a few questions

right had my fifth game with chaos in the new addition today, and i've got a coupla questions and some observations i've made.

1st off Lesser Daemons are very usefull now. A troops unit that doesent start on the board, has an invulnerable save and is cheap (relatively) is a very attractive unit in 2 out of 3 of the scenarios. My question is how many units and what size. I tried 3 5 man squads, but then got pulverised on kill points. (basically having 3 weak units that could be easy points) And with the one large squad i then could only grab one objective which doesent make a big enough dent when there are 5 around. any opinions?

2nd Chosen have infiltrate, so chosen can outflank. If ya buy em a rhino they can outflank in that. Is the rhino worth it? i am leaning towards it as they have been truly devastating in some of the games but then i am beginning to believe they'd be that good even without one. (for ya knowledge i run two chosen units, one with 5 plasmas the other is combat kitted) any opinions on this one?

and finally this is not to do with the new rules but do you get ya invulnerable save from your own daemon weapon?

As a DG player, I actually really like the Lesser Daemons for upping my model count where I would normally be severely outnumbered. They do well on the charge and I have found them particularly useful counter-charging orks that have already hit my lines. I like to run them groups of 10, points allowing. According to 5th ed. rumors, cult daemons will be seeing a buff in C:CM.

I don't use daemons anymore after they (Furies) lost flight. If I was going to use Daemons I'd use two squads of 8. Clocking in at 240 points (around the cost of a land raider] for 16 models, it doesn't take a huge chunk out of points needed for my core units and the size of the squads are resilient enough for the points invested.

I've been toying with the idea of going for two chosen squads again, I used to run with 2, both kitted for assault but, point restrictions (1500) made me drop one of them. I'd get a Rhino with either a combi bolter to keep it running after two weapon destroyed results, or a havoc launcher as the new blast weapons are quite good.

Yes you do as the DW only specifies armour saves as not working.

Do Lesser Demons count as scoring units in 5th?

Also, as i understand it, with blast weapons, you've got to roll for scatter, 2d6 minus BS. with an average 2d6 roll clocking somewhere around 7, that means an average 3" scatter. is that really good?

Yes they count as scoring units, and yes it's really good.

Here's a funny example from a recent match:

One of my Obliterators fired his Plasma Cannon at an Ultramarine player's Rhino. The shot scattered 8" and landed on top of a Tactical marine squad walking BEHIND the player's 2nd rhino. The result wasn't pretty.

They do count as scoring? Phenomenal.

Here comes 3 rhinos full of plague marines and bam! DEMONS!

On the blast issue, The major concern comes from the battle canon and scattering onto my boys. plasma canons kick ass, and now it may be time to strap on those havoc launchers.

what kind of strategy should be considered with blast template placement on a target squad? the middle to manage scatter?

Additionally, i've been reading some threads that lead me to believe that killing specific models has become easier, icons hv weapons etc... what/why/how?

Question, I thought it says buying a rhino for chosen, makes them lose infiltrate, can you buy them a rhino and still use them to outflank?

Yes you can:

Infiltrate also confers a special out flank move to units of infiltrators that are kept in reserve
+
Note that if such units are picked from their army list together with a dedicated transport , they may outflank with their transport, but if they do so they must move onto the table embarked in it
