Painting: Painting Yellow Quickly

Recommended Posts

This is the 'new' first stage to my yellow painting proccess (I go a bit further, but this is a good basic/quick way for general troopers etc.).

Stage 1: watered down application of Iyanden Dark Sun

Stage 2: second application of Iyanden Dark Sun

Stage 3: (Blurry sorry) dry brush with 1:1:1 mix of Sunburst Yellow, Iyandn Dark Sun & White

Stage 4: Wash with undiluted Gryphonne Sepia Wash

Once dry (mines not yet <_< ) you can dry brush with sunburst yellow, then yellow/white mix, then watered down Gryphonne Sepia wash, followed by highlights of white/sunburst mix.

Hope that helps someone!! :>

This is great, and very similar to my method.

Steps 1-2 pretty much the same.

For step 3 I use Golden Yellow and I paint on a few coats instead of drybrushing. - Main difference.

Step 4 is the same, except I only apply the was to the recesses.

Step 5 is highlighting edges with Sunburst Yellow.

It's probably not as quick, but

the result is a more vibrant yellow:

Very nicely done.

Im still trying to figure out how to paint my IF i tried golden yellow with a ogryn flesh wash and then golden yellow highlights which gives them a rather dirty look.

Im still not sure weather to stick to ogryn flesh or to switch to gryphone sepia.

Also I havnt figured out yet how to just apply the wash to the recesses without getting ugly rims on the surrounding flat areas could anyone advice me on that?

I haven't painted a lot of yellow, just fooling around with extra models, but I've found if you basecoat white, then take a watered down yellow ink (I used 2:1 or 3:1 h2o:ink) and hit all the areas that will be yellow, that it took less layers to cover and I got a much nicer tone when finished. I'm by no means an expert, but it worked well for me.

Wow, I've been totally schooled.

Could you post a full tutorial if you have time? I'd love to see it.

I'm going to have a go at this, but afterwards, glaze it a couple of times with yellow ink.
