Salamanders 4th Battle Company

The paint I used was extremely watered down to the point it was hard to keep it from just pooling in the recesses. Perhaps taking off one of the layers would help to soften the look a bit. Thanks.

From anyone who has done source object lighting before, how would you go about painting the plasma glow?

Very important update. After years of waiting to purchase, months of work, and weeks waiting for replacement parts, I've finally completed my Storm Eagle!

Nice work man, very nice. Love the flames.

Thanks man. I appreciate it. You must be pumped for all the new Dark Angels coming out soon!

thats a really good looking model. the base is fantastic as well. is that free hand on the side saying "salamanders"?

really good stuff youve got here.

Thank you very much as well. I've put a ton of work into both the model and the base to make it really stand out from the rest of my army.

Actually it's not freehand but a part of the Forgeworld Salamanders etched brass frame. It's the name of the frame that's above the serial number. I very carefully cut it out using a razor saw, then glued it onto the model and painted it. I'm making the most out of that frame! ;)

Love the Storm Eagle. Lovely rich green you've got going on there, and the freehanded flame is fantastic. Good use of the spare bits on the frame ;) Are you planning to add any weathering to it at all? Would move it up from a 'very very good' model to a 'great' model in my opinion, but it still looks awesome and must be a joy to game with.

Nice to see the Sons of Vulkan getting some love :P

It is really fun to play with. It's great to stuff 10 hammernators into and to see the look on my opponent's face when I tell them! The Storm Eagle has been recently named "The Terror" of my local gaming area. It makes me fell all warm and fuzzy inside.

I have no current plans to weather it since I've painted my marines as a 'clean' army in an attempt to perfect my painting techniques. When I finish this army I plan on practicing my weathering skills on my orks. Once I feel confident with that I may come back to my marines and weather them.

It's now time to update since it's LPC time! This will be my first WIP for the LPC this year. So far I've made great progress and have gotten over half of my vow's models completed. Which I think is fantastic, and very fast for myself. So without further preamble, we have my Techmarine.

The Thunderfire Cannon was not a part of my vow because it was completed before the LPC was announced. So in order to be fair I didn't include it.

Here is the gun and crew pictured together.

Too many pictures, says the board, so the rest are in the post below.

Continued from above...

Now for the largest part of my vow. Five assault terminators, magnetized, with both weapon options available to them! I've tried to tie them in with my other assault termies, but also have tried to surpass them as well. I think I did. We'll begin with the lightning claw variants.

MORE!?

Below.

3/3

Here are the hammernators. With these I have 10 in my collection and are great fun to play with.

That's the first update. A big one, to be sure, but necessary due to the B&C's downtime. I'll be posting the next two parts of my vow soon, the first within the next two weeks. I hope.

As always, I love comments and suggestions, and I do my best to respond every one.

Man, I love your StormEagle and am very jealous! Also I love how you did your Thunderhammers.

However, this army is screaming for weathering! That StormEagle would look so boss with some well done (not OTT) weathering!

Like I had said before to someone, I may do some weathering in the future, after I practice it. I'm actually really bad at new techniques on the first few attempts, so I'm not willing to mess with what I've worked so hard on, yet. Once I get some practice with weathering my other army I'll probably come back to touch up the marines.

But thanks for the compliment. The Storm Eagle is a really nice kit (not assembly-wise though) and currently is the crown jewel of my collection.

Really great models, and the best part about a long thread like this is seeing the improvement you have made as a painter!

Keep up the good work!

That's why I've tried to keep the thread updated each time I add something to my collection. It also helps me improve as I go since I can look back and see what I've learned and try which I haven't attempted before.

LPC vow complete! The Iron Dragon has been awakened and Venerable-Brother Bray'arth marches to cleanse and burn once again. Both arms are magnetized for ease of transport and for posing. Let me know what you think.

Is this impressive or what?

Congratulations Muctar - I think this is the perfect Salamander green you achieved there! Well done and congratulations for completing your LPC vow! :tu:

Thanks everyone. I'm particularly pleased that I completed my vow a month early. Usually I'm painting like a madman right up until the last minute. Last year I only finished my vow with less than an hour to spare! tongue.png

Also you may be happy to know that Bray'arth had his first game last night and destroyed a LR Redeemer then the passengers which consisted of a Rune Priest, Logan Grimnar, and 4 Wolf Guard Terminators over the course of 5 turns. He was REALLY angry after being awoken!

MASSIVE UPDATE!

I haven't had much of a chance to take pictures, edit, and upload them to my galleries since my last update. The reason for the delay is that I was painting up a storm in order to finish every single marine model I own! During March I bought a ticket to Miniwargaming's Apocalypticon, to which I wanted to being all of my marines. Therefore I went on a hobby spree and did nothing but assemble and paint in my spare time until July 24th, when I left for the event. I completed everything at 3:30am on the 23rd. I cut it a little close. But now everything I have is finished. I'll eventually add to the army again, at least to finish a full battle company, but I have a whole other army that needs major attention and will take precedence.

Please bear with this as it'll definitely be a multi-post update. Feel free to comment, I usually get around to responding to each post in a timely fashion.

My Chapter Master. Really he's my 4th Company Captain Dac'tyr, but I figured the Master of the Fleet, Lord of the Burning Skies would have access to orbital support.
