For some reason, the Sergeant has molecular bonding studs on both his shoulders. I have no idea why.

Somehow, this is the first Heavy Bolter I've done!

I got the decal to work just fine. That skill at least has been brought up to snuff pretty quickly.

Once I finish the other three guys, I'll be down to my Chapter Master, two Honour Guard and a Predator to finish everything I have on the Fists side of things. I've still got a couple of Grey Knights and Hector Rex to do as well, but this will be a nice chapter to close. I do need to add a flyer or two and some anti-air of some kind though. Bleh.

For the first time in a long time, I made a goal for painting!

Some finished Devastators!

I even got back into the swing of doing round decals on round surfaces (the bane of an Imperial Fists player!) very quickly.

And they're all part of Devastator Squad I. These were a lot easier to apply, obviously. The slight reflection from the light makes it look like one goes over the pad trim, but that's just a trick of the light.

I even dusted off and based this guy. I was given him to paint in one of the black boxes a few years ago, but moved and lost him before I could give him back. They don't give me black boxes any more.

Now, it's off to finish assembling my Knight and buy some airbrush paints!

Some progress!

I wanted a lighter metal than the rest of the army to set it apart. I'll be dousing this with a liberal coat or two of black wash though since this is SLIGHTLY too shiny.

I'm leaning towards doing House Hyperion, since I haven't seen anyone else do one yet, and we don't know much about them.

I was also inspired by this AMAZING model of a pilot by Stockholm Warpaint.

I'll probably start with this extra level of detail and built out from there since no one that I can find has updated Hyperion's sparse old-school colour scheme applied to the new, more detailed and segmented Knights. Open to suggestions. Also going to be photoshopping up their House Crest.

I broke out the airbrush tonight and had some fun re-imagining the old Epic-scale paint scheme on the new Knight.

Apologies for the terrible quality. Sigh.

I'm not 100% amazing by how it's turning out, but this is my first real serious push at airbrushing anything other than base coats. I was a doofus and did the white FIRST instead of doing the red and working my way in. Lesson learned I suppose (again).

Thanks guys!

I'm kind of legendary for being a slow painter, and I'm okay with that. This week has been chock full of me playing the Destiny beta...

I did finish the carapace (I think). I still need to add the three crescent moons, but those will be decals and done last before being matte-varnished to tie it all together. Honestly I'm most chuffed about the depth of the metal. If you'd have told me I'd be painting, shading, drybrushing and highlighting metal even six months ago I'd have told you you were crazy.

I finished the carapace, sans decals last night. Highlights, rivets, eagle and all.

I've started work on the legs, giving them another Nuln Oil wash and adding some bronze/gold bits to try and break up the vast expanse of metal.

BEHOLD!

HOUSE HYPERION WALKS! WITHOUT ARMS!

This is what I consider "done" for now. I'll likely be adding details and colours to the piping on the torso and legs as I get bored with the leg armour and arms, but I'm growing very, very pleased with how this guy is shaping up. I've even found a place that will print full colour and white decals, which I still can't seem to do without gross error.

This guy is a BEAST to get a full picture of, and I had to use my phone for the moment. Can't wait to get started on the power fist as well.

Thanks!

So I'm coming up on completing the legs and kind of looked and went "I have no idea what to do with the base!"

Suggestions are welcome. I'd like something decently unique and cool, but slim and low that won't obscure the tabard.

Not much to report on the modeling front this week. Work was super busy and my high school reunion was this weekend.

I did manage to get the Hyperion small, simple crest done though. It's a modified version of the House Hawkshroud one, with a lot of tracing and re-colouring done on my part. Is it perfect? No, but I'm happy with it for something going on the model itself.

This will go on the tabard and the shield, once I've had it decal-printed. Finding a place that prints full colour and white decals though is... Yeah. Not fun.

I took a personal day off work today for varying reasons. I was rather productive in my efforts to distract myself with other things though.

22716628635_a0cd415acf_z.jpg

The white strip-y bits are actually white cogs and a black cog-ring to show some more mechanicus love. I did make the conscious decision to have a gold/brass interior to the overall gun, which I think adds some real depth to what is essentially a giant bit of metal. I'm very pleased with how it turned out, even if the highlights on the black aren't perfect. I'll probably do some touch up before I glue it all down into the pose I want.

I also applied some decals to the right leg, which I think stand out in contrast to the black and red nicely.

22528700100_9697c75588_z.jpg

I am a bit annoyed with how spindly the arm is. Even with the chainsword, it's just kind of... There. Makes me wish they'd included an extra bit of armour or something. It just feels a bit off and his sides feel quite vulnerable compared to the armoured forward-facing bit.

I'm also not entirely sold on the tabard at the moment. I was starting to like how he looked without it and it does seem a bit LOW (though that's easily fixed). Thoughts?

Overall, I'm super pleased. Maybe I'll do a Knight Paladin one day. This has been a heck of a project for me to get me SERIOUSLY back into painting more regularly and I can finally see the light at the end of the tunnel.

Hey guys! Just a brief update to explain the slowness!

I'm going to add some detail to the power fist (rivets, crosses) before I paint it, but I'm also working hard on a photoshop 300dpi decal sheet to cover House Hyperion, including the stripes (except the big carapace one), moons, crests and a bunch of other small details I plan on adding. If anyone would like, I'll put it out there for the world. Just gauging interest on whether I should have any extras printed from the get-go ($30 per A4 sheet isn't cheap!)

If you can spare some, I'd love to have some of those decals :)

As for your Knight, it's turning into a real beauty. I love the colour scheme and will probably use it when I get my Knight.
