Should we be banned?(warning hot topic)

Banning Space Wolves from tourney's is a daft idea.

I did a doubles tournament on Saturday, and I had no problems with using the 3rd Ed Codex. Neither did my opponents :)

I suffered mixed fortunes in battle, however in all honesty I felt that despite the changes that have occurred, the Space Wolves Codex is just as valid today as when it was first released.

To say it's "cheese/beardy" would be wrong.

There's too many whiners out there who are unhappy that their army didn't get "Uber" upgrades in the last round of Dex releases.

Stuff 'em, we are Russ's Wolves, what do we care?

No to being banned! :P

Now, where's my torch and pitchfork?

There's no grounds for him to ban you, it's allowed at the GT, and that takes precedence above all, there's absolutely NO WAY for him to stop you from playing that list. Call up GW and they'll make sure he allows it.

Thank you guys, I got a lot of good arguments and pointers. I had a "chat" with him today, and he was really understanding and said he will let the son´s of Russ keep fighting.

This was a good victory... Thank you all, again.!

GW actually has not authority over independant tournament organizers. They are free to rule as they wish.

true

If they would make a torny where the ultramarines get attacked by nids, no reason to have any other army's attend.

so they can do as they please.

But as sayed no good reason to ban SW's, if so you could ask why and maybe not use mentioned unit.

Ok, yes, in most circumstances, but if it's an RTT or other special event connected to GW and the GT they can't deny the use of Space Wolves, unless as mentioned by Max, it's a store event marking a certain theme that only allows the use of certain armies, then yes it's fine to exclude certain armies.

From the way it sounds though he's only denying Space Wolves, which (in Max's case) all other space marine armies shouldn't be allowed except ultramarines. This whole thing just seems fishy to me where he'd single out an army like that.

If Space Wolves aren't allowed no Marine chapters should be allowed, including Ultramarines. Those damn annoying smurfs!

I find it extremely comforting I'm not the only one dealing with the cries of cheese and OP.

One of the members of my gaming group has to bring up how "Space Wolves get all these ridiculous little bonuses" and special things that make the SW unique. He's one of those people who see the Space Wolves as a dedicated close combat army due to the "8 million powerfists in a unit". He currently plays Black Templar, and doesn't realize how I could POSSIBLY see getting into CC with him a bad idea. So he whines about me being a combat army and gunning him down.

Problem is, in high school, he was one of the stronger members of the Debate team, so he's not easy to prove wrong. (Side note. It doesn't help that when I have a valid point over him, he starts getting repetitive and loud, then waits for me to mess up what I'm saying, then hammers on that untill I give up arguing with him.)

His favorite things to whine and moan about:

-OBEL

-Split Fire (even though he traded Tau for the Templar)

-Power Fists (without understanding how I have to pay POINTS for that)

-"80 million HQ choices"

-Venerable Dreadnought Old and Wise rule

-Devastator-like WGBL unit as HQ

-Leman Russ Exterminator

-Counter Attack and True Grit

-and his FAVORITE thing to complain about, Chooser of the Slain

He pretty much overlooks the fact that even though I would be dumb to waste points on things like Assault Squads and an Iron Priest, saying I "still have the OPTION to".

Apparently, increased points costs are a mystery to him too.

dont debate with people like that, just tell him :"if you don't like the wolves, call GW to ban or change them, untill than, except your so called cheese, or play someone else."

I hear your howls of anguish brother.

People who have not read the Space Wolves codex and played a couple of games using Space Wolves fail to understand that we

are not predominantly Close Combat; We are Close Assualt. The difference being that we are proficient at assualting, however,

we do not have the stamina for prolonged combats. We weaken our targets with short range fire and finish them up close and

personal like Russ would have us do!

I am forunate to be in a club that isn't petty this that. Sure the players like to win, but it is a more deserved win if it is a close

fought battle in a game that could go either way. Even the younger players (14 - 16) realise that if you wipe your opponent force

in the first two turns that the game loses its interest.

As for banning our codex, the way I see it; Space Wolves are (with the arrival of 5th Edition to make some of our rules obsolete) a

4th Edition Vanilla army with the traits - Trust Your Battle-Brothers & We Stand Alone. We have very cool unique wargear and

an even cooler background of drinking ale and kicking arse. We have other rules Acute Senses & Preferred Enemy however they

are only useful on special occasions. As pointed out on many occasions we suffer from more HQs than we really need, do not

have access to Furious Chage or Tank Hunters. Are over priced in many areas and the bear the loss of a single Long Fang

as the only wound soaker is the pack SGT. and Jump packs are a waste of points in less than 2,500 pt battles.

It is an incredible feat to know that our battle codex has stood for 2 entire rule sets. The designers of our beloved battle book

should be commended that they could balance it out so well [allowing for one or two items] and can still remain competitive enough

to scare players who fear to face us.

Demons have a dude that is 110 points. He comes with 5 (FIVE!!!) Wounds, 3 str5 range attacks and 1 str8 attack which he can split fire. he is also considered to be on a 'jet bike' for movement purposes.

Did I mention he costs110 POINTS!!!!!

SW are the least overpowered....

I would argue that we are so good as an army is simply this: as a SW you either get good with what you have or you suck. You have to embrace, live and breath the way of the Space Wolf in order to play them well. Thusly, when we're out there handing other armies their A$$ they cry 'over-powered.'

Hi good people,

I would like to ask you, what I was asked today. Should we be stopped till next codex has arrived?

I want to start with saying that we have a very good tournement manager. He has no grudge towards us or anything, his point is valid. ( at least with me since our codex was written two rulesets ago. I do not want this to become a hatefest, just your thought on our codex, pro and cons... and how it "might" interact with the next SM codex.

I know there are people who think that our obel and our wgbl being able to carry HW is hard for some. and not to mention our runic charms and fenrisian wolves.... oh, and our venerable dreadnought.

Me myself, I think we pay a lot for our troops, we are expensive, we are elite. but I am afraid some people cant stand us.

I hope to see some constructive thoughts about our present codex and our place in 40k. I hate going to a torney, feeling that I am breaking some unseen law, I am a Space wolf, alwys been... but it´s no fun to play if we are being viewed as chees, just beause we are son´s of Russ.

I would accept a "no" as in no more SW in this tournement because our codex was written during 3rd ed, only if others are treated the same. (DE)

I hope some of you can help me out, showing where gw went wrong, having our codex getting this old.. ( for some valid points to my organiser)

/discuss

Simple as this.

Nope.

I don't think we should. If they can ban us for being cheesey, then by this logic all armies in one configuration or another should be banned for being cheesey (Eldar flying circus comes to mind <_< ) As DepthCharge, our revered Wolf Lord has said, cheese and beard and psychological concepts, and its stupid to call and army cheesey just because you find it harder to win against them, which is where alot of this criticism originates -_-

When you consider that as you have said, we are a good 2 editions old, looking at our list, it is quite balanced. Our power in CC is countered by our lack of cheap HS such as Devs with ablative wounds. We are mostly outnumbered by most armies, and when you play as Wolves, you have to have some modicum of skill to make this specialisation work.

Just because we arent bland and totally lacking in any discernable flavour like vanila marines or haven't recieved a new codex like Orks doesnt mean that dedicated SW players should be left out in the cold, as a result of GW's seeming indifference.
