Hello Everxbody. I just got myself a box of sniper scouts from a buddy who had them spare. He only wanted to have 5 euros for them and i like the models a lot so i grabbed them. I am not too sure if i will use them frequently though. Sniper weapons got nerfed in 5th edition i guess. I know of course that OBEL scouts are far more useful. But if I ever take 2 scout units the other one will be the snipers i guess. Even if the guys only see the table in apocalypse games.
What are your opinions or experiences with snipers?

Hello Grimmwulf!
Our scouts are truly a backbone of what we can field but there is a flaw that we can't choose them as Troops only as Elites leaving you little wiggling space in your army list. Snipers are good for holding objectives as enemy will be more likely moving towards them, leaving them with free shots here and there. Until the new SM or SW codex shows up, by my opining Sniper Scouts in a Space Wolves army is not so viable as it may be in other chapters. I would prefer OBEL assault scouts but the choice is always yours in the end.

I prefer the OBEL scouts even with the double tap removed from the plasma pistols - which popped many a tank/character.
But I do feel its worth having at times normal armed scout pack either infiltrating or outflanking with 4 sniper rifles and a missile launcher
these will hold an objectives well. Would run both packs if using a VDread as HQ - shame about having to use 2 Elite spots really
normal armed scounts should come under troops and OBEL under elites
plus my normal 2xPP 1xMG 2xBP&CCW costs the same as 4 snipers and a ML (or 2snipers 3bolters and ML)easy swap without effecting points too much
I add a Wguard as these units are small either 5/6 troops and that extra leadership can come in handy
Like you picked up a cheap box so worth putting together.

While I agree with the others about OBEL scouts, if you really want to field sniper scouts then go ahead, they're not really nerfed, I'd almost say it's better (rending is a nice way to kill those big guys) and you still wound on 4's (nightbringer killer still) so it's not like they're worse.
My way to always look at adding new additions to an army is always play test them and see how YOU like them, as you'll be the one fielding them and such, so if you like the models, you like playing them, then play them.

Yeah, in certain situations, like against a fast moving nid army say, there's no real point in taking a OBEL scout squad, as they'll come on with no targets in range. Against armies like these, i think sniper squads will still shine. Having the rending rule definately adds some punch to this squad as well. I personally will still keep mine at the ready, and will happily field them when needed. Plus, in apoc games, you will want all the models you can put your hands on

At the end of the day, we know who our true brothers are. We watch the halls of Russ, and remember our days of glory whilst persuing ever greater ones.
We are the Sons of Russ, for the All-Father and the Wolf King. From now, until the End Days and the Wolftime. We play by our rules, and noone elses.

Bear in mind, the Wolves will become the only chapter with WS4 BS4 scouts. So a mixed armament may be in order so they can shoot or fight.
Lo there do I see the All-father. Lo there do I see the Primarch and my Wolf Brothers. Lo there do I see the line of my people, back to the beginning. Lo, they do call to me, they bid me take my place among them, in the Halls of All-Father, where the brave may live...forever.

Hmmm.... you know there is a note in the space wolf scouts entry that allows one squad to take equipment from C:SM scout entry, might be worth thinkin about a 6 man squad with all snipers and a missle launcher just in case your long fangs need some help cleanin up enemy armour/ really big bugs perhapse give the wolf guard a combi weapon to give some defense shooting if something starts muckin up your battle lines. though I would not say this is a viable option with a rhino rush.

Don't forget about Dark Angels their scouts are WS4 BS4
I think the idea is interesting but it'll depend on your playing style, I use mine for the OBEL rule but I've thought about adding a 2nd squad to use the outflank rule. Still I could see a lot of uses for this squad.

I thought SW Scouts could only take 2 Sniper rifles....or is that would the option to use the SM: Armory does, let you take more?
For Russ and the All Father!!!

One squad can take as many snipers as they want, because C:SM a scout squad can be full of sniper rifles.

What do they lose if they do that?
If they take "normal" scout weapons then they can only take "normal" scout weapons, so no meltabombs, if you look in your codex you will see what I'm talking about.
