Telion and Chronus

I was looking through the rumors of the new 5th edition Space Marine book, and both Scout Sergeant Telion and Tank Commander Chronus are bought as upgrades for a Space Marine Scout squad and Space Marine Tank, respectively.

The new FAQ says that Space Wolves take entries for Dreads, Rhinos, Razorbacks, Land Raiders, Predators, Whirlwinds, Vindicators, Land Speeders, and all their different variants and options from Codex: Space Marines.

The Wolf Scout entry says that one squad may be equipped with options from the Space Marine Scouts entry in Codex: Space Marines.

This leads me to believe that Telion and Chronus can be taken in a Space Wolves list by Loophole.

Thoughts? Clarifications?

Chronus might be nice in a tank such as a LRE having all those BS5 shots as well as ignoring stunned and shaken, but it's completely useless for a widely used and beloved SW tank... the Land Raider and it's variants ;)

As for Telion we can't take, as it clearly states "one scout squad in the army can replace it's scout sergeant with sergeant Telion" since Space Wolf Scouts don't have scout sergeants there is nothing to replace. So we can't use him.

One point to keep in mind (pointed out to me by the local game store worker): None of the new SC's in the SM codex actually have a specific army REQUIRED for them. They may list the chapter that they are from, they dont say that they MUST be with them.

Most likely the only place that you can end up fielding them would be in apoc. I gotta say thought, it would be awfully cool modeling up Lysander and throwing him in with a bunch of WG termies...

Ditto what Only said. It is unusual for a white scar character to lead a Ultramarine army as well. It is strongly assumed that this is a "count as" situation. You can certainly make Chronus an Iron Priest.

ehh but chronus is a separate choice from the codex sure he does go in to a tank , but he is not an option under land raider/rhino/razorback/predator/landpseeder . So SW or any other army not run out of the sm dex , cant us him .

I don't believe this to be true, he's an upgrade for a vehicle, and as such he can be taken for our codex.

To answer The God Emperor's question about Telion:

I have already explained why we can't take him. He's an upgrade for a scout sergeant which Space Wolf scouts don't have, so you can't in any way upgrade him, and since he can't be just taken he has to be upgraded, we cannot take him.

-edit-

He is an option for land raider, pred, etc. because at the end of the list he's placed there for an upgrade to "any" tank.

I just love loopholes eg look at our assault cannon. It says Heavy 3* that little star is noted as refer to rulebook for additional rules (or the like) That one says Heavy 4, Rending.

Always refer to the rules of play with these. AC's in 5th ed are listed in the rulebook, which clears up the 'old info' in ours.

It is written in WD that these special characters are for codex chapters only.

No BA, DA, BT, SW.

Yes IF, CF, WS.

Too bad I dont read WD...

Honestly, if it isnt in the FAQ or the codex, its legit. Unless things changed and things in WD are considered 'official' now? I thought only chapter approved qualified for that (or specific things, like the BA codex, etc).

Wrong its per your codex and since the SW say look at another one it gets updated. Saddly the DH army does not and it even shows under their list in the back of the Rule book that they are still heavy 3.

I think this "same name" but "different rules" deal creats alot of unhappy feelings withing games and why I do not like GW right now.

And as people have stated one of thos characters can be taken and the other cant. If GW wants people to buy WD and go by what it says then they need to change things. I did buy every single issue (subscriptions) from 93 till about 04 when I got tired of paying for a Toilet Paper Magizine. I once in a while look to see if it has gotten any better and still see its junk. They want way to much for something that is one big add.

Sorry for the rant B)

Dont think so. Can you provide some sort of back up for that?

The weapon charts in the back of the books were there for convienence, nothing more. They updated AC's. They are ALL Heavy 4 rending. The 5th ed rulebook says so.

Honestly, thats just silly. What in the world would make you think that one chapter has the exact same gun that works differently? I mean, really... if the new SM Codex says that power fists quadruple Str are you going to insist that the Space Wolves use 'defective' ones that only double it?

I would'nt of thought anything but chapter approved would be official but from the wording of the interview in WD with Mat Ward

it looks like these characters are going to be for non divergent chapters.

But you never know untill we get hold of a copy next month maybe SW etc will get access to them but I doubt it.

When you read the rules for Chronus, you will see he is a required character of all C:SM armies. I don't know about his legality for C:SW.

Proof bitte, that he is required in all C:SM armies. Bolded the fixes I made in your post. Nothing says that Chronus must be included in an army (unless you're being sarcastic of course).

Where do you read this? It says he MUST be assigned to a tank, not that he has to be taken.

If you look at it, it says "Chronus is always bought as an upgrade and starts the game as commander of a Space Marine tank."
