Hi All,
I decided to create a few datasheets for my Iron Warrior army and I thought I'd start simple. I wanted to have a siege company datasheet that would be fluffy and a good basis to build an army. It is based off the Battle Company from the Apoc book cause I didn't want to go too crazy in my first try. So here is the first of hopefully many, C&C Welcome
Iron Warrior Siege Company: 300 points + models
The Iron Warriors were once the battering ram of the Great Crusade, the Emperor's finest siege specialists. Although they are masters of all warfare, it is in the sieges they truely excel, no walls will stand before them and their goals. Like their fellow Traitor Legions, one Iron Warriors army is rarely constructed the same as the next. Lord Commander Tigurinum the Stalwart however has faced off against these heretics in multiple engagements and has noted that the majority of their siege armies are structured around a core which rarely changes. These "Siege Companies" are built of hardened siege troops who form the base upon which specialised units like Terminators or devestating Obliterators and Deamon Engines are added to create Grand Companies and full siege armies.
1 Captain (Chaos Lord)
0-1 Squad Chosen or Terminators as dedicated retinue for Lord (must have a dedicated Rhino for chosen or Landraider for Chosen or Terminators)
6+ Squads of Chaos Marines. Minimum 9 man squads, must have a Rhino purchased per squad
4+ Squads of Chaos Havocs. Minimum 9 Man squads, must have a Rhino purchased per squad
1 Linebreaker Squadron Formation
Special rules:
Iron Within, Iron Without!: Iron Warriors are arguably the best siege tacticians in or out of the Warp. Coupled with this Iron Warriors are crossed trained in the arts of the Mechanicum. To represent this all units within the formation gain the Universal Special Rules 'Siege Specialists' and 'Tank Hunters'.
Tech Adepts: Being cross trained by the mechanicum Iron Warriors make extensive use of Servo-Arms. The Captain, Members of Chosen Retinue or any Aspiring Champion may purchase a servo arm at a cost of 25 points or a full tech harness at cost of (See Codex Space Marines)
Along with this the formation gains for following Assets:
Orbital bombardment
Hold At All Costs

Looks good I would also look adding a basilisk battery (possibly posessed)
And also Thralls, (cultuts)

Very nice and a good idea, however how about doing a lower points version (I know it's susposed to be a company but what about a warband?), with fewer squads etc. since how many people own 54 chaos space marines, 36 havocs and 10 rhinos in total?
, also perhaps free the size of the squads by allowing them to have as many marines as they want in each for the warband.
Also why do they have to have rhinos? I've always seen them as a mostly footslogging army as they butcher their way through trenches and then charge towards the enemies defences.
You could also have 0-3 squads of oblits since they've always had a special relationship with the IW.
As IronFather Tim suggested a basilisk battery is a good idea.
Plus since it's a company wouldn't they gain more strategic assets?
And finally hes not called a captain or a chaos lord, he is actually called a Warsmith
(I know this is over 2 weeks old but I just wanted to voice my opinions)

Armies: Deathguard, Deathwing, Death Spectres, Space Wolves Yes, I do quite like PA armies, and worringly, it would appear the word Death as well.

Thanks for the replies. Everywhere I have lsited this they say put Basilisk Batteries. I chose not to do this as it already includes the line breaker squad within, plus I didn't want the Basilisks to get tank hunters it's too dangerous to include the official rules as 10 shells firing at diff targets with tank hunters is rude, line breakers are forced on one target although I may remove that an keep it separate. I do intend to use the basilisk battery in my apoc army but as a separate datasheet.
Cultists is a good idea for a future datasheet as warsmiths usually have a large array of humans in the siege train, but for this formation it is simply a company of just iron warriors.
I also decided to remove the must have rhinos and turned it into may have. I based this on the battle company in the official book and i misread thinking they had to have rhinos but after reading more carefully I see thats not teh case so Rhinos are now optional. This is also the reason for the large number of people, it is supposed to be a full company, making siege, not a small warband making an assault. The reason for 9 marines minimum was to stop min maxing and old IW Fluff said iron warriors liked multiples of 3. 9 minimum but you can go higher, I plan on having 12 man squads so you get 2nd special weapon.
Oblits I will be featuring in their own datasheet in the future, but I may change the line breaker in squad of oblits, but once again I'm hesitant to give oblits tank hunters cause of their wide array of weapons.
The Warsmith arguement you are slightly wrong. This is a normal company not an entire grand company. A grand company is normally made up of multiple companies. The overal command is lead by a Warsmith, a regular company is lead by a Champion/Captain/Lord whatever you want to call them. This datasheet reflects one Captain and his men not the Warsmith himself. I have yet another datasheet in the works for the Warsmith and his personal retinue and bodyguard.
Future plans so far an oblit datasheet, IW Breach Takers, Warsmith's Bodyguard and possibly some other specialist siege equipment like Deamon infested siege artillery guns and a sapper/tunneller.
I have noticed a lot of replies on this and other sites all seem to say add more stuff, remember a datasheet isn't neccesarily an entire army, just one aspect. As it says in the datasheet intro this is the basis an IW army might use to build from. After you have a company then you start adding siege equipment (like basilisk batteries), tanks, super heavies, allies etc this is just a building block for making a large siege army, depending on your narrative, battle and size. That or you can use it as a basis to write fluff from. This formation is based on the official loyalist battle company but also contains elements of layouts in Storm of Iron book as it had 3 companies, a Warsmith, humans, equipment etc

I look foward to the future datasheets.
About the warsmith, I thought that it was a large warband, not part of a grand company
The skill only works versus vehicles and they can only use one lascannon per turn so it's no worse than giving it to iron warriors havocs etc.
Are you going to do a lower points version (warband), something you could do is instead of squads of 9, because of multiples of 3, how about squads of 6's etc.
Also you could include some defilers since daemon engines have a special relationship with the IW, (no idea why they're not in storm of iron but it makes sense for the final assault on whoever they're beseiging)
Finally, whats the most up to date version of the seige company?
