Seer Council

Well, yesterday i gave the 13th company a spin ( first time with them ) and faced against an Eldar player using a Seer Council, 2 wraithlords, 2 squads of Dire avangers in wave serpents and a unit of Fire dragons in a Wave serpent.

The seer council pretty much killed 80% of my army. He had like 9 warlocks, a farseer and an Autarch in jet bikes. 3+ saves that can be rerroled, toughnes 4, high mobility, 2 destructors ( strgth 5 flamer ) like 6 attacks at strgth 6 power weapon from the autrach, casting doom, if the 3+ save is not available, then they get 4+ inv saves that can be rerrolled. It was insane, he went through squads like nothing, finally put a stop to them when he assaulted my Wolf lord and retinue, and by then that was all that was left, my Wolf lord did all the killing pretty much ( the eldar guy was rolling pretty good, i was rolling like crap )

How can i deal with somethign like that ? i shot the crap out of him, but with the ability to rerrol 3+ saves vs bolters and 4+ saves vs evrything else, is almost impossible to kill them!

What is your list like?

Eldar are squishy, you have grey slayers that can have 2 plasma or melta guns (or a mixture of the two) in each squad plus a WGL who can have a combi if you choose. You could have totally wasted those guys with a turn or two of average shooting (not sure how bad your rolling was).

A list would surely help me elaborate on what you could have done, or done differently.

Thanks for answering, this is what i had:

Woflord ( tooled out for cc )

wolflord retinue- 6 stomr claws, power fist

Rune Priest - frost blade, plasma pistol

Wolf priest

9 grey slayers, 2 meltas, WGL -bolt pistol (bp) power weapon

9 grey slayers, 2 meltas, WGL - BP, PW

9 grey slayers, 2 meltas, WGL- BP, power fist

9 Storm claws, 2 power fists, 2 plasma pistols, WGL- plasma pistol, power weapon

Long Fangs - heavy bolterx2, lasscannon, plasma cannon

List was a general list, didnt go in expecting to fight Eldar with a Seer council.

And i rolled liek crap, at one point missing five 3+saves out of 6 ....

But even with my bad rolling, those guys are insane and very hard to take down, also remember that they have 3+ saves from the bikes, toughnes 4 because of the bikes, and they come with a 4+ inv save because they are warlocks with runes or some crap.

or a rune staff on the RP, it can be used to hurt some of the psychi powers of the Eldar.

wolf lord kieran

Yeah, except you might run into that nasty spell that can outright kill your RP. Plus the average eldar seer council will have a Ld higher than a RP so you have to actually roll higher than the warlock/farseer to get a negated spell. About the only character that I've seen be able to handle a psychic hood vs an eldar army is mephiston...

lots of bolter & HB fire.... the RP is a plus. The only thing you need to dispel is the fortune spell that it.. other then than is just a 4+ invul... you should be more worried with 1K son marine they are 3+/4+inv. even worst.

Against any kind of chaos, I never leave home without my vindi. :D

Seriously, none of the above suggestions will take out a well-armed Seer council. They have better leadership than you, so using the Rp is generally unlikely to work, and shooting against someone with a re-rollable 3+ save and 4+ invunerable will, generally, get you not very far.

May I suggest that you actually try CC; the fact is, unless he takes Eldrad (for 200+ points IIRC) then he has nothing that ignores armour saves, and they generally lack many attacks in CC (both warlocks and Farseers).

The problem, of course, comes in the form of the Autarch. That, my friend, is jsut nasty. The other alternative is, try and suck him in with a 'bait' squad, and then hit him with multiple opponents. Really, it is a very hard combo; just remember that it is a large, large part of his points total all wrapped up in one, lovely unit. Weight of fire will also see him downed, again, its just whatever you can try to waste them.

NR :)

Eldar can be pretty nasty, but sometimes dogpiling as many BC packs you can onto one of them can help put the hurt into them. When in doubt, just toss more attack dice at your opponent than they can imagine. And it keeps the unit tied up, hopefully till you can dogpile some more folks onto them.

But that's just me, and I love to make my opponents earn their victories.

A dreadnought really messes those Eldar up. Eldrad does get a strength 9 hit in there, but with our venerable dreads he has a pretty tough time.

I just had a game the other day, my venerable dreadnought managed to instant kill Eldrad and wipe out his buddies.

Then again, that was the game where my scouts killed 1 Falcon, 10 Dire Avengers, 6 fire dragons, 3 dark reapers and an Autarch, so maybe I was just lucky :whistling:

You werent just Lucky, the emperor himself musta have been rolling the dice for you !

Thanks for all the tips guys. Thing with 13th company is that i get NO vehicles, just bikes :( i wouldve prob had a better time with a regualr SW army, more options, and i actually get some vehicles, a vindi shot right in the middle of them wouldve prob taken out a couple. Not sure how long a dread wouldve lasted vs all those strg 9 attacks, specially with the new counter-attack rules where he can just pile in on top of my dread.

Looks like mass number of attacks is the key, my wulfen wolflord was able to kill them with with soem help from a few stormclaws. Those 3+ rerrol saves makes them pretty much immune to bolter fire, so many things going against you..1: gotta hit, 2: gotta wound, 3: first save, 4: second save ....

His dreads spent all game long shooting at my long fangs, he was rolling crap with them, one of my long fangs actually lived 6 turns !
