating it to mesh with the new Chaos Marine codex. When I am done I will link it in my new project log.

Call of Chaos V, Month 1, Update 1

So I'm taking part in Call of Chaos V, I will be painting a squad of 10 Havocs (2 ML, Autocannon, PG, Champ w/Fist & Plasma Pistol, Icon of Vengeance), and a FW Decimator.

This week I've been base coating the Havocs - I decided to do a Havoc Squad because, although I won't actually field these as a Havoc squad, what it means is that I've got 3 more heavy weapons painted, another Plasma Gunner painted, and some more regular Legionnaires finished. I only chose two units as I'm a really slow painter and didn't want to give myself too much of a headache!

Anyway, pic:

Next it's the maddening task of doing the metallics - a steady process of continually retouching mistakes and over-running paints. I will share pics of my progress soon.

Till then, thanks for looking!

The Legion is rising. Again. :(

Great to see you back Firestorm. That campaign looks pretty cool. Can't wait to see what your Codex looks like.

On a side note, do you happen to know where your friend Kevin found the pictures of the space battles? I've been looking for something like that for a while.

Call of Chaos V, Month 1, Update 2

So, taking it right to the wire, here's update number two for November:

http://i29.photobucket.com/albums/c274/firestorm40k/Legion%20of%20Taurus/CoC_V_Nov_2.jpg

That's the bronze/brass done (which is time consuming when you're as perfectionist as me!), I'd hope to have the trims done by now too, but I've not had as much time as anticipated. I've got some time off in December though so I'm optimisitc of getting these further underway by the end of next month. My plan is to get these to about 75-80% finished, whilst starting the Decimator this month.

More pics soon, thanks for looking! :teehee:

So shiny..............

 Yeah, they are until I do the silver trims - that always seems to offset the shiney-ness...

Apologies I never got back to you regarding that picture - I actually realised a few days ago that it wasn't one Kevin found for the Sourcebook, but one I found while doing a Google images trawl about 2 years ago... I'm sorry I can't remember from whence it originated... :P

Call of Chaos v, Month 2, Update 1

I've been chipping away at the Havocs; highlighted the silver metallics, need to give them a wash of black ink to graduate them:

http://i29.photobucket.com/albums/c274/firestorm40k/Legion%20of%20Taurus/CoC_V_Dec_1_zps24e59cb0.jpg

I've been working at these pretty consistently, grabbing 20-30 minutes most nights, so progress is typically slow. I also need to prime and base-coat the Decimator, hopefully will do that before next weekend (weather permitting).

There have been model-making distractions to the CoC painting. Firstly, I've been making these kneeling ML Havoc conversions - they ended up being pretty slanty, but they'll do:

http://i29.photobucket.com/albums/c274/firestorm40k/Legion%20of%20Taurus/Missile_Launcher_zps1b8c437f.jpg

I also converted a new Lord and a Dark Apostle from a couple of the DV models - Apostle needs Impurity Seals and gubbins to finish him off. These are A'shkaranoth, the Bloodied Hand of Tauran and Dormagatth, Proselyte of the Bull-headed God respectively:

http://i29.photobucket.com/albums/c274/firestorm40k/Legion%20of%20Taurus/Lord_Apostle_zpsb329d54a.jpg

I've also built a Maulerfiend:

http://i29.photobucket.com/albums/c274/firestorm40k/Legion%20of%20Taurus/Maulerfiend_zps6fe383d5.jpg

Finally, I've spent the last two months dealing with the quandary of 'how do you make the Helldrake look like anything other than a mechanical dragon?' Although I get the concept, I'm not a huge fan of the model. So, I returned to an idea I had a few years ago - seeing as several Imperial Aircraft are meant to look like the Aquila - symbol of the Imperium - I thought that a Chaos Aircraft should resemble the Icon of Chaos, the Pantheon Star. Re-positioning some of the wings enabled me to turn the Helldrake in to a Hellstar (with apologies to Junji Ito ;) ):

http://i29.photobucket.com/albums/c274/firestorm40k/Legion%20of%20Taurus/Hellstar_3_zps463ee500.jpg

The idea is that viewed from the front or above, it should resemble the pantheon star - I think it's on its way to do that from the front, but I need to extend the middle wings a bit so it looks more star-like from above:

http://i29.photobucket.com/albums/c274/firestorm40k/Legion%20of%20Taurus/Hellstar_4_zpseaac87c4.jpg

I got these assembled as tomorrow I am concluding our 40k Campaign with a massive battle in which I will be fielding 6,000 points of Legion of Taurus ;) looking forward to it immensely! I will post some pics in due course, as well as progress on my CoC commitments.

Till then, thanks for looking! B)

Great to see you back working on these guys and I love the Hellstar, its amazing how many cool conversions are being done with that kit. I may yet pick one up. Eagerly waiting progress on the Decimator as I love the look youve achieved there with the Tauren additions. :P

If I'm right, that new tail piece is one of the wing pieces from the Warp Talon set right? I don't if that scares me or what that the Heldrake makes it look so big, if that's the case.

Still, looking great! And just think of the ML Havocs as doing combat slides while shooting at a Baneblade. :P

No, it is actually a piece from the Helldrake Kit, believe it or not! I think it's meant to be part of the claw fins on the proper model.

Call of Chaos V, Month 2, Update 2

So I've decided that the metallics are finished enough, otherwise I will completely lose my sanity spend far too much time on them! So on to the other details - next grey highlights on shoulder pads, finish details on the weapons, and then then final details such as Horns and Lenses. I might actually finish these for the deadline! :P I also finally got the Decimator Primed and Base-coated.

I'll try and chip away at these between times during the period of madness that is Christmas :) you never know, I might actually manage a third update this month..! :) :P ;)

More pics soon, till then thanks for looking!

Call of Chaos V, Month 3, Update 1

Very quick update - I've been chipping away at the Chaos Marines, they're about 98% there apart from some touching up. I'm about 90% there with the Decimator - I took these pics last night prior to adding some rust effects to the chains on the back:

http://i29.photobucket.com/albums/c274/firestorm40k/Legion%20of%20Taurus/Decimator_Pip_Front_zpsb35b4c74.jpg

http://i29.photobucket.com/albums/c274/firestorm40k/Legion%20of%20Taurus/Decimator_Pip_Back_zpscdfa297b.jpg

Unfortunately the Butcher Cannon is bent - when we moved over the summer, somehow the Decimator managed to fall over in the box it was in on top of the cannon and it ended up bent at a 90 degree angle! :-/ I then slowly and carefully tried bending it back (using the patented hot water method for FW Resin), after about 6 or so attempts cracks started to appear in the cannon so I dicided it best to leave it.

Tonight I'm going to get the weathering powders out and rust the non-Brass metal parts of this up!

I'll post pics of the finished models on Friday, till then thanks for looking! cool.png
