1000pts

Is 1000pts too few to feild a LRC in now 5th edition has arrived as from the games of 5th I witnessed/played yesterday a heavy tank/transport gunship i.e. the LRC would be very effective as if you removed all weapons able to damage it , lascannons, metlas, powerfists etc then it would be invernerable and able to kill lots of enemys.

Also the LRC is so tough to begin with it would nearly guarantee that the sqad would reach the foe for his cargo to rip him apart in CC and be such a fire magnet that the rest of the army would be undamaged when they arrive to attack the enemy something like 13 blood claws, 1Wolf guard pack leader and a wolfguard battle leader

Your thoughts?

My personal rule is no LRC under 1750pt. The only reason I field one at all is to attract fire, and act as a diversion. An LRC unit is a win or lose unit, and the results are generally 50/50. If it makes they're lines, oh so much pain... If it gets nailed early by a lucky shot though, there's a 550pt+ unit sitting dead in your lines, with the B.Claws now having to footslog they're way across the field, and meanwhile the enemy can now focus fire on your G.Hunter's rhinos.

What I'd suggest is (when it comes out) get the redeemer and use that bad boy as it'll greatly aid your assaulting units coming out of it. I'm not a fan of the LRC just because it's more points with the ability to put more points into it than a normal land raider, and I hope the redeemer will be as effective, keeping the units smaller.

The biggest problem I had was killing enough with the unit inside the LRC and the LRC itself, for instance when I faced a very heavy land speeder, dreadnaught army I maybe got 1/4 of my points back and ended up loosing the LRC as well as most of the troops after they massacred in CC.

In a smaller list though, I'd go for it, it'll be half your army cost, but hey, if your one-trick pony fails then your footsloggin' blood claws can at least "run" now :)

I think it works very well. I do it, Not frequently, but I like it. It is an all eggs in one basket aproach though. If I get one, I always get a Vend dread as an HQ and either a Wolf Priest for cheap, or Rune priest to for surviveablilty.

Reason for the Ven dread is you need the first turn with that tank. Charge forward and pop smoke the first turn if anything can kill you and do the same next turn but with bloodclaws jumping out.

And the Rune priest can cast Storm Caller on either the tank or the dread running along, slowly mind you, but still helping him out. Basically your army is a tank, a dread, An HQ and two troops. Loose the tank early and it's game over.

form the games I played in 5th editon and the amount of decicated anti tank being fielded I think it would work very well but i also ust really want to use a LRC as it is a model that I really like

Does the redeemer have increased transport ability? i havent been able to read up on it much...

But yeah, i really love crusaders. I cannot wait till oct when they come out in plastic:D The question you should really be asking yourself is this...is it possible to have a 1000k army consisting only of 2 crusaders and the troops/hq to go in them...and still win? be fun to find out

Proxy time! I really think it would be a solid list, compared to some of the other lousy one-thousand point lists I've seen.

LRC for 1k. In my opinon 'No'. One Land Raider in a 1,500 point list. Two in a 2k list.

For 1k or less - If you desire is a Mechcanised Company then I would go.

Ven. Dread, Rhino, Razorback, Vindicator, LS Tornado's

i gotta say no in a 1k list for 2 reasons:

1. the amount of points is a serious sink

2. every point there is one less point in Grey Hunter Packs. i tell anybody i game with, the Grey Hunter Packs were appointed by Russ and the Emperor to be the scariest, most brutal unit of Space Marines around. The Blood Angels play at that, the Black Templars try (and fail) to emulate that. Only the Grey Hunters do it. Marines go traitor out of envy of the coolness of the Grey Hunters.

well if we do a mock list we can come up with 2 cheap HQ's (WGBL's with bolt pistol frost axe and 4 wolves (since no invuln saves) and 2 grey hunters in each squad (very basic, trying to keep them cheap) you can then have 2 LRC, and meet the requirements for 1000 points, at this point however, you face space wolves, he has a long fang squad, 2 las cannons, split fire, blow up both LRC and now you have the cheapest units available and a whole lot of shooty left to kill them while they foot slog.

It's a list that's either you win big, or loose big, if you get lucky, the LRC's stay alive, and reduce your kill points drastically while killing off your opponents, OR they blow up quickly, and leave your opponent to slaughter your cheap units and you might get 1 kill point.

It's a fun way to play (in my book) where there's a lot of chance, but others who get angry when half their list goes up in smoke first turn, I'd suggest to not play such a list.

Oh, i'm not afraid to play fun little battles like this. I'd love to find out just how much damage I could do with this scenario. I play to have fun for the most part, only getting serious about winning in tournies and such. I'm just waiting to get my second LRC for the plastic ones, so i'll have to wait to find out i guess.

take out the rhino, add more special weapons and guys in the grey hunter squads to beef them up (you loose a kill point to rhinos and 6 man squad is easy to kill) also take out a few blood claws to get points if you have to, to a minimum of 8-9

I'll do a new list later, as I am tired but what you have said makes sense Wolf89 and thanks for the advice I will drop both rhinos which means an extra 100pts of gery hunters and maybe a plasma gun in each squad

I would find the points to give the dread at least Extra armor, and smoke launchers if you can. I never use them without them. Especially one as expensive as a ven dread.

Only other idea would be switch out the WGBL with a cheap Wolf priest at 96 pts. (Just add frag)

Good 1k pts list otherwise

Bolt pistol

Frag grenades

Frost Blade

Venerable Dreadnaught

I came up with this spur of the moment while reading this post so don't mock but

Rune Priest with Wolf Helm of Russ, Pistol, Close Combat Weapon, Wolf Tail Talisman 123

2 Land Raider Crusaders with Smoke 536

2x 10 Grey Hunters 340

There is a two LRC list tear it apart as you see fit but I actually am gonna try it out :FA:

Wait hang on this has no tank killing ability Darn you new rending rule!

1 land raider with smoke

1 land raider crusader with smoke

1 grey hunter squad with fags and flamer (these go in regular land raider while the rune priest and the other guys head on into the crusader)

there we go!

Oh I like it a lot! thank you, now then Lets cleanse some heretics, :D it is proxy time! Although that other list looks sweet as well... :D hmmm ahhhh don't make me choose! :P

but INMO if I were running the former list I think that I will swap out the fists for a few more marines! after all the two land raiders should have more than enough stoppin' power all by themselves. I sure hope I don't run into any railguns with this list though!
