Building a better Thunder Armour

So I'm building and painting my Mentor Legion and was thinking of having other marks of armour in there. The older marks looked interesting but harly fitted with the mentors pro-active approach to new technology. This being the case I thought I'd look into just building some Mk.1 thunder armoured marines in a squad, sometiumes moddeling is just fun.

I've been looking at the old minis and pictures of the thunder armour and am wondering what would be the best way of building the basic structure of said marnines from the plastic kits currently available to us from GW. Going from this picture;

I'll work from the helmet down...

Helm - I'd say would be easilly converted from a Cadian head with sunglasses and a highelf topknot

Backpacck - using the regular marin backpack just cutting and reshaping the vents so that they point out sideways

Torso - Not sure but possibly going for the khornate bezerker torsos with the circuklar belly plate

Shoulders - Using either the ridged armour from the command squad or cutting shaving down the regular pads

Arms - Standard Chaos Marine arms with spikes trimmed off

Legs - standard mk.6 legs with bevels put into the tops of the knees

obviously after all of this it'll also need greestuff for detail but as a basis what do people think??

Well, I think the question is "do you WANT to make Thunder Armor?" after all, the stuff was TERRIBLE. It only provided about as much protection as current carapace armor, it was crazy heavy, and it had no life support whatsoever...

Plus, I think I read somewhere that most of the Thunder Armor suits have since been destroyed...

But if you really want to make a suit of Thunder Armor, and you have all the bits, I think it'd be a pretty awsome looking conversion! Don't forget to post some pics.

Why? because I can I guess...:P

Really like the feel of the old armour marks and there never seem to be enough of them about them. Looking to build them because they'll look cool - although with the great crusade in may...

cheers for the linkage - those are pretty cool - not 100% sold on the chainmaille between the leggings but will have aa look into it further
