Your first DA miniature.

It is indeed. The multi-melta was nicked from a Space Crusade miniature (this was back in the days when melta weapons used templates). You could get three types of legs for your Dread (if memory serves) - short, medium or long. These are the medium legs.

I bought the Dread from soemone I knew at School and spent quite a bit of time scraping off the thick layer of red paint from it with a knife. :D

I came across these the other hidden away in the loft and covered in dust.

Dark Angels were my first ever chapter and as you can see with the numerous colour changes to symbols as well as the black to green armour over the years they've been repainted a few times. I had about two companies worth at one point and this is all that remain.

Captains.

From left to right in the order that they commanded my forces.

Indeed Doghouse that is quite a collection and considering their age look in very good condition. The termy captain is particularly impressive.

Bear in mind that DA was my second army, so this isn't quite my first effort ever...but compared to my latest, it stinks.

and six years later:

Major advances include the use of inks, not mixing in glossy enamels, more subtle highlights (still a long way to go), blending...it is hard to get past how much nicer the new plastics look, though. A better comparison would be new and old work on the same model...I could show that with my metal cadians (my first army, so the difference in painting is even more pronounced)...if they weren't in storage a few thousand miles away.

Most of my early minatures have been repeatedly stripped and repainted so I have disposed of most of the evidence of my early attempts at painting.

Here are a couple of metal DA vets I have.

When I first started 40k (1 1/2-2 years ago) I wanted to do Blood angels. My first mini was one of those single biker boxed sets. I painted it red, and then when the new DA codex came out I realized just how cool the DA fluff was and converted, I was quite easy as the bike was my only miniature at the time!

Any way this was back before I learnt the wonders of stripping paint so the black of the ravenwing was just painted straight over! lol

Anyways I don't know where the miniatures gone (Damn Warp Storms) but I can assure it was atrocious.
