Welcome a new Wolf!

Wolf Lord Gregus

Recommended Posts

Hi all, i'm new here, i have 1 or 2 questions and a breif discription about me!

My name is Joey, i live in the United Kingdom, i collect Warhammer 40k, Space Marines and Chaos Marines and Tyranids.

I AM GOING TO COLLECT SPACE WOLVES.

My questions are:

1) When is the new SW codex coming out? Since im new to SW i want to know :o

2) How should i start collecting SW?

Currently i have alot of space marines, either painted ultramarines or just basecoated black.. I am currently re-painting them to space wolves, here is a quick picture of my first space wolf marine, he is far from finished but just a quick look:

I know its not good quality (camera), but i used my Mobile.

So since i am converting them, i also orded a Blood Claws Squad, and my friend is converting my SM Chaplen to a Wolf Priest.

So currently i have:

Some Space marines which i am currently converting to space wolves.

A Squad of Blood Claws

A Wolf Priest..

What should i get next?

It's my birthday in 2 months so i will get a few things.

Please help, thanks

Welcome to the fang. The search function is your friend for a lot of questions you might need answered quickly in the future.

One tip about your picture, don't hold your models

Back onto topic about what to get, I'd recommend some rhinos if you don't already (or going a drop pod route and getting the new drop pods coming out soon), a dreadnought and possibly some terminators.

You can use the tactical marines as grey hunters (the core of any space wolves army) and the blood claws are always welcome.

As for the new space wolf codex, I have stated in the past it should be here by now, it obviously isn't, the best GUESS (and that's all it is) would be next year around March/April? No one knows, we just know it's not soon. :o

As for a good starting list, you may want to gander at the army list sections for inspiration.

Also for collecting, a nice addition I have found for 5th edition to the wolves is a vindicator.

Welcome again, and glad you heeded the call!

Those would probibly be best as well as another pack or so of Grey Hunters as from what I hear will be the main staple of your forces.

I myself am waiting to buy my own Space Wolf Battleforce =D Currently I have 1 Grey Hunter pack with a Wolf Guard Leader, a Dreadnaught and a couple Termies from the Assault on Black Reach set.

SW battleforces are OOP in the UK, so you'll have to go to ebay. Unfortunatly most of ebay seems to be Out of Stock, so it could be grim getting SW bits.

A SW Venerable Dreadnought is a must have option and remains one of our best choices.

WARNING - NEXT BIT IS BEARD & CHEESE IN EXTREMIS! YOU HAVE BEEN WARNED!

You have Blood Claws and a Wolf Priest. Under the new C:SM rules, healing potions and balms ( = Narcarthium and redu(n)ctor) gives Feel No Pain. Add a Land Raider Crusader in October and you have the closest thing in 40K to an "IWIN" button. Seriously, this is totally and utterly cheesy, and broken. Especially with Counter attack meaning they as dangerous off the charge as on the charge 90% of the time (or something like that, my mathhammer sucks... ;) )

As for the rest of the army GH squads are a brilliant all round choice and can shoot fighty foes and fight shooty squads - an excellent, dependable option. 2 is a minimum, 3 is good solid core or an army.

From there it depends where you want to go. You can do a powerful Mech force, based around Dreads, APC's and tanks (my preferred style) or a lethal Drop Pod list, capable of tearing of foes heart out with a devastating sudden assault - talk to Nightrunner especially about this one, he's made this type of force his own.

Hope this helps you, Vassakov.

Healing Potions and Balms aren't a Narthecium and Reductor, we don't use the ruling in C:SM and if you want the reason why I posted in the topic (new space wolf something or another from the upcoming codex).

That is a nice Idea though if it were legal.

Back to topic, the space wolves battleforce is a great buy to start out and if you can find it definitely get one, if you can't find one then don't bother about getting bikes any time soon, just worry about rhinos, grey hunters and blood claws.

I started with a serious load of stuff - graduation gets you nice presents, it turns out -_-

A battleforce is a great way to start. The Warstore might still have a few. If not, some stores have a few lying around as well. Grey Hunters are a MUST, and Blood Claws are great too. A dreadnought is another "must have" since our Venerable dreadnoughts are HQ choices, and tough as nails! Terminators are great for us too, since they can all take combi weapons, and we can get 3 assault cannons for a 10 man squad. Add in a Wolf Guard Battle Leader firing an assault cannon at BS 5 and you've got some really nasty rending spam. Alternatively, you can mix and match a terminator squad however you like. Lightning claws, power weapons, combi weapons, powerfists, whatever. The choices at hand are outstanding for terminators alone.

Also remember, we have access to all the new landraider/dreadnought variants available with the new Space Marines codex! The FAQ says so!

Unfortuantely, it is. I spoke to the design team at GDUK and they said we would refer to the new C:SM anywhere it said to.

Actually, I've just reread C:SW. The Healing Potions and Balms makes no reference to Narcathium, but now the nartcarthium and reductor are combined in C:SM? So which bit do we use, as the Fang of Morkai is a reductor - which no longer exists as a single bit of wargear.

Guess a Fang of Morkai is both.

Oh yes... they broke the heck out of the wolf priests. Very good.

Dont know if I count as an 'old wolf' but I get alot of comments about it So, might as well chime in.

I started collecting wolves, then I had to have 'one of everything'. Some things that are worth avoiding (IMHO) include: Blood Claw Jet Pack troops (bikes at least get the bolters and +1T), Rune Priests, and now (with 5th ed) most tanks that are not whirlwinds or LR Crusaders (so it seems anyway).

I would suggest staying away from the Leman Russ Exterminator, we dont know if we will have it.

Wolf Priest is the way to go, along with a SW Ven Dread. Troops are your friends, get a bunch.

Hope it helps.

I don't want to start this discussion here Vass, that's why I explained more in the "New C:SM units for wolves or whatever it's called" for you and we can debate it more there.

I agree with lars about staying away from the Leman Russ Exterminator, at least until we know the fate with our new dex.

If you can get to Warhammer World they still have SW battleforces - i bought 2 a couple of months back ;)
