I have been enjoying all the horus heresy books

I have read them all but machanicum

BUT......

I dont think that alot of the books are relly that much to do with the actual heresy its self

the first 3 are and the einstein is but i feel like legon and angels and fulgrim and abys are just there as padding they dont actuallt move the heresy along , Legon is set 2 years before it for goodness sake! I think games work shop are milking the name to get more of our hard erned dosh by getting a unrelated book and sticking The horus Heresy on the cover they Know more people will buy it.

In legion you find out what to do with the heresy ?

same in angels

same in fulgrim

As usuall GW are Taking us for a long and expensive ride.

Just my thoughts,

What do you Guys Think ?

Dose Machanicum ACTULLY move the heresy along ?

The books aren't expensive....they're very average in price for a sci-fi or fantasy book that size.

But yea, the series is kinda split between actual "Horus Heresy" books and what might be more accurately called "Great Crusade" books. HH just has more clout to sell things tho. The Great Crusade is less immediately recognizable to the average player.

I think GW just wants to point out all the aspects that made the HH a fact.

legion -->

Alpharius and Omegon need to choose between heresy and a short war or join the Emperor and make war for 10 millenia

angels -->

the split of the Dark Angels Legion starts to come clear

fulgrim (do you need to ask??? )-->

Fulgrim gets possessed by a freaking daemon, in other words goes to chaos = heresy

My point is, that GW probably wants to make a complete serie, covering all the events that lead to the the seige of Terra and such...

I Understand what u are saying but did it relly need a 400 page book to do each od these things ?

in reply to your points.

legion --> They are trusting information given to them by bunch of xenos ? i think not

angels --> a 400 page book for that ? the whole book is like a fantasy book but they have tacked on the last 50 or so pages

fulgrim--- > Dosnt take a xenos world for it !!!!! You would think he would have the will power to over come a demon Weapon ! dont get me wrong fulgrim is a great book but I think the hole possed thing is weak

The Imperium wasn't nearly as xenophobic back then. Hell, The Emperor was buddies with the Eldar for Pete's sake*. Eldrad warned him of Horus' treachery, they didn't officially have a problem with the Interrex's alien buddies (the Kinebrach), the Dark Angels don't mind the Watchers In The Dark even to this day, etc, etc.

*who is this Pete and why is everything for his sake?

Yeah, you do. Why? Because their approach to this is try and cover as much as possible. Serves a few purposes. Many legions get their own books, which is cool, I know I'm excited to see Prospero burn. Less complaining about playing favorites with legions, there will still be some, but less. And more money.

part of it is marketing

and also even if GW did release a more compact, more complete version of the extensive stories in one or two books, the fans would probably still demand more fluff for fluff's sake.

it also to tell a more comprehensive version of the story, instead of the 3 pagers we find in index astartes (well when they printed such things still).

I think the idea behind doing the HH as a book series was they could get the chance to go into all the detail about everything. The major events of the Heresy have already been written elsewhere, even the Legion-specific one. The series is a chance to go into every last factor in the Heresy in detail.

In legion it is a bunch of xenos - an eldar auchtac is in charge of them

Anyway not to stray to far from the point i understand that its cool for your legion to get its own book but it dosent change the fact that as I origonaly said, the are very very slightly related to the heresy and dont move the story on like the first 3 books did.

Your legion should get its own book....but they should not stamp HH on the cover when it is sod all to do with it.

So they should stamp on, Warhammer 30k instead? It is a timeframe. Do you think the American Revolution is purely the war? Of course not! It is all aspects of...you got it, the American Revolution! Similar here, the Horus Heresy is more of a timeframe that they are getting at.

These three books are related to the Heresy, quite comprehensively.

Legion provides us with the reason for the Alphas turning "traitor", Fulgrim provides us with the fine detail of Fulgrim and his Legion's downfall, as well as filling out certain scenes from the first three books and Descent of Angels, while admittedly being a "prologue", so to speak, paves the way for a future DA book focusing on the Fall and subsequent destruction of Caliban.

The Horus Heresy series is looking to be a titanic undertaking, and that will, of course, take time. You're being impatient and seem to just want the series to end, which would be a shame seen as there are so many things that remain unclarified. The Heresy would hardly be as epic as it will be if it was all summed up in three books (which you could call the Extended Edition of the Index Astartes)... <_<

I said long ago on this very site this is exactly what GW would do.

If a product is doing well, a smart business does not end it as quickly and efficiently as possible. Media- be it books, TV, films, this means you don't let the series, collection, trilogy end decisively at a logical story point. You milk it.

With the Horus Heresy books GW can go one better, not only can they drag out the history, but they can work sideways, expanding the background, peripheral details.

What was Joe Bloggs on World 355 doing when the Emperor was shot? We need to know, it needs a 300pg novel.

How did the Administratum keep their files up to date during this heretic-crunch? That needs it's own mini-trilogy.

Of course, if the books are well-written, consistent and informative then it's all good- any fluff is good fluff. You can pick and choose which books to buy. Not interested in the Ad Mech, skip Mechanicum.

The problem occurs with the varying 'quality' of each book. Very hit and miss.

See Master Jeridian posted exactly what I think :D

If you don't want to read certain of the HH books because you think they don't advance the plot...then don't.

But understand that not all of us are going to feel that way, and actually Fulgrim DOES advance the plot- Galaxy in Flames ends with Istavaan 3, whereas Fulgrim takes us to Istavaan 5 and the destruction of the major parts of 3 Loyalist Legions.

Legion explores in part how 'ordinary' humans react to the Adeptus Astartes as well as the central structure of the storyline.

I enjoy these 'expansive' novels, in fact my 3 favourite hH novels are Fulgrim and Legion at joint 1st with Mechanicum at 2nd.

Yes! I thought I was alone in that thought. The entire time I couldn't help but think that Fulgrim was a pud.

Fluff is good. Ergo, more fluff must be more good. Why are we complaining?

Exactly. If you're here complaining about it, I think the idea for you would be to stop buying the books. Oh! There's a novel *snicker* idea!

I agree 100%. It's very frustrating to have read one book and then picked up another in the series and find it to be poorly written.
