Chaos Gate anyone?

Widow maker

I do, I used to spend hours on end killing my friend's UM in multiplayer.

It was a great game with an excellent sound track. :P

There's also the following threads here in the Other Games forum:

Chaos Gate, Does anyone remember it?

WH40K: Chaos Gate under Win XP

Chaos Gate + XP = SOLVED!

Yeah, it easily beats Fire Warrior and Squad Command.

Probably beats Space Crusade&Space Hulk too.

Its a bit too different from the other 40k games though. (Rites of War, Dawn of War, Final Liberation(yeah, I know its epic))

Not in stores, you'd have to give them a call and ask if they can still make them.

There an old site with out-of-production games that had its download replaced with a message to contact GW if you want it.

So basicly, they have it, but they don't have it.

Still, its your best chance if you don't want to spend hours on ebay.

Definitely worth getting if you've never played it... Especially if you are an Ultramarine player. Ive spent literally hours playing and modifying that game. The genious of it is, that all the stats are recorded in files that can be opened as text... so if you feel like it, you can really screw things up... like making it so chaos cultists dont have enough action points to do anything, and just stand there... Or make it so that all the bolters (yours and enemies) can easily instant kill anything. that makes for some interesting skirmishes...

Basically. Buy it if you can. If you cant... I daresay you can manage to think of something. I spent ages getting it to run on XP, then about half way through, it stopped working again in the same way as before... Never mind. Ill try dosbox next time. Ie around about now :D

That is some fething amazing music...

I need to get it... T.T

But I don't like Ultramarines

And I've seen the cutscenes...

The Chaos Lord is so cartoony and funny looking! XD

I do love it because it has a 90's feel... Which Dawn of War lacks...

Just like I prefer the art of the 3rd ed rulebook and codices over the artwork of the 4th ed...

Sorry to Necro this thread, but I'm new here, and with X-Com about to come out, and Chaos Gate seeming to me at least to be the 40k equivalent of X-Com, I was feeling nostalgic, so I figured I'd post something about it. It's awesome. Keep replaying it, attempting to ensure I lose no marines throughout the entire campaign - it's always bugged out on me before I could complete a whole campaign, however. Has anyone ever completed a campaign, side missions and all, without losing a single Marine?

Anyone got any favourite squad set-ups they found particularly fun/useful to that end? :D

Back in the day, I played through the campaign many a time. There was a couple of times I got through the whole way without 'losing' any of my marines.

When I say "Without losing", I mean that I saved it regularly. Very regularly. And reloaded any time I got a man down

It did mean some of the larger maps took many hours to complete, but that was ok with me

Any time I try to play it now, I get a few games in, and it bugs out. can't even load my saves as it crashes as soon as it loads :(

Good memories though!

Its a great game; my copy is buggy as the warp however; every couple of turns it crashes out, and corrupts a save. Which considering how long a turn takes, is a big deal.

Fun, but frustrating!

Very much this! Or the glitch where you guy gets abducted and then you couldnt complete the mission.

All that aside, I absolutely enjoyed playing Chaos Gate. I loved that flawed gem of a game.

The sound track is absolutely gorgeous. Wander over to youtube and check it out. No, seriously, do it now!

Dominus Pugnae is an amazing track.

A tip for chaos gate in the third or forth mission when you have to assault a chaos outpost and one of your guys gets teleported away (hopefully not ur über heavy guy or awesome assault marine) the following level when you have a chance to modify your units move the open slot left by your missing guy to your devastators and the forth guy will have the heavy weapon. Move a guy to the fith spot and be also gets a heavy weapon. Shuffle them all down and open up a spot again. Eventually you can have a whole unit with heavy weapons rather than just two!

Edit: for spelling

I'd love to play that again, but I can't get it to work on Seven/Eight... Any tips ?

EDIT : Nevermind, setting to W98 compatibility works well :D Boy, this brings back memories, this game is fantastic for the time ! Nothing to envy to X-Com save for the graphics ^^

I wish we could have some 40k (non skirmish) turn by turn PC game these days :D
