Legio and Dark Angels

Recommended Posts

Just now found this thread to look through. After reading the history etc. I couldn't help but notice some striking similarity's with the Legio and the Dark Angels.

Being a DIY pre heresy Dark Angel successor (Pueri Ex Deus), I was wondering how to blend in a few of my troops to act as the liaison between the Legio and the Legion?

What "striking similarities" do you see? Whatever similarities might be present, we've established that the Unforgiven Chapters are very wary of the Legio. The Legio is known to have a strong relationship with the Inquisition (while it was much stronger in the initial fluff, we've been toning it down significantly in the WIP revision of the fluff - but it's still there). The Unforgiven Chapters definitely don't want the Inquisition or anyone who works with that shadowy organization to discover the truth about the Unforgiven Chapters and the Fallen. The Legio is composed of Astartes from practically all of the Chapters. The Unforgiven Chapters don't want the other Chapters of the Adeptus Astartes to discover the truth about the Unforgiven Chapters and the Fallen. We've basically taken the approach that, at best, the Unforgiven Chapters are very stand-offish with the Legio. They might send battle-brothers to the Legio, but they cooperate only insofar as they feel is necessary in order to reap the rewards (gene-seed).

Whatever liaison you would like to set up, we've basically established that the Legio's envoys make contact with the leadership of the various Chapters of the Adeptus Astartes, generally assumed to be the Chapter Master and his HQ staff or a duly appointed envoy (which might be due to the situation requiring an envoy - Chapter Master deployed to a battlezone or otherwise indisposed - or because the Chapter is scattered - such as the Black Templars). You could say that your Chapter has one of those unique situations in which envoys are appointed to deal with the Legio.

Note, though, that we've been working on revising the fluff for the Legio for some time. We've been tightening it up a bit. While we haven't made any sweeping changes yet, we might decide to adjust some things. Don't be surprised to see the fluff change in ways that you don't expect (alternately, things might stay largely the same - it's a crap shoot right now :D ). All I'm saying is don't get too wrapped up in a strong commitment to the Legio as things might change in ways that you don't expect. By all means, work the Legio in to your fluff if you'd like, though.

In the early part of M41 the Legio suffered a near catastrophic schism. One of the Inquisitors allied with the Legio had succumbed to Chaos and he led two companies in secret rebellion. Maneuvering his way into a position from whence he could take control of the Legio, the Inquisitor secretly made pacts with daemons. When his apostasy was discovered, the fallen Inquisitor fled into the Eye of Terror with his two companies. This Schism forced the Legio to reorganize and implement stricter controls, leading to the Legio as it is today.

The Legio During the Thirteenth Black Crusade of Abaddon the Despoiler

The Legio was very active in the Defense of Cadia, suffering heavy losses in the fighting. For reasons under investigation by the Legio, the fallen Inquisitor and his former Legio Space Marines were active in the Thirteenth Black Crusade of Abaddon the Despoiler and the Legio actively sought to destroy them. While they suffered the loss of an entire company in fighting against the fallen Inquisitor, the Legio succeeded in destroying the majority of their former comrades. The fallen Inquisitor survived, but the stain on the Legio's honour had been removed.

It's the whole fallen thing I was speaking of. Understandably the Dark Angel Legion is at odds with the Inquisition, but what better way to keep track of the goings on of the Imperium, the Inquisition, and other Brother Chapters than through ties with the Legio. If your going to hide, do it in plain sight.

The Three primary objectives of the Legio are not inconsistent with the needs of the Dark Angel and their successors. The few Dark Angel's and their successors who are attached to the Legio would surly be of the most stout and pure of heart to undertake such a posting. The honor of such a posting would not be lost on those who will undertake it.

All rewards come with risks, the intelligence potential is worth it.

Imo it'd be logical for the DA to send a member of the Deathwing to the Legio so he can work there to find possible rumours of a Fallen. As well as to insure that word of the Fallen is less likely to fall into the wrong hands.

But a new "recruit" to the Legio wouldn't be in any kind of position to influence the Legio's leadership. Also, that same logic (putting a member of the Deathwing in the Legio) would justify having a member of the Deathwing in every other Chapter of the Adeptus Astartes and all the other organizations of the Imperium.

This is getting good...

The fact that a member of the Inquisition brought the Legio to the brink of Chaos, is a serious stain on the Inquisition and certainly does question their motives and legitimacy within the Emperium. If anyone can understand why the Inquisition would want this to be an incident lost to all. The Dark Angels do. I would think that the stain on the Inquisition with their own fallen makes for a great story line.

Onisuzume pointed it out, Imo it'd be logical for the DA to send a member of the Deathwing to the Legio so he can work there to find possible rumours of a Fallen. As well as to insure that word of the Fallen is less likely to fall into the wrong hands.

It's not inconceivable that a fallen Inquisitor would attract Chaos Space Marines into his sphere of operations. The Deathwing have been hunting the fallen for centuries. The Inner Circle might have information that would be of interest to the Legio.

Brother Tyler's thoughts about " a new "recruit" to the Legio wouldn't be in any kind of position to influence the Legio's leadership. Also, that same logic (putting a member of the Deathwing in the Legio) would justify having a member of the Deathwing in every other Chapter of the Adeptus Astartes and all the other organizations of the Imperium."

As a member of the 1st Legion of Adeptus Astartus to be created by the hand of the Emperor, is it not conceivable that we are already everywhere.

Makes me wonder why no other DA have asked for inclusion into the Legio. Being the secretive, mistrusting lot that we are. At this time in 40K history, it's quite possible that now is the time for the DA to be involved with the Legio. And no, the Dark Angels don't seek the need to influence anyone. :jaw: But their are rumors of a tainted Inquisitor in the company of fallen Space Marines.

This is just a game, right!

I'm refering to the Deathwing chapter organisation, not the DA's 1st company...

Besides; its fairly unlikely that a large number of legio marines could stumble upon the information.

So if the aforementioned member of the Deathwing finds out about it, he could easily contact one of the Unforgiven so that those who stumbled upon the information become "lost in the warp."

Its not unusual for us to make meddeling inquisitors "disappear", so why not a few "meddeling" space marines?

We have eyes and ears everywhere...

Yes, even there.

Well, from the standpoint of the official Legio material, the Unforgiven Chapters don't send members of the Deathwing (anyone that has been inducted into any of the closely guarded secrets of the Unforgiven) to the Legio. Yes, there might be potential gains from having a member able to utilize the resources of the Legio, but there are even more potential drawbacks from members being under the influence of other Chapters and the Inquisition.
