New Blood Claw

Recommended Posts

I have been considering joining the fang for a long time. First, I wanted to do my own DIY chapter. I did. Now that that's over, I'm ready to get serious about the Wolves. So, I went looking through the Great Company Symbols and decided that I liked Bran Bloodmaw's Great Company. This just leaves me with two questions.

1. Who is Bran Bloodmaw and how can I find out more about him or his Great Company?

2. Can anyone point the way to some Space Wolf Painting tutorials or suggestions? Just to be clear, I'm looking for something a bit more...complex than the one presented by GW on their website. This will be the 5th army I have painted in 40k and I would classify myself as an intermediate level painter and modeller. That, and I'm interested in seeing different color schemes that others have used.

Thanks for the help, brothers.

Hail! Another new Whelp for the Fang. Good to see you joining us.

1. Do you mean Bran Redmaw? In which case, other than what is in the back of C:SW (3rd Ed) I can't find anything, though I'm sure one or two of our more learned brethren will be able to help.

2. Personally, I loathe the SW Grey highlights so I go with just plain Shadow Grey on a Chaos Black undercoat. This gives them a somewhat darker and more brooding look. Again, look in the WIP progress section for SW logs nad see what there is.

First of all; Welcome to the Fang

Most obvious colours you can use for Space Wolves are Shadow Grey, highlighted towards Space Wolves Grey, or else the Pre Heresy Codex Grey hightlighted towards Fortress Grey, just what has your preference.

I started as a GW/40K newbie painting them the colours in our codex, so that means the blue-ish Shadow Grey, with Space Wolves Grey highlights. For my new army, that I will start when the new codex arrives, I'll paint them the grittier Codex Grey.

To make the different units stand out you can use additional colours for the particular unit: Blood Claws red/yellow, Grey Hunters red/black, Long Fangs black/white, Wolf Guard yellow/black. These colours can be painted on loose parts of their armour like shoulderpads, knees or hands. Of course you can use the decals, but using painted markings like that, the seperate units look really distinguised, while the main colour of the armour (the dark grey/shadow grey) holds the look of the total army together.

No real tutorial, but I hope it's of any use. ^_^

i am sure you have heard this before but here it is: "it is your choice how to paint your army." there that's done

with that, here what i have done/am doing: i am going with the Fenris Grey base coat, with Adeptus Battle Grey and high lighted with codex grey, for th main sections. trim/elbows/wrist/knees are kind of a blood red/red gory color. one shoulder pad will have a space wolf-ish color to it. i also am showing that a few selected individuals are being observed by priests (mostly blood claws), with black or yellow marks to show the different interest of the priests.

don't know if this helps much, but it show some creativity (i hope) that might help.

Obviously I meant Bran Redmaw. Sorry, still a pup. I'll have to check out the back of the Codex to see what it says on him and his Company.

As far as paint schemes go, I think I'm just going to play with some ideas and see where I come out.

This leads me to my next question: Units. I know I want an infantry heavy army with drop pods a-plenty. Beyond that, I'm not sure where to go. Right now I'm thinking of 3 Grey Hunter Packs, 2 full Blood Claw Packs, 2 Long Fang Packs, and some other stuff. Which HQ would you recommend? How are the Blood Claw Bikers (I've never used bikes before)? Should I look at getting some scouts? Is the Leman Russ Exterminator worth taking?

My general play style is a balanced one. I like some units that assault and some that stand still and shoot. Any further advise would be greatly appreciated and would be worthy of a Fenrisian Ale.

Welcome to the Fang, Whelp.

Good HQ is relative. I love my ven. Dread and my Rune Priest. But a Wolf Priest is also a good and solid choise.

Wolf Scouts are a "must-have". Their special rules makes them worth their points. They can enter the table via the opponent´s table edge and kill enemy artillerie and other heavy support choises from behind. Even that your opponent knows about your scout´s abilities and he tries to block them they had been worth their points cause he put valueable units out off line to protect his heavy support.

The LRE is a good choise against horde lists and lists with a lot of soft targets like `nids, IG and Eldar. Other wise he´s not very useful. The other thing is, that we don´t know if we will keep the LRE with a new ´dex.
