The Land Raider Ares and You!

I wandered over the the UK GW web site today to see if any of the promised Chaos sheets from this month's WD were up yet (which they're not - big surprise) and happened upon the data sheet for the Land Raider Ares instead.

....This thing is awesome. Really awesome. Twin-linked assault cannon, sponson-mounted twin-linked heavy flamers...and a Demolisher cannon! Check it out here. It's under the Space Marine section, but still...any Loyalist data sheet is also a Chaos data sheet!

I'm thinking that I might have to drop by my GW store and add this thing to my Iron Warriors. Two of these alongside my Baneblade would be great! Backed up by my Basilisk battery, I'll have the perfect siege force.

Don't mean to rain on your parade, but I'm fairly sure that you have to convert that yourself as it is only a quasi-official design and therefore doesn't have its own kit.

Uh....yeah. I know. ;) But I've got a couple of twin-linked assault cannons left over from some Dark Angels conversion sprues, and heavy flamers from a Baneblade or two. All I'd need to do is pick up a Land Raider and a Vanquisher. Convert it up and be left with enough parts to do a Rhino or a TLHB Razorback.

I would not get the Vanquisher if i was you, but you will need a vindicator, some plasticard and to make it look really cool FW extra armour.

I agree that it would look awesome but it a huge amount of money for it!

Anyway good luck with the conversion's.

Yeah, Vindicator. That's what I meant! I picked up a Linebreaker squad last night at my GW store. From talking to the black shirt there, he said that this was it for the Linebreakers - they'd completed their population run. So...no more Linebreakers. Makes an interesting question of whether all Apocalypse boxed set - Emperor's Wrath, Emperor's Fist, Suppression Force, etc - are all limited runs.

Yes they are all limited. That's been told to us since they came out. Hence why vortex grenade templates sold out within minutes of hitting the U.S. Jerks. "Let's only produce 1,000 of what can be described as the coolest accessory we've ever made for 40K."

I would make one, but as it's only Apocalypse and I don't get to play that much of it, and I'm lacking funds, it probably won't happen. Never say never though...

And on that topic - seems they're still making the Baneblade and from talking to the ladz at my GW store, it still sells fairly well. So....since it was a test bed of their new manufacturing technology (and it is damn sweet!) in order to develop new models, any word yet on whether they are actually rolling out the plastic Valkyrie they've modeled, as well as the rumored T-hawk? I could use both for my Iron Warriors - the Valkyrie for my Medrengard Auxilia, and the T-hawk for my Iron Warriors themselves. Death from above! Ride the Earthshaker rounds in, baby!

IMO, it's far from awesome. :P

If you rule that PotMS will let your fire the D Cannon along with it's other weapons (otherwise, being ordinance, it's one or the others), the Side Sponson Flamers, due to Template sizes and not being able to have a template cross any part of the Raiders hull itself, will be unable to hit the same target.

I suppose, if you're willing to pay the extra 175 points for an extra one front armour (and the increased side/rear armour), it might be worth it.

But then for that amount you could have a second Vindicator and a second D Cannon...
