Modelling: How to make a Female Space Marine in Robes

Recommended Posts

Okay, you asked for it and here it is:

I've made a tutorial on how to do a quick and easy Female Space Marine. This is designed so that anyone can do it, regardless of your level of experience with green stuff, and takes about 5 minutes to do. All of what you are about to see I did in less then 5 minutes, and that includes picture taking time.

Click on a thumbnail for larger pics.

I am using the robed bodies from the Dark Angel Veteran Upgrade Sprue for two reasons:

1) Robes are a million times easier to sculpt then armor.

2) A pair of the Dark Angel Veteran sprues can be bought off the USGW online store for $20.00, giving you enough parts to make ten robed bodies (plus a whole bunch of other stuff) That is $2.00 per robed marine, which is an incredible deal.

http://i66.photobucket.com/albums/h261/DoctorThunder/Black%20Widows/th_DSC01056.jpg

First make yourself a ball of green stuff. (Keep your fingers and tools wet at ALL times or the green stuff will stick to it) Tomake robes you'll want to work with it fresh after mixing, when it is the most soft.

http://i66.photobucket.com/albums/h261/DoctorThunder/Black%20Widows/th_DSC01057.jpg

Create a fat sausage of it and lay it down across the chest. You'll want to make sure it is centered and the same thickness on each side so that the breasts don't come out lopsided.

http://i66.photobucket.com/albums/h261/DoctorThunder/Black%20Widows/th_DSC01058.jpg

Use your sculpting tool to pull the edges towards the belt, neck, and shoulder. You want it thin at the edges so that there won't be am obvious line where the green stuff ends.

http://i66.photobucket.com/albums/h261/DoctorThunder/Black%20Widows/th_DSC01059.jpg

Use the handle to seperate the breasts, and pull the extra material towards the edges like before.

http://i66.photobucket.com/albums/h261/DoctorThunder/Black%20Widows/th_DSC01060.jpg

Use your wet fingers and a light touch to smooth everything out and make sure that nothing is lopsided or drooping.

http://i66.photobucket.com/albums/h261/DoctorThunder/Black%20Widows/th_DSC01061.jpg

Now take your sculpting tool and create the little wrinkles in the cloth. The wrinkles will occur mostly on the sides and underneath. Start on the inside and pull outwards so that the green stuff blends into the torso at the edges.

http://i66.photobucket.com/albums/h261/DoctorThunder/Black%20Widows/th_DSC01064.jpg

http://i66.photobucket.com/albums/h261/DoctorThunder/Black%20Widows/th_DSC01065.jpg

Now you can glue the rest of the model together, but make sure not to touch the green stuff as you do it. It takes about three hours to fully cure. Never glue on the backpack until after you have finished painting.

Here she is, ready to smite whatever you need smitten.

Holy umm.... crap Batman!!

Nice tutorial, and one very well endowed female space marine. That would be my only negative comment on it, the size. But hey, :)

She can smite me ANY time... ;)

Maybe the chest plate of the PA is skulted to accentuate the figure underneath, we have all seen the breastplates of Roman Generals etc that are shaped to represent the muscles of the human torso.

Perhaps this has been done deliberately because they are proud to be female Astartes?

@DT - It is your army, and whatever you want to do with it is fine. Your sculpting skills are of a high standard so whatever you produce is going to look good, but I guess you can't please all of the people all of the time!

@Everyone else - surely you can appreciate DT's work without resorting to "THERE ARE NO FEMALE MARINES!"-type comments???

Ok Klown, welcome to your first official B&C warning, hope you don't get number two.

Everyone else. If you wish to comment on the sculpting, modelling then fine. If you want to go on some rant about why or why not female marines can be around, don't do it here. Next person to post something not about the modelling/painting aspect of this project will jump straight to warning # and get to take a weeks vacation.

A suggestion for those who want to maintain their posting privelages:

I'm just going to say this now. I dislike female Space Marines (I would say hate, but it seems wrong to hate something this mundane). But Doctor Thunder has been a long time supporter of female Marines. No-one post any arguement against female Space Marines, nothing of the sorts, if it helps, ignore it. If you don't like it, don't read it (that is what I am doing). Leave Thunder free to post his chapter and get feedback from those who wish to give it peace. Okay everyone?

Rofl I was expecting nothing less.

As I said I think the dude can actually sculpt, its just those things are <DELETED BY THE INQUISITION>ing retardedly massive even for a 28mm char.

So, when you make your own, use a smaller sausage and the chest will be smaller. There, problem solved.

It's a tutorial to teach you a sculpting technique. If you don't like it, don't use it, or, even better, click on the "Back" button on your browser, but please don't rant.

The model looks awesome and good job blending them in with the robe. Are you making them an all female chapter? I like to see what else you are going to do!

Yes, they are called The Black Widows. I have pics of the finished Herminators up in the Hall of Honor, and WIP pics of the Power Armored Marinettes in the WIP forum.

Ill show you some of mine sometime Doc. Ive got less endowed femme marines on account of a few factors ive worked into the fluff.

(Main one being that mammary glands are made mostly of fat and marines would have the majority of their fat reduced).

Most females that size (take a look at body builders) would easily be able to fit into power armour.

Interesting look never-the-less !

I would like to offer some constructive crit by saying less is more- they dont sit right ^_^ A little bit too silicone induced - not the size, just the gravity defying bit. They're a biiiit too out there. Hope that helps.

PWNT!

I agree

plus i like the sculpting work...

just a large chested girl,

and thats fine by me

but id rather just use SOB

cus i can't scuplt

and you get to use inquisitors

and half naked women with ***k off swords

and you can't get better than that....

bar the mistress with a whip to keep them in line

Per the fluff Female Space Marines have 21 implants, not the standard 19.

Seriously, if I do a SoB army (I will if I win a few auctions) I'll consider using this technique in addition to regular SoB models, since I'd like some variety in troops. That's half the reason I want scouts and Terminators in my homebrew chapter SM army. Of course, green stuff and I don't get along too well.

Certainly a different take on things! Nice one! The sculpting is fantastic, and you did a damn good job of blending it into the robes.

Keep up the awesome work, coz we need some completely different stuff every now and again to keep the hobby alive and interesting!

We need a button on here where we can throw pies at the people that don't like girl marines.

My only gripe is that you always make them so busty that it looks like your doing it as a joke, while I know it's actually a serious army.

Yeah, or teach them the difference between the "Reply" button and the "Back" button. ^_^

Okay, here, let me show you guys the difference. If I were making them as a joke, I would do them like this:

http://i66.photobucket.com/albums/h261/DoctorThunder/Black%20Widows/DSC01099.jpg

http://i66.photobucket.com/albums/h261/DoctorThunder/Black%20Widows/DSC01071.jpg

Instead, because this is a serious army, I make them like this:

http://i66.photobucket.com/albums/h261/DoctorThunder/Black%20Widows/DSC01069.jpg

See the difference? :woot:

Think the breasts are slightly too big in my opinion but nice work anyway!

That, good sir, is an understatement.

And I think that the last picture looks a lot better than the first one, or the joke one.

Is that a Wood Elf head btw?

Those heads look great !!

Gonna try get some. Ive found the amazon heads work really nicely with the scouts- tiny bit dainty- but cool.

Ill try get the pics soon- promise >_<
