The SW/TSons summer campaign

Two weeks are over and here is the result of our planning. I hope you guys like it and many of you will participate in our smal campaign.

The Battle for Kiartan

Wolf Lord Krom Dragongaze was standing at one of the viewing points on board of his personal flagship, the Dragonclaw; an Oberon-class Battleship that had served the Space Wolves as a Battlebarge for many thousands of years. The Wolf Lord was looking down at an ice-sheathed enigma: The planet Kiartan. It lay only two weeks of warp traveling away from Fenris. Kiartan is now a death world but that was not alway so. Sometimes in the past it must have been a planet with a large population; Many ruins attested this. But some thousand years ago an asteroid hit the planet and changed it's orbit to an eclyptical one. Now during the summer time, when it was closer to it's Sun, Kiartan is shaken by seismic activities and many volcanic eruptions. During the long and harsh winters, when the distance between the Sun and the planet becomes larger, blizzards make it an inhospitable place to be; all things considered, Kiartan was not unlike Fenris. Many deadly predators stalk through the tundra and forests and make the planet even more deadly. There are Ice Wyrms; Giant cold-loving reptiles that breathe shards of ice and have claws and teeth that can rend Adamantium.

Then there are the Fomorrians. Apparently the debased decendants of human colonists from millenia ago, they are little more than cold-loving subhumans in furs and skins, almost like kin to the Ogryn-kin of the Imperial Guard. But they had become rare. Only a few hundred had survived. They hide themself from the eyes of strangers.

And not to forget the Snow Wraiths. Seemingly intelligent clouds of vampiric snow/mist that settle around warm bodies and slowly leech the life from them. He hates the Snow Wraiths with a passion usually reserved for heretics; they had cost him several good men over the years.

Kiartan was use by the SW as a training planet. From time to time the SW invited other Imperial forces to use the planet also as a training area for winter combat. Once again His Great Company had came to Kiartan for training, but this time it was different. Strange things had happened.

Brother Ranulf cautiously led his pack of Bloodclaws through the pine forest, occaisionally silencing a rambunctious pup with a growled curse over the comm-net; this was no place for their high-spirited antics, as he was trying to teach them the fine art of hunting armed prey through unknown territory. Of course, in this case, the prey was a group of gun and combat servitors remotely controlled by a Thrall back at base-camp, but the lesson was still valid. That, and he had to keep an eye out for those thrice-cursed Snow Wraiths; one of his pups had wanderded into a den of them and had barely escaped alive. And then there were those Ice Wyrms...

Without warning, several armored figures rose from the snow around the pack, forming a perfect circle around them. As one, the new arrivals raised their rune-encrusted bolters and fired. Only the preternatural senses of the Space Wolves saved them, as they dodged and weaved around the glowing bolts. Brother Yuri wasn't as lucky, and a glowing bolt slammed into his chest, throwing him to the ground. But instead of the expected gaping hole in his armor, glowing bands of energy had surrounded him, and left him unconcious and restrained.

Ranulf recognized the attackers from many long years of fighting; the cursed heretics of the Thousand Sons. What were they doing on Kiartan? "Brothers!", he yelled, "Let's show these mewling spawn how Space Wolves fight!". With a roar, he gunned his chainblade to life and leapt at the silent blue-armored heretics. His first opponent made no move to stop the swing of his blade, only calmly slamming another glowing bolt into the back of Brother Gurni, who tumbled to the snow beside several other immobilized Bloodclaws. Ranulf's blade hit the heretic at the join of neck and helmet, and ripped the head clear off, sending a sparay of dark dust across the snow as the armored form swayed, then toppled.

With a glance, Ranulf took in the situation- Several of the Thousand Sons were down, but so were all of his Blood Claws. He tapped into the comm-net.

"Base... This is Ran..." was all he managed before a Thousand Son in ornate robes shot him twice with glowing shells from an ancient bolt pistol. The last he heard before he tumbled into darnkess was the Sorcerer laughing and commanding his men to retrieve the "subjects" and clean the battlefield...

Wolf Lord Krom Dragongaze was restless, and turned to his Rune Priest. "Are you sure?“

"Yes, my Lord“ said the Rune Priest. "They have been missing for a week now. We searched for them but we found no trace.“

"And one of the search teams also went missing?“, the Wolf Lord growled.

"Yes my Lord. Any instructions, my Lord?“

"Inform the other Imperial Commanders about this and ask for assistance. I want to know about the whereabouts of my men.“

Welcome to our Summer Campaign. To make things short here are the rules/informations:

When will it start/end: We will start on Sa 12th July. The campaign will end on Sa 9th Aug.

Who are allowed to play:

Because of the nature of our campaign only Imperial Forces and Chaos (including LatD) are allowed. No Xenos this time.

How to post your results:

Deneris and i agreed that each player can add his result alone. What needs to be posted:

Your list

Opponent´s list

The played Mission

end result

We only accepted your results if they included this informations. We don´t need a batrep but if someone wanted to write a batrep in form of a nice short story feel free to do so. Deneris and i will keep track of your results and we will give you at least one special mission for each week. Those special missions will give the side the mission is for some kind of bonus.

How will it run?:The whole campaign will run four weeks. Each of you will play as normal in your local games store / GW / gamesclub / at home however.

In the first week only kill teams, combat patrols and lists with max. 1000 points are allowed. Both sides trys to gather informations and make some captive.

As a special mission for the SW in the first week they need to capture an aspiring sorceror of the TSons and bring him back to your command post. This special mission can only be played once by every player and only in the first week.

In the second week both sides wait for reinforcements. Both sides can use lists with up to 2000 points max.

In the third and fourth week reinforcements arrives and full scale war at hand. No point restictions.

As a side note: I had asked at my local GW store if i can organize an Apocalypse game for the conclusion (9th Aug) of the campaign. I think it would be cool if you, guys, could do the same at your gaming location.

Cheers

Deneris and Dark Bjoern

I guess you could count my mega mega apocalypse battle over the weekend as an overwhelming imperial victory. 170,000 points combined over 9 tables (9k of my wolves represented!!!), including a warlord titan, a couple warhounds and an imperial leviathan (not to mention 20+ baneblades of all configurations). The imperials started about 1000 pts down on the first turn and 'evil' (anything not space marines or IG) got to go first. In the end, just about complete annihilation victory for the imperium.

The actual stand is this:

Loyalists: 18 points

Chaos: 6 points

Those Loyalists that captured a AC, Sorceror or Lord can get one Squad of 5 Grey Knight Terminators (elite choise, not HQ) for free during the second week.

I know this is bad but how would you write a batrep? I'll offer to do it to the best of my abilities with some guidance if thats ok with everyone. I'm still a bloodclaw so I could try to prove myself and join the Grey hunters?

@ Ladislao:

Yea I figured as much, would have been an amazing feat to get our core units in for under 200 points

@Iams:

Just summarize what took place, fine details aren't needed and most of the time you can get away with things off the top of your head, certain rolls aren't necessary and only the major turning points should be pointed out. This is just a guideline and you can write how much or how little you'd like, just have to keep it interesting for us to read if you make it too long. :P

Hopefully this is ok with everyone:

This is based on this from D.B.:

Vindicator

1000 Points

Victory Points:

Space Wolves: 6

Chaos: 0

The Chaos force was totally annihilated and the Chaos Lord was captured

So here is a sort of mini bat rep in story format, when I have time I'll try to continue the batrep. Sorry if I did anything out out the scenario/situation: Keep tuned edits might happen: Sorry I'm a crappy writer though

Rune priest Beef (Hope you don't mind) stirred. His battle torn power armour was worn and dirty and the plates shifted unleashing tendrils of dust. "Brothers the abomnations are approching, be wary of their lord". The tide of chaos surged towards them. The terminators lumbered foward chaotic energy crackling sparking. Pus dripped from the servants of nurgle. "CHARGE!" Beef roared. The Rhino fired off its first rounds of gunshot.A stray bullet flew into the arm of a berzerker causing even more fury. More to come, got to go sorry.

Would a news/ football/hockey game style battle rep be better? I think I might be better at witing those.

You should not write any batreps. You should kill our enemies. Rip them apart, smash them. Unleash a hail of bolter round upon this traitor scum that tries to invade our training world. It´s still a world of the Emperor and it´s our duty to defend it. So take your weapons and show them who´s the boss.

Wait wait wait how can we do the "you get a free grey knight squad" thing if we don't know who all is participating in this campaign? On that note how can i find chaos players that are participating? after all if I walk up to a random chaos player and say"hey I am playing a campaign through the bolter and chainsword and I get 5 FREE grey knight terminators in a game that we play" he would have me put away!

You ONLY get the Grey Knights if you played the first special scenario against a chaos opponent who is ALSO doing the campaign and won. Otherwise, simply play a "normal" game of 40k (At the weekly specified points) and report the results in the appropriate forum. Likewise, the Chaos faction only gets their bonus forces if they defeated a Loyalist who is taking part in the campaign.

As for how to handle a "random" gamstore game? Simply bring a copy of the campaign outline with you to the store and see if any Chaos forces wish to use the scenario rules/point limits. If they say no, just play a standard game of whatever the points limit is of the week, with no special bonus for winning.

...And why am I HELPING the Space Wolves? :)
